Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A wonderful stay, at short notice during family emergency Tracey stepped up and was beyond kind and helpful. Welcoming and warm, fabulous breakfasts, restaurant evening meal was really good, cosy lounge with a gas fire that I wish we had at home! The setting is superb, one stormy evening and next morning dawned crisp and clear, walked with dog on the beach. Their dog-attitude is fabulous, he got sausages for breakfast too. I could not recommend highly enough, the staff were uniformly friendly and helpful.

Lovely wee overnight away from Halloween madness! Room was lovely with nice warm radiator as it was so cold. Booked for donner which is a feat in itself as I suffer from anaphylaxis to Palm oil,Pal Fat and Palm Kernel oil. I was assured at reception they would let the chef know. When we were ordering dinner I asked what I could have that was safe and the chef had already done his homework and told me choices of what I could eat safely...what can I say about food??SUBLIME!! Amazing to be able to eat safely knowing I'm not going to be in back of an ambulance in 10 mins!! This man is an incredible chef and I'll be forever grateful to him for adding that extra touch! Back next Yr so see u then Horizon Hotel

We were a family group of 5 people and our family dog. Celebrating my 70th Birthday. Young family had travelled from England and Ireland to Scotland to celebrate their mothers/aunts 70th birthday. After dinner, As I was taking this photo of my family around 8.30pm a night porter was vacuuming the window area behind my head. Not what you expect to witness while having a "relaxing" drink in the hotel lounge area. It was so difficult for us to have a conversation as we could hardly hear each other. The general manager passed through the lounge area many times while the vacuuming was taking place and obviously thought the actions of the night porter was acceptable.Eventually, my son asked him to stop vacuuming. According to the general managers comments, in my sons review, he asked the porter to stop vacuuming as it was disturbing our dog. The dog was infact sleeping at this time. He is not annoyed by the noise of vacuuming. It was annoying us. When sitting in the hotel lounge you do not expect to witness vacuuming at any time of the evening. As a family, we spent a lot of money in the hotel as we chose to buy all food and drinks from their bar and restuarant and consume them in their public areas. We did not retire to our rooms to party and have drinks not bought in the hotel. Management Customer focus is definitely lacking

Currently sitting in the lounge of this hotel for a 70th birthday celebration and being vacuumed around by cleaning staff. Ridiculous! I willl write a fuller review with photos and video of the various issues in due course, clearly no idea about customer focus or service.

Dear Chris I am sorry to see this on trip advisor. I understood that our Night Porter had started hoovering the back end of the lounge but had not realised he came near the front until he came through and told me you asked him to stop due to the dog. I know he immediately stopped hoovering and the other issues and videos did you speak to any one about as i see you had been in room 35. Thank you

Arriving at Horizon Hotel, the first thing I noticed were the car parks and alleyways surrounding the hotel which were not very attractive. Granted, we could see the sea and were across the road from the beach. The staff were very welcoming and the food was delicious. I was very disappointed by the state of the room, windowframes going rotten, the mirror light not working in the bathroom, and then of course, the lack of view. We were blocked in by a wall of the restaurant so I had to lean out of the window to get a glimpse of the sea. The breakfast was amazing and we ate everything in sight! My little girl loved it. I was disappointed that I had to pay a full £220 for two nights in a small twin room, with no view, and VERY noisy at night with people coming and going and slamming doors, very annoying when I have just got my four year old to sleep! It's a shame because it's a good location, just these tweaks would make it a nicer stay. Or make these rooms cheaper and people wouldn't mind.

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. I am sorry to see you found it noisy we do have polite notices up asking guest to be quiet between 10pm until 7am but some people do not take note. we would advice to call the hotel directly that way we can look at the room we have available instead of agency bookings allocating you a room. I will pass on your nice comments to the chefs and staff of the hotel. thank you

Unfortunately the bathroom wasn't as clean as it should have been the sink and wall had toothpaste on it from previous visitors. Parts of the bedding was frayed at edges causing threads to tangle in. The chair in which was sat in for my evening meal was a bit dirty which I cleaned off infront of the staff as they seated us. One of the meals ordered lasagna came with fries, however a side order of cajun fries was ordered too, when the dish arrived at the table there was simply the cajun fries with the lasagna. Now you may think what's the issue here, but the person was a big eater ordered extra to simply not get it. The charges for the meal remained the same with extra side order charges. I know of people who work restaurants who have advised many places should not be advised if unhappy as may do someone when returning said meal, take from that what you will. Therefore I did not complain. To further this, after deciding to allow these things to pass as simple mistakes, the best one came when our room door was knocked at 12:10am. A night porter was at the door saying we had to keep the noise down there had been a complaint. Now can I say, the TV had been on up until 11-11:30pm which had been comedians on it. The porter accused there was more than two people in the room, to which the other party in my room said that was untrue. The porter then moved to side of the other party looking right in the room to check thankfully I was in the bathroom. This is completely unacceptable behaviour to which I made a complaint the following morning. I paid good money like all other guests, it was a Friday night, the only noise coming from the room after 11:30 pm was talking a laugher. It is ridiculous to expect any couple sharing a room to be quiet for the duration of their stay.

What a fantastic welcome and hotel. Tracey, Zoe on reception, and the rest of the staff were so lovely. I had booked for my husbands birthday and even though we weren’t dining at the hotel they made sure we had a beautiful room with gorgeous views of the beach, as well as facilitating an early check in. Totally unexpected and a lovely surprise. We had the breakfast in the morning and this was outstanding. We had s lovely warm welcome from the staff then too. Overall a fab hotel, great staff, great food and great views. Free parking too. Looking forward to returning and sitting in that beer garden in a cold clear autumnal day. Why wait for a summer that may never come?! Many thanks.

I spent 2 nights here recently. Rooms are dated and you may have to hoof it up the stairs but the service was great (many thanks to Zoe for her help!). I added on breakfast to the room rate and was very pleasantly surprised with the value. Well worth it. If you like beach walks you’re right there.

The worst hotel room I have ever stayed in. Noisy, small, poorly equipped. What was worse though was the reaction of the hotel manager to our disappointment with the room, its terrible location, lack of view, etc. Quite simply she could not care less. I would never, ever recommend this hotel to anyone.

Dear Sir I am unsure who you spoke to but i believe you spoke with zoe at the desk who informed you the hotel was fully booked so there would be no where to move you to which is i know is not ideal but that was the situation on that day, Your room was booked through an agency who will allocate you one of the rooms of your type booked and that could be anywhere in the hotel subject to what rooms we have left.
