Prices are average for the area but I do expect something more special for the money paid. We had just walked Ben Vrackie so were ready for some refreshments it was a nice evening but we were pipped to the post for an outside table although there are plenty of them however the waiter invited us into the bar with our dog. There have clearly installed screens and there did feel plenty of room between tables and staff wore face masks. The bar soon filled up and we ordered at the table, having given our personal details for track and trace. Drinks choice was great. Menu was standard pub food. My husband and son ordered fish and chips & burger which they loved and I had pie, which was nice, if anything it could have been a bit hotter. We probably would have come back for the eat out to help out deal but we had tried the Athol arms with a similar menu, so didn’t come back but we preferred this venue out of the two. Shout out to the staff though for friendly helpful efficient service when the hotel was clearly busy.

Good Afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad you enjoyed both our pubs at The Moulin Inn and Atholl Arms. There has been a number of changes made due to complying with the new covid rules but I'm glad you felt these were well implemented. Hopefully we can welcome you back soon.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights B & B and was excellent value for money. They are coping well with covid restrictions. We thoroughly enjoyed the cosy old style Inn and would not like to see it changed. We stayed in a lovely room with view out onto an old style former church and a grass seating area where I was fortunate to see a red squirrel.

Staff are so friendly and nothing is a bother.

Breakfast excellent and really good pub style lunch and evening meals.

Weather was good to us and we're able to sit out in the beer garden which is at the front of the hotel. The bar inside is very nice.

We liked the location as it is away from the main street up a hill but easy to walk and varying routes to take back down to the main street.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel. It was noticeable that many people made deliberate trips to have a meal/drinks here.

Definitely one to return to.

All the staff are very friendly and helpful, they try their best to for fill any guests special needs or requirements. The pub offers a very good choice of food and drink. I had the patty to start with, which is a generous portion and very tasty. Then for a main course, I had the stake pie with veg and mashed potatoes. It was very tasty. I finished off with ice cream and toffee sauce, very tasty. I sat out in the beer garden which had background music playing and had a friendly feel to it. All the serving staff wear face masks at all times. I especially liked the way the staff had decorated the front of the building with very nice flowers. I would highly recommend trying the Moulin Inn for either a drink or a meal.
It’s great to know that with all the COVID-19 restrictions and being closed for the duration of the virus lockdown, the staff and the food is just as good as it was before lockdown.

I should caveat this review with the Covid restrictions in mind. Not easy to offer the best service. With a heavy heart i say The Moulin Hotel is not good enough. I can only imagine what Gordon Ramsay would say. I want Pitlochry to be the best holiday destination in Scotland. It’s also the heart of Scotland’s abundant food larder. But the hotels in Pitlochry other than the Fonab are in my experience all utterly living in the past. This hotel couldn’t be in a better setting in the Heart of Scotland . Why then do I rate it poorly. It starts quality of reception, moves into quality of bedroom accomodation and finishes with quality of food. Even for a three star hotel none of these are good enough. To be fair the managers and staff are trying their best but this could be so much better. Take the Welcome at reception seriously . Refurbish all the bedroom accomodation, ditch the squeaky beds and sort the acoustic separation, squeaky floors with a complete modernisation. Ditch the tartan and flock wallpaper and prepare freshly cooked Scottish food as they do at so many better hotels. Visit Gleneagles or the Fonab for an example of a great breakfast. Visit the Old Mill for great food.
Sorry. Please aim higher and better.

Hello there, Firstly having read your review I believe you very much so choose the wrong hotel for your required standards. I'm unsure how you can possibly compare a 3* 1695 Coaching Inn/Pub to Fonab and Gleneagles, both five star establishments. There is a reason you would pay £110 for a night with us in comparison to £300-500 a night at Fonab and Gleneagles minimum. I can say on behalf of ourselves and the majority of other hotels in Pitlochry that we focus on good traditional Scottish hospitality which is what the majority of our customers are looking for, no frills attached. For those looking for a more luxury vacation they do indeed book into Fonab. Also being a family owned and run hotel there simply is not the money to do a "complete refurbishment" which would take away from the traditional character and many original features of our Inn which is what brings thousands of people a year into our premises. You may have noticed that our reception, dining room and public areas have in fact just undergone a refurbishment whilst keeping the hotels character and these were progressing throughout the upstairs of the hotel when lockdown begun and obviously now we have to get back on our feet before we continue these. On speaking to our manager on duty when you checked out you stated everything was fine apart from the restrictions being more strict than when you initially booked, unfortunately this is the Scottish Governments control and not ours. Regarding your food choices which I believe was Macaroni Cheese served with Chips and a Wild Game Curry perhaps if you were looking for a more upmarket dining experience you could've chosen something else from our extensive menu. Thank you so much for your negativity in these hard times and I hope next time you do pay £300+ for your hotel to meet your standards rather than criticising a small Inn which never advertises to be anything different to what it is and certainly not 5* but with staff who do provide 5* friendly service who go out of their way to look after our customers, many of whom come back time and time again.

Having found out about the Moulin hotel in ‘Scotland the Best’ we were very much looking forward to our one night stay as were yet to be disappointed by Peter Irvine’s reviews. Hotel itself is picturesque and is in a good location, room we stayed in was dated but not short of character. After we checked in we were told to find a seat in the garden and someone would be over to take a drinks order - we did have a 10 minute wait which although being a bit slow wasn’t the end of the world as it’s a pleasant beer garden.

The food unfortunately was substandard considering the prices they’re charging. I originally booked a standard room for a set tariff and having subsequently seen they offered a dinner, B&B deal I got in touch with them to change the booking for include dinner for an additional amount. After a fairly awful breakfast (cold toast, bizarre tiny prices of smoked salmon, horrid scrambled eggs, alarmingly alike the powdered scrambled eggs you come across) we went to check out. For dinner the night before we had each a two course meal and realised it had come to less than the amount they were charging for dinner bed and breakfast. I didn’t think this would be an issue - we were happy to pay for the room on our original booking and for the food we’d eaten so I brought it up with the lady on reception. I was then told it wasn’t her fault we’d chosen not to eat dessert so therefore we would be charged the greater price simply because we’d booked dinner, bed and breakfast. This was then further attempted to be justified by saying we’d been upgraded to a superior room (unknown to us as we’d booked a standard). This was a further kick in the teeth as the room we’d been given was directly above the kitchen and we were woken up in the early hours of the morning by their incredibly loud extractor fans and couldn’t get back to sleep.

Fundamentally a poor to average stay turned into an outright negative experience with poor food and service. Won’t be back.

Hello there , Thank you for your review and coming to visit us, although I am disappointed to read about this! On booking there is the option to book either Bed and Breakfast or Dinner, Bed and Breakfast option and since re-opening after lockdown we have been running with the same menu in both our bar and restaurant so our staff are explaining to guests this on booking and many are choosing the B&B option as they do not wish to have three courses so the majority of our guests are choosing B&B due to this after being explained the options. Yes your room is located above the kitchen due to the layout of the old hotel building however the kitchen is not in use from 9:30pm-8am and I'm sorry you did not feel this large four poster room was one of our superior rooms. Reading your review I believe the quality of your dinner was good as this hasn't been commented on however, I can assure you that all of our breakfasts are cooked to order and I'm not even sure what powdered eggs are but I can guarantee all of our food produce is from quality sources, local where possible. But I am sorry that you felt you did not receive the quality of food which our guests and recent reviewers have experienced.

We stayed a week early September and enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Covid rules were followed and we were made to feel safe at all times. We decided to stay at the hotel for evening meals for that reason and due to the fact that elsewhere offered a similar menu and similar prices. It was worth it as the food was very good. Good full breakfast on offer, although it was quite a task for the staff to serve everybody their personal requirements, this was managed efficiently.
Overall, yes it is an old hotel, there were creaky floorboards and some areas that needed a tweak, but the staff were great and tried hard to please, smiling behind their masks-we would go back

We just stayed in the Moulin's MacPherson's Cottage for 4 nights and were really pleasantly surprised by how roomy and comfortable it was. We're a family of 5 and there was masses of space for us, we didn't feel on top of each other as is often the way in self catering accommodation. The cottage has just been refurbished and looks great, the kitchen facilities are excellent (big range cooker, plenty of dishes and pans) and there's a separate dining room. Two bathrooms, both really nicely decorated and super clean, loads of towels, soaps, everything you could need really! There's a lovely wee garden out the back and you are literally stumbling distance from the pub in the Moulin Hotel. It was the first time we had been away since lockdown had been lifted, and we were really reassured by the measures the hotel had taken in the cottage and in the pub - lots of space, very clean, hand sanitiser available and all the staff in masks and super friendly. They've done a great job and we'll be back soon. Also, so many things to do around Pitlochry! We went rock climbing, we went rafting, we went walking, we saw eagles - really, terrific.

We have just spent a most enjoyable 2 day break at this lovely Hotel just out Pitlochry, our visit was both business and leisure as I was conducting a wedding ceremony at another venue in Pitlochry. We were greeted with a most warm and genuine welcome by the lady at reception given our room Key (7) which suited our needs perfectly, we enjoyed a lovely bar meal in the (Moulin Inn bar) and the food was simply delicious, breakfast on both mornings was served perfectly with plenty of coffee provided. With special thanks to the great staff for making us so welcome. To other trip advisor reviewers please take a little time to consider what these hard working individuals have to deal with in regards to the situation that we all find ourselves in just now, people are most certainly not rude or show bad manners they are just trying to make sure that one they manage to keep their customers safe and deal with all the ongoing rules which changes on a daily basis.

Whilst the hotel looks lovely and the bar is traditional and cosy etc. I think the meal I had was possibly the worst value for money I've had anywhere. There was no customer service to add to the poor experience. I had been looking forward to coming here for a while, the pub looked characterful and cosy and the menu enticing. On arrival the specials on the chalk board sounded amazing and all the pub accolades from years gone by gave me confidence that this was going to be excellent. It was so hard to pick from what I assumed was a great choice of fresh home cooked fayre. The reality was very different though. For starters we had the worst mussels I've encountered in Scotland and we paid £9 for 3 overcooked small scallops. Neither were fresh ingredients. My main was a very greasy fish, (again not fresh just mush inside), overcooked frozen chips, tartar sauce from a tub, processed mushy peas (complete with skin after being microwaved). I should have gone to a chip shop for a far superior meal! The other main was an Angus steak burger apparently, large bun, small burger, nothing special, same frozen chips. McDonald's Angus burger easily trumps it. For that array of what I can only assume was all pre-packed or frozen food we paid almost £50 and that was with no service. Not once were we asked if everything was OK or if we wanted drinks. To add injury to insult I didn't feel great for the rest of the evening and the next day. In short, whilst its fine for a pint by thefire after a hill walk or something I'd highly recommend saving your money and your tummy and dining elsewhere.

Good Afternoon. Thank you for taking the time to write us a review, I'm really sorry you did not enjoy your experience at The Moulin Inn on your latest visit. From what you've described to us this is way below the standard of service and food that we like to provide at The Moulin. All of our meals are cooked fresh and to order and I can guarantee you our fish and meats are all fresh produce delivered Friday morning before our usual busy weekends. I can only apologise for your meal and I'm disappointed this wasn't brought to the attention of either our bar staff or manager so we had a chance to rectify this whilst you were in the Inn. No one is aware of your dissatisfaction and we did not receive any other complaints. As for the service I shall bring this up with my bar staff as it is very unusual for them not to be more communicative with our customers. I do have to say that your assumptions are wrong and unfair regarding our food products being pre-packed and frozen and I hope others realise this. Once again I do apologise that you felt your experience at the Moulin Inn was sub-standard but I do hope you would visit us once again so we can prove that your recent experience is not one to be expected at The Moulin Inn.I would appreciate it if you could give us an email directly to enquiries@moulinhotel.co.uk so we can shine further light on your experience here and try and rectify this for you. Kind Regards, Clara

We stopped here for lunch having gone out of our way because of previous visits. However, on this occasion the service was terrible and the food average. The staff were abrupt and unfriendly. We both ordered the trio of salmon and when we requested bread the waitress questioned the order as if we had asked for something unusual. When the bread arrived, it was two slices of white bread which should only be used for the morning toast. I would have thought the kitchen staff should have been aware that this was not suitable. When we asked for, at least crusty bread we were given three small slices for which we were charged £3:95. All very disappointing as I have eaten in the Moulin on many occasions and this was the worst experience ever, I will not be back.
