We've stayed at the Horizon before but this was our 1st time since covid. We've had a lovely stay. The staff were great, the hotel comfortable as usual and the food delicious. We were very happy with the way the hotel was organised to cope with covid , temperature checked on arrival, sanitizing stations where necessary and replenishing of the room necessities, all were very satisfactory. The room was spotless on arrival and we had a very comfortable, relaxing stay, thank you so much.

Stayed for 2 nights in this hotel and had a fantastic time. It’s the second time we’ve stayed here so knew what to expect in rooms and restaurant but what we weren’t expecting was to be put in an attic room which was fine for me as I’m quite short but my husband struggled as he is taller so if you are tall make sure you ask not to be put in an attic room! We couldn’t fault anything else about the hotel, the food in Vista restaurant was delicious and they have done a great job at making sure diners are socially distanced, this is also the case throughout the hotel. The staff wore masks at all times while serving food/drinks at reception and also housekeeping staff so they are doing everything to make sure their guests and staff are protected at all times! The room was spotless on our arrival with plenty of tea and coffee supplies, the bed was so comfy and you couldn’t hear a thing from outside when the windows were closed. There is a small car park on the hotel grounds but the two times we have been there we have parked in the car park across from the hotel and never had any problems. We really couldn’t fault anything about this hotel and will definitely stay again in future. Thank you Horizon hotel for such a stress free stay!

This was our first visit and I would certainly go back. The room was very clean and comfortable. There had been boiler problems on the day so we didn’t get the room we booked but it was obvious that every effort had been made to try and sort things out. We ended up in a room for the disabled which was absolutely fine by us with exit out to the car park. Anyone specifically needing this kind of facility would be very pleased. The restaurant is also very clean and welcoming and we enjoyed our breakfast in the morning. I realised after booking that dogs were allowed so being allergic I was nervous about residual hair in our room. There was no evidence of dog hair anywhere in the hotel so the cleaning staff obviously do a good job.

Thank you very much for your kind review. You will know that our plumber was still working on the boiler at 19.30 at night, the boiler is only 2 years old and under guarantee. However he did manage to get in going but we thought it prudent to move you rooms just I case he couldn’t get it going Thank you also for appreciating our hard working House Keeping team they work extremely hard to maintain our standards and are appreciated not just by our customers but by the rest of the Horizon team.

Stayed at this hotel for a short mid-week break and never having visited Ayr before we were absolutely delighted with our accommodation choice. Location was superb being right on the promenade but also only a 10 minute walk (15 minute stroll) from the town centre too. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful and explained all the covid-safe measures to us upon arrival plus provided an info sheet too. Room was clean and well equipped, with all usual requirements. We did only eat breakfast in hotel but all food in restaurant was freshly cooked to order and choice was plentiful. Having booked our stay direct with the hotel via their website we had received an extra discount on our room rate making this a really great value deal. All in all an excellent wee hotel. And yes, we shall definitely be going back again!!

I cannot fault this hotel. We stayed in 1 of the attic rooms that I see alot of guests have complained about. It does clearly state at the time of the booking that these rooms have sloping roof and to take care. My partner is 6ft 2ins and this room was NOT an issue at all I think that sometimes people are to quick to complain and find fault.

On arrival we were met by Keri a lovely friendly helpful young girl the same girl served us dinner that evening and breakfast the next morning she seemed to be rushed off her feet but did it all with a smile nothing was a bother for her at all.

She is an asset to The Horizon Hotel so thank you Keri and keep up the good work you will give far in life with your amazing work ethic you were a star.

Hotel was immaculate room was very comfortable food was really good (sat night cocktail menu) all staff we met were friendly and welcoming I have nothing negative to say about this hotel.

Keep up the good work we would absolutely without hesitation stay again.

Dear guest Thank you for a lovely review. Keri is an asset to the hotel and works very hard in the hotel for being such a young age and as her first job she has grown over the years with us in confidence and we value her very much. I am glad you found the hotel immaculate as the housekeeping team work very hard to keep it that way. The Saturday night cocktail menu is a must. Hope to see you again soon

Have just spent a lovely weekend here with my Husband for Valentines, even ended up having to stay an extra night. Staff were all friendly and was great service. Food in the restaurant was great and never any hassle. Rooms were warm and even though Storm Dennis was blowing a gale could not hear anything once we were in our room. would recommend booking through booking.com for great room prices other than hotel its self. Thank you to all the team for a great stay and will be back soon.

Great welcome and staff. Dogs accepted in bedrooms and reception area but no area of bar available for dog owners to dine or drink we had to sit in the reception/ lounge area, the only place for dog owners to partake of refreshments .. very obvious brightly lit table for dinner and drinks. Not special feeling or welcoming.
Our precooked a long time ago sea view room was totally unacceptable as it smelt very pungently of cigarette smoke. Our friends sea view room at end of corridor was spacious and lovely. We ended up on the back of the hotel with a bigger bed but still a cramped room and the smallest toilet shower room ever. No toilet brush. No recompense not even a drink at the bar.
Burnt toast accompanied an okay but not memorial breakfast . Would we go back ? Not without researching every hotel in the area.

Dear Jemps I am very disappointed and upset by your review. Firstly the lounge where dogs and there owners can take their meals has exactly the same lighting system as our restaurant I can only assume that the staff did not dim them to create a nicer ambiance for you. Our HK staff checked the seaview room that you stayed in and could not smell and smoke so we upgraded you to a king size room, out of 25 rooms only 5 have seaviews, I am sorry we did not have another room like your friends. Burnt toast is never served unless a guests askes for it and you can always ask for it to be lightly done.

1 really enjoyed my stay at the Horizon Hotel. It is nicely decorated throughout and feels quite Covid secure with lots of hand sanitiser stations at strategic points. Every member of staff I met wore a face mask and was courteous and very helpful. I had a full Scottish breakfast on my last morning which was good but a bit overpriced. Room was very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, with very close proximity to the beach and town.

A delayed check in was clearly explained as a staffing issue. Room was very clean, tidy and presentable. Staff friendly and helpful.

Evening meal in the restaurant was lovely and catered well for my wife's gluten allergy, however, at breakfast the staff need further training.

The finer points are essential when waiting-on, eg do NOT bring the fried breakfast until the fruit/yoghurt course is finished; I may have wanted a break between the two! But what this really represents is a lack of awareness regarding the guests needs and communication from the waiter to the kitchen staff. Perhaps a Maitra dee is required to oversee proceedings?

When bringing gluten free bread on a basket to the table ensure a serviette is underneath the bread. Encourage the staff to say good morning 'sir/madam'..... start proceedings with a smile!

Small things make a difference.

BUT these are easily fixable issues and on the whole I recommend this Hotel.

Stayed here for few days with friends one of whom is wheelchair bound and has visited previously. (stayed in disabled access room 6) Professionalism of staff fantastic from phone manner, keeping parking space, to assisting storage of electric hoist ensured an enjoyable stay for all. The food was amazing served by restaurant staff who where immaculate, friendly, and very helpful 10/10 meal presentation but most important it was hot. Special mention for Lorraine (Manageress) it's no wonder she's been employed here for 16 years as nothing was too much trouble for her and her team. Looking forward to returning here soon! Ok my only negative..... duvan bed base could be doing with being a little higher (as in Room 5) or different frame in order to accommodate hoist fitting underneath. Don't let that put you off. Overall, if you want the perfect relaxing break, amazing food/service and to be a 'stones throw' from the beach, then the Horizon is a must even if to visit for the day to try the delicious menu in the immaculate bar/restaurant. Hotel has current social distance measures in operation

Hi Alison You are allowed in the rooms, lounge area but not the restaurant or bar area. If you would like to have breakfast or dinner then we can set a table up for you in the lounge area at reception. Kind Regards Tracey

Can I ask have you a ramp to get into your hotel ???
Answer from andrenemesser
Grangemouth, United Kingdom8 contributions4 helpful votes
Yes the ramp is at the entrance in the hotel carpark. The carpark is very small but does have disabled spaces. There is a larger car park literally a dozen steps from the small one. Enjoy your stay. The staff and food is brilliant.

Hi how much extra is it for a sea view room thanks coming for two night stay
Answer from Patricia P
Adelaide, Australia27 contributions14 helpful votes
I actually requested a sea view but was given the smallest room with a pylon in front of the window. No explanation given. It was just for one night so I did not bother making a fuss as I was told the hotel was full. Hideous room, so small we could barely move. Staff were very good and location good. Will never go back and would recommend you have your requests responded to in writing before you pay.
