The Savoy Park Hotel, cherished for its traditional Scottish ambiance and homey feel, has garnered appreciation from guests who find comfort in its character, although a few note the decor could use refreshing. Attentive service is a highlight, despite occasional lapses.
While some guests believe the value is proportionate to the inviting rooms and reasonable dining prices, others feel improvements could be made. The hotel's cleanliness and prime location near the town center and beach are consistently praised, making it a favorable spot for picturesque walks.

This hotel is lovely and comfortable and welcoming in all public areas and the food produced by the Chef is of a very high standard and excellent value for money. I needed a quiet convenient base following eye surgery and the Savoy Park proved the perfect choice. I booked a twin room which I was immediately warned on booking was up two flights of stairs, the second one quite steep. There is no lift but we don’t have mobility issues and managed with no problem. The room was “Cosy” as advertised but had everything we needed, really clean and comfortable beds and bedding, toiletries and hospitality tray. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay and would happily return. Access to green space beside the sea 5 minutes walk away and a short stroll to the town centre, dog friendly, great staff - what more do you need?

Emergency accommodation after Storm Eowyn left us without light or heat for several days but our stay at the Savoy was the silver lining to a very dark cloud. The staff went out of their way to be more than helpful with any request so much so that it began to feel like home after only a couple of days . We had our dog with us and she even had her own water bowl place setting beside our table for breakfast. The food was lovely and varied and I'd say very reasonably priced for the standard and first class presentation . We stayed in the Clarinda room which was very comfortable with views over the garden and a huge en-suite bathroom. All in all I'd recommend this boutique but very traditional hotel to anyone visiting Ayr

The Savoy Park hotel is ideally located a short walk to the seafront and to the town centre. It has ample private parking and is a grand looking building. Check in was quick, friendly and efficient. We had two visits in the space of a fortnight so I will merge them into this single review.
On our first trip our “cosy” double room (no 12) was on the second floor and was a larger than I anticipated, and has a huge en-suite bathroom. The plumbing is admittedly ancient with only a hand held spray unit to use over the bath. On the first morning this proved to be totally useless with water simply gushing out of the unit coupling which meant that we could neither shower nor fill the bath. I managed to hand tighten the collar which meant that we could get water out the tap again, but the shower head was useless. Having reported the fault to reception, a repair was made which made the unit less messy but it was still completely useless as a shower head, which meant having to wash our hair in the sink.
On the second visit I opted for a character double room, which are the largest and most expensive. We had room 11 which is very large and a vast improvement on our previous “cosy” room. This one has a full size settee, a couple of chairs, coffee table and desk as well as a large bed and a huge old wardrobe. At £125 (non-refundable rate) I consider it to be very good value and I reckon that if we come back here we will choose this class of room.
Breakfast is served in a beautiful, wood panelled room that is the lovely sort of room I associate with Scottish country house hotels. The breakfast service on both visits was nicely casual and attentive and the starters of fruit juice and Greek yogurt with fruit compote very good.
During our visits we both sampled the Full Scottish breakfast which consisted of bacon, sausages, mushroom, tattie scone, black pudding, haggis and beans. It was good and the haggis was deliciously peppery. As you might guess from the list of ingredients however, it was a very substantial plateful and we were a bit more selective on other mornings. Generally, we enjoyed our breakfasts here and my only small criticism is that despite consistently asking for soft fried eggs, they were always a tad on the solid side.
The bottom line is that this is a fine, traditional Scottish hotel run by very nice people. With ample parking, central location and splendid decor it ticks all the boxes for us and is certainly our hotel of choice in Ayr.

Hotel was a beautiful older building. Wonderfully decorated with what looked like antiques everywhere. Beautiful view from our top floor room. Caution if you are older like me as the stairs are hard to climb, 44 to top floor. Fortunately two staff members helped my wife and myself with our suitcases. After that we were on our own. Room was beautiful but bathroom was a little awkward as you had to go up a step then carefully down to a slanted ceiling. Service at times was not there. We asked for an ironing board and iron to be sent up to our room at 8am when we went down for breakfast. At 9am I asked for those items again and was told they were on their way. At 11am I went downstairs looking for the iron and table myself, found it in a closet on the second floor and brought them up to our room. When I went to the front desk to tell them I was told that the hotel was short staffed. Not my problem as I paid for service not excuses. The breakfast was excellent, full Scottish breakfast, served hot. Overall great hotel that is why I gave it a 5 score.

At my Retirement Party and fundraiser for SCAA, Lauren and all the Staff made it an evening to remember. Fabulous food, (everyone loved it) accommodating dietary requirements and special requests. The dining room looked magical, the attention to detail and sheer hard work behind the scenes definitely made the whole thing stress free. We stayed the night too, and were made to feel very special indeed. I would definitely recommend Savoy apart family run Hotel. Fabulous!

I bought tickets for me and my two daughters a few months back for the Elvis tribute show that was postponed because of the storm. Rearranged for 7/3/25 and one of my daughters phoned the hotel a few days before as she had broken her ankle and wanted to enquire about accessibility. She was greeted by a very rude person who actually turned out to be the manager and was most unhelpful. My daughter decided not to attend as she was worried about where she’d be sitting and if it would be easy enough for her to get to the toilet etc. I actually listened to the phone call and can honestly say that the customer service was zero. Me and my other daughter attended as I’d paid over £100 for the tickets. The meal was lovely and the show was first class until the manager decided that the guy wasn’t singing fast songs all the time and the dance floor wasn’t as full as she wanted. I’ve never seen anything like it as she was shouting at him from the audience. Didn’t turn out well for her as the audience were all quite vocal about taking the singers side and also saying what a rude person she was. I had a word with her before I left and told her just what a rude person she was. She lied to my face about what was said in the phone call between her and my daughter. My daughter got married there in 2016 and the staff then couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. It’s a pity as it’s a lovely hotel just wish some of the staff were too.

On a recent trip to Ayr we chose to stay at The Savoy Park Hotel, room rates were reasonable, there is a small residents bar next to the dinning room, breakfast is very good with lots to choose from, we also had a meal in the restaurant on one of the evenings, the chef they have is really good, we enjoyed his food, special mention to the young lad who waited on our table, so nice to see a very well mannered young man who has a good knowledge of the hotel and surrounding areas. The building is very old, and has a few quirks, such as needing to run hot water for a bit before entering the shower, but this is to be expected. You may feel that the internals of the hotel dinning rooms, bedrooms etc. are a bit dated, but really this adds to the character of the hotel. All in all a very nice stay, and I would recommend it.

Finding myself at a loose end in Ayr for 3 nights I opted for this traditional hotel. The character of the hotel was just what I had hoped for. On arrival I was greeted warmly by reception staff and after a quick check in was directed without delay to my room. The stair way on the way up needed a jolly good hoover so I was a bit concerned before I got to my room. I had opted for a cosy double and, as it said on the tin, it was cosy. However, it was well furnished with ample space for clothes etc and with a new very efficient shower. I think it would have been a tight fit for 2 people though. In terms of cleanliness, I think a little bit more care could have been taken. I did have very, very dusty skirtings, cobwebs on the walls and dusty lights and lamps. The bedding and bathroom facilities were immaculate though. Just a little bit more care on the less obvious bits wouldn't have gone amiss. Dining alone in a hotel can often be an uncomfortable experience but not at this hotel. I was allocated a small table in a very large inglenook area of a large oak panelled room which was perfect. The staff were so very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was very good. Fresh orange juice (no packet stuff) was great. Dinner in the evening had a menu with something for everyone to choose from and the food was delicious. Proper home cooking and great fish and chips. It poured with rain everyday during my stay so I did not get anytime to stroll round the garden which was a shame. Although at this time the hotel felt very welcoming. The staff were all very cheerful and helpful. They all seemed very invested in the well being of the hotel and its guests. I do not usually leave reviews but in this case I think the hotel is deserved of one. It is very difficult at the moment for the hospitality business, especially for the more traditional family run hotels. Yes, it has its shortcomings but what it does have is excellent customer service and soul. If you are looking for a traditional hotel in Ayr then this is the one to go for.

Only a two night break. The building itself looks very nice from the outside and to the inside a nice cosy bar area. Drinks at the bar were quite expensive and choice wasn’t brilliant. Breakfast was below average having full English with nearly raw fried eggs. We stayed in a cosy double room which was clean and nice and a good shower. We had a nice garden view too. There are interconnected doors to the next room which I wasn’t keen with as privacy was non existent. We could hear telephone conversations and coughing and sneezing whilst we were trying to sleep. I’d only recommend this hotel for a short stay and for a basic room with no frills. I give 3 stars but was close to giving only 2.

Only a 15+ minutes easy WALK from Ayr train station with your luggage. [and far less if you feel that you need to use use a Black Cab/taxi ]
As regards the "Ocean" [ ie the Firth of Clyde ] it is very close and certainly no more than 500 metres walk.
We in Scotland call our long tidal water inlets "Firths" that is derived from the Skandinavian for "Fjord"

Sorry I didn't see your question but yes, I think it would be good for Christmas, cosy bar area would be perfect for before and after Christmas Dinner tipples.
There are more places to choose from in the Ayr area.
