We went for an overnight stay in this hotel and honestly I cannot fault it! We will be back! We stayed in the main house which was beautiful and spotless! The lady who checked us in (I think her name was Anna) was so friendly and helpful. We had a late night planed at the Dark Sky Observatory, so she gave us the duty managers phone number and left a note for him so that we could get back in quickly after the doors where locked. And sure enough he was waiting near by due to her note. We also had dinner in the hotel, again there was nothing to fault. Zac, the man who looked after us again was amazing. He was so professional, friendly and chatty, we really loved his service! The food was amazing, and very really priced! Honestly the staff and the hotel its self are brilliant! And we where made to feel very safe during this weird covid19 time.

Stayed overnight 15th October. Excellent service from arrival to departure. All Covid rules adhered to. Loved the furniture in courtyard room. Best hotel meal we have had in a long time. The bubblegum blancmange was to die for. Restaurant staff so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was amazing - the fried pancake brought back childhood memories. Will definitely come back.

We booked the Wine, Dine & Stay deal for 2 nights in October 2020 during the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period of Covid-19. We stayed in a Courtyard Room which was really spacious, large bed, good amenities; the bathroom is slightly dated but is perfectly clean and everything works as it should. We thought the deal would include a specific monetary amount per person off our meals but it didn’t - everything was included (except drinks), this made the deal even better value than we initially thought. As we weren’t allowed to drink alcohol in the hotel, they sent us both a small bottle of wine to our room which we thought was a lovely touch and completely unexpected. The restaurant staff were great, very friendly and patient – some of the requests we heard them having to deal with from certain demanding customers were a bit much but they stayed professional. The food was superb - the main courses and especially the desserts were fantastic, breakfast was also excellent; we also enjoyed a walk around the beautiful garden. It would have been nice to try the Wine List ... maybe next time. I’d like to visit again but pay a little extra and stay in the main hotel as the rooms look superb.

When we checked into the Western House Hotel, Scotland’s central belt (which includes Ayr) was in a state of strict lockdown due to an alarming rise in Covid cases. Cafes could remain open but all restaurants and bars had to close with the exception of hotel restaurants which were only allowed to serve residents. While we were having dinner in the hotel restaurant a chef who was not wearing a mask walked through the middle of the restaurant, went up to one of the tables where he shook hands with both of the diners there. One of the diners said, “Are we allowed to shake hands?” but he shook her hand anyway. He stood there, less than 1 meter away from the diners, and chatted for about 15 minutes. I raised the issue with the duty manger who replied that it was OK because the chef was exempt from wearing a mask. He said that the hotel had very strict Covid policies, that all staff followed them rigorously and that this particular incident was just a mistake. Clearly, not all staff followed the rules rigorously because shaking hands has been against the guidelines since March and the chef seemed very casual about what he was doing. In fact, none of the serving staff took any notice of his actions and one of them even served that table while he was chatting. If all staff did rigorously follow the rules I would expect one of them to have said something. This behaviour is dangerous because: someone who is not wearing a mask is more likely to spread the virus weather they are exempt or not. When this person shakes hands and does not social distance they become high risk. When someone so blatantly disregards safety rules in a public area of their place of work, it is reasonable to assume that they also disregard the rules when they are not at work meaning that they are at a high risk of contracting the virus and then bringing it into the workplace. Because of the actions of the chef and the response of the duty manager I do not feel confident that the Western House Hotel is taking Covid seriously. If one of the chefs who is preparing my meal and touching my plate is shaking hands with customers and not respecting social distancing, it makes me worried about how safe my food is. If the hotel managers do not think that this is a serious breach of safety rules, I would not return to this hotel until all Covid restrictions have been lifted. I don’t feel confident that it is safe.

Good Morning louisefazenda, Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review from your recent experience at Western House Hotel and I am disappointed that you found we are not taking Covid seriously. As I said when I spoke to you last Saturday evening we have worked extremely hard over the past few months ensuring we are not only compliant but go over and above with all local authority and national government guidance. I offered to show and explain to you all our Covid Risk Assessment’s, Control Measures and Safety Protocols to which you declined. We certainly do treat the current Covid situation with the utmost importance as it not only poses a serious risk to everybody’s health but also the implication it has had on the hospitality trade and ultimately our livelihoods. As I am sure you have read we have had so many positive reviews - many commenting on how safe they have felt with all the new procedures we have put in place. I am sorry that you did not feel safe whilst staying at Western House Hotel, I certainly hope that I have helped put your mind at ease and you shall return to the hotel in the near future. Kind Regards, Zac Warr

We stayed for one night on Saturday 10th October in one of the courtyard rooms, which was perfect, spotless and very comfortable, with a view of gardens and across to the racetrack. We were warmly welcomed on arrival by very friendly receptionist and checked in to our room. We booked a table for dinner at 7.30pm and the food was exquisite, have to recommend the lamb dish it’s a work of art and delicious, the service was perfect. At breakfast the food and service was excellent too, I thought linen napkins at breakfast was a thing of the past but not at The Western House hotel it’s a touch of class and luxury. We highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be back.
