All the comforts of a hotel plus the ambiance and facilities of a hostel - twin, double and dorm rooms are available plus a wonderful sunny lounge, overlooking the main street. Pitlochry Backpackers is an old Victorian hotel, bursting with character. We offer a range of rooms - dormitory (4-8 beds), twins and double rooms (our twin & double rooms are all en-suite). It's such a relaxing place to stay and unwind, with its big cosy lounge that boasts a free pool table, comfy sofas, free tea, coffee & hot chocolate, free WiFi, musical instruments, games, book swap and loads of info on the local area. We also have a separate movie lounge with comfy sofas & cushions and a wide range of movies for our guests to watch. Our comfy beds come complete with bedding so there is no need to worry about carrying a sleeping bag and our self catering kitchen has everything you will need to prepare your favourite dinner. It's a great place to meet like minded people and although you might think you're only staying one night, you'll end up staying three or four - it's that kind of place!Best of all it's literally a stroll away from the beautiful highland countryside. In just 5 minutes you can be at a tranquil lochside with views through the trees to the hills above this pretty highland town. There are many wonderful walks to take; to waterfalls, along rivers, through ancient forests, or up Ben Vrackie (2760 feet, the hill above the town) - these walks all start from our hostel door! The area is also dotted with distilleries, castles and ancient standing stones all within easy reach. Perthshire is also a big centre for adventure activities, including white-water rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, mountain biking, canoeing etc if you're up for it - or simply get your boots on and get exploring - there are some fantastic trails. The Pitlochry staff are a friendly bunch who know the surrounding area like the backs of their hands and are willing to help so don't be shy! Come and have a chat at reception and we can make sure you make the most of your time in Pitlochry.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for a night at time of Pitlochry games. The hostel was full so I have to sleep in a shared dorm with 5 strangers. The place was clean and well run. Derek at the desk made us feel welcome and was v helpful. Breakfast for £3.50 is unbeatable value. I would stay here again.

Having been here a few times before and loved it, we decided to return with our daughter. Each time we return is better than the last, the staff are just perfect and super friendly. The rooms are so clean and the bedding smells incredible. We used the kitchen to cook and it had everything you could possibly need. Enjoyed the common room with pool table, jigsaws and games which everyone joins in. There is plenty of bars, restaurants and things to do right on the doorstep, really caters for everyone. Thank you to you all for a brilliant birthday weekend for little Charleigh (she loves her present) x

We stayed for one night, at £70 a double en-suite room I was disappointed. Arrived around 4pm given keys and went to room to find it not cleaned or made up and just as the last people had left it. The reception did get it cleaned but that took another 30 mins to resolve, they did apologise and were pleasant but shouldn't happen they should be checking these things. The room itself was passable, bathroom was tired loose fittings. Shower water pressure very poor tickling. Location is good - maybe price a bit steep for what it is. You can pick up a good B&B around this price point. Might return but feel £50-60 would be enough for this room and place.

Absolutely spot. I've never stayed in a hostel before and was a bit apprehensive but I could not have been more wrong. We had a double room with en suite and it was lovely. The bed was comfy, the shower was fab and I could not have asked for more. The owners were so friendly and chatty and wanted to help all the time. We had breakfast in the morning and it was only £3.50 each! Absolute bargain. Would highly recommend this little gem if you're ever up near Pitlochry.

Such good value, and I got a room and en-suite all to myself! We came for a cycling event, and the staff were so helpful. Free tea, coffee and hot chocolate 24/7 in the communal kitchen, breakfast was put out at 4am as the ride started at 6.30. The start of the ride was about 50 yards from the hotel. Bikes were kept in a locked shed overnight. Was expecting the place to be a bit noisy but it wasn’t at all, got enough sleep. Would definitely come here again. Great base for a weekend away.

Amazing service from Jeanie (I hope I spelt your name right because you made my trip so relaxed), perfectly situated for evening walks and going for little adventures in the wild. Solved any of my issues I had whilst staying there. Communal lounge was great for chatting to other travellers and just relaxing after hiking. Highly recommend. There is also a cute wee three legged cat called Rocky who lives next door who hobbles around the car park looking for pets.

As a family we shared a 6 dorm and it was perfect. We had our own bathroom which was not expected & very much appreciated. The rooms were very clean and beds comfortable. Kids had a great night sharing room as a family. Would highly recommend. Ruthie & the team were so warm and hospitable. Good to know about these gems for future trips. Many thanks for a lovely night!

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights in pitlochry at the Backpackers hotel. We were greeted by a lovely, friendly Ruthy who warmly welcomed us to Pitlochry. She gave us many great suggestions and introduced us to the map they have on the wall which has all the walking spots, view points and places to go. Our room was lovely and we were given an en-suite, the room was quiet (not that we were bothered by the opposite), hostels are just a place to sleep while we adventure. There is a cool lounge where people can chill to read, drinks cups of tea and play pool. Which we did and was a lovely activity for the night. We would defo recommend and we will stay again at any of their hostels. Thank you again!
