Nice first house in great central location to all amenities.
Hosts had keys ready when we arrived and saw ourselves to our top floor room.
Room was small but adequate.

In the morning they kindly allowed us to leave our biking gear whilst we went out for an hour.

Lovely owners and lovely doggos.

Would recommended for any short stay!

As quoted, I booked and paid £130 for a 2-night stay in July 2024. The hotel replied to confirm the booking but for a slightly higher price of £138. When I queried this slight difference they said there was an error and that the price is now £600 for the 2 nights (£300 per night). Taken aback by this I telephoned Expedia who said the hotel should honour the original price. I followed this up by submitting an official "complaint" to Expedia in order to find out if in fact the hotel (or Expedia) is in any way obliged to honour the price quoted and now paid for. I trust this is not an unreasonable thing to do in the circumstances.

When I told the hotel of my actions they replied, "Good for you. we are a small business trying to survive post covid and its a genuine mistake as all other properties available at that time are at the correct rates for the event. I wouldn't have you stay with me now if you offered £10k. Good luck. finding another hotel."

Three problems here - they shouldn't have 1) quoted £130 in the first instance; then 2) compounded the mistake by subsequently acknowledging the booking for £138 (which might not be the £130, as quoted and paid for, but it's NOWHERE near the £600 they later asked me to pay); and 3) responded rudely and aggressively without justification.

I booked the “garden room” in early August. Website photos look ok. The “garden room” was basically a shed. No staff anywhere. We got a phone call the morning we arrived, apologising for there being no fridge or tv. They were “upgrading” the room. We decided to go ahead but asked for a small discount.
The room had one chair and a small table with the mirror balanced on it and also held the kettle etc. no bin anywhere. The kettle wouldn’t fit under the bathroom tap. Both the toilet door and the closet door stuck and could not be fully closed. The one small window with a pull down blind, looked onto a rotting shed in the back garden. To get into the back garden, you had to put your shoulder to the gate to open it. We met other guests who had no means of entry at the front and no idea which room was theirs. No staff anywhere.
I filled in their review and got no reply but then no payment was taken. Until today!! Out of the blue, the full amount was debited 3 months after the event, with no communication.
DONT GO THERE.

Requested sea view room when booked, emailed to double check we had sea view, no response, assumed wrongly we had. Arrived, collected keys stuck on front door. Room 2, no sea view at all, intact view over back alley. Emailed owner told sea view room booked, would have been nice if she'd told me when I booked.
Very average room. Would not stay or recommend.

We have stayed at the Daviot many times and its a nice place and a nice family.

However what has been really disappointing recently through no fault of our own is that despite trying to book direct rather than go through online sites to maximise revenue for the Daviot we have had nothing but problems.

The last 3 occasions we have tried to visit over several months either there were mix ups with rooms due to the Daviot double booking and on 2 occasions were moved to other establishments. Again due to booking issues when booking direct with the Daviot rather than a website..

On the most recent visit a letter was left at the door to advise of this and no personal touch to apologise for this other than in the letter advising we had been moved. The letter referred to calls being made to advise us of their admin issue however no calls were made on any of our contact numbers. On any other booking the company has had our number so don't see why the Daviot would not?

The room we booked was on the ground floor, where we were placed was in a converted garage at the bottom of a grubby yard with a heater that did not work. The access to the garage was at the back of the house next to the dustbins through a dark riickety gate, to which you were given a key.We had no access to the main building so we felt completely cut off and cold. The following morning when I informed them we did not want to stay in that "room" for the second night they said they were full and that was that and we mist still pay for two nights. So we paid and left, tried to get a hotel but failed, so we cut our break short and went home. I would not recommend these people to anybody,as money is their main motive, not the comfort of their guests. They call the garage a "Garden Flat",there is no garden and I certainly would not call it a Flat. I am going to write to the Sottish Tourist Board,I'm disgusted!

I was working in the area so decided to get a hotel. It seemed like a good idea at the time but ended up regretting it as cost me a fortune!!
I didn't arrive until well after 2300 hours, no one was there to greet guests which should have been a warning to the quality of the people who run the place. Anyway, once I found my key and then found my room I was that exhausted I fell asleep straight away, I was that tired I didn't even set my alarm. Next thing I know I'm getting a chap on the door saying that it's check out time!! I'd slept in by almost 3 hours!! I basically got up, dressed and out the door stopping very briefly to splash some water on my face and then downstairs to pay the bill..
Almost an hour later I get a call from the hotel staff. They say someone has been smoking in the room. Bearing in mind that I was sleeping from about the same time as my bag hit the floor until they woke me, also throw in the fact that I don't even smoke and you'd think I'd have some re-course against their accusations!?! Unfortunately not. I was told that £100 was getting debited from my card and there is basically nothing I could do as their word is final!!
Really wish I hadn't booked now as cost me £50 for the night (without breakfast) and then an extra £100 for absolutely nothing, false allegations!!!
If anyone is thinking about booking here then I'd suggest sleeping in the car instead, or see if it's possible to maybe get a homeless person to give you a loan of their park bench!! If neither of these options are suitable then I'd definitely suggest taking as many photos as possible of the room and ensuite (if applicable) when you get there and then again when you're leaving!! Seriously though, I'd think twice before booking here as it could very easily be you next!!

Thank you for taking the time to review us on trip Advisor. I would like to address ALL of the issues that you have raised above: Firstly, we are a small family run guest house who take a great deal of pride in what we do and our relationships with our guests. Many of our customers are repeat because of that. However, being a small family run guest house open 7 days a week we simply cannot always guarantee greeting guests at 1130 at night. Our policy clearly states check in is allowed up until 9 pm and then late check in can be arranged if we are informed. Your key was attached to our front glass door clearly with a very concise and self-explanatory letter inside explaining exactly where your room was and how to find it. We have used the same letter template with foreign visitors who have easily managed to navigate this. To address your second point; breakfast is served daily from 0800 to 0930 although we are extremely flexible with this and have served breakfast as early as 0630 and as late as 1000, again, on prior arrangement. Late check out can also sometimes be arranged depending on the time of arrival of the next guests to the room. That particular day we had guests who had been in contact asking us if they could check in at noon, our earliest check in time, as they were attending a family birthday party. As you had not requested a late check out the standard practice of a 1030 check out was in place. There is a clear notice in the room that we do not accept smoking in our bedrooms. It’s a selfish practice that makes the environment less pleasant for the subsequent guests and also forces us to spend an inordinate length of time cleaning and removing the malodour. I personally had serviced the room that you were staying in that evening and I can assure you of the following: 1. every single towel was freshly laundered and smoke free, 2. the bedside light was on the bed side table and intact and not as I found it on the desk and broken, 3. the complimentary sewing kit was brand new and intact. When I entered the room on your departure the sewing kit contents were all over the desk and my attention was drawn in particular to the safety pin which had been opened out and had clearly been used to burn something (looked very like little black crumbs and soot spots on the back of the guest registration card), 4. there were no small black crumbs underneath the guest registration card and there were no cigarette papers (perhaps you simply needed those in case you had to "stick something together"), 5.there were certainly no flakes of tobacco on the desk or on the bathroom floor, 6. and there were no traces of ash underneath the skylight in the bathroom (which was the scene of the offensive smoke smell.) I can only apologise if as you claim you were “sleeping from about the same time as my bag hit the floor until they woke me” and suggest that whatever site you were working on that day may have been home to some dangerous, smoking gremlins who entered my home, broke my lamp, smoked substances in my room and left ash all over the bathroom floor and left freshly laundered towels reeking of smoke. Perhaps I should approach your place of work and make this known to them! Should you decide to come and stay in Ayr again please feel free to get in touch and I can recommend a park bench to rest your head on or a rock to go sleep under. We very much appreciate HONEST and constructive feedback. This review has been none of the above.

I recently stayed at this charming guest house with my daughter and my two grandsons. It was just perfect and so comfortable. We had the family room number 3 right at the front of the house with two huge beautiful fully opening sash windows which were so good in the 25 degree heat.

The house is very clean and beautifully decorated and the beds were perfect for a good nights sleep. The en-suite room had everything we required right down to an electric fan and a fridge, just perfect. The bathroom was well appointed with quality toiletries and thick fluffy towels far better than I have had in some 4* hotels, well done Daviot.

The breakfast was freshly cooked to order and was delicious. The choice on the breakfast menu was huge about 12 different choices and you could even choose your time which really suited us.

Although all of the above was fantastic, what really made the Daviot stand out was the very warm welcome we received from Linda and Richard and all the little extra thoughtful touches they provided for their guests needs. Like the fresh milk for your room if needed, the umbrellas in the hall if required, the well stocked hospitality tray in the room etc. All this and dog friendly too!, they even offer to babysit your dog for short periods amazing.

I will certainly return when in Ayr and I have also recommended The Daviot to a friend who requires a downstairs room and there is a garden room at the Daviot which would be perfect for her. All in all 11 out of 10. Take a bow Linda and Richard you have earned and deserve it. Thanks so much for looking after us.
