Travellers' Choice
A bonnie town right on the Clyde, Dumbarton is the gateway to the Lowlands, and the Premier Inn Hotel Dumbarton is the place to stay. Whether you're enjoying the highlife at a wedding at nearby Cameron House, or you're simply breaking the journey on your way to the Highlands, there's plenty to see and do. From walking round the banks of Loch Lomond, to browsing round the boutiques in the shore shopping centre, you'll find lots to tempt you. Traditional Scotland is much in evidence, with the Pipe Band Championships, or a hot toddy on offer at the Auchentoshan whisky distillery. Then it's time for a warm welcome at our restaurant, and a lovely comfy bed.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed at this hotel various times as its near our properties that we are letting. Always found staff and rooms are good though it's a pain to have to ask for iron and board at reception then haul them up to room. The biggest issue is the wifi is rubbish. Even paying for premier wifi is pointless, you cannot do much online as its so slow. It's 2024 it seems a bit daft they have weak signals.

This is a good hotel. Comfortable and clean. My only negative is that the windows don’t open and even with the aircon at 17 degrees, I found the room too warm. However, I must single out for praise the young guy who worked in reception - afraid I didn’t get his name. He was an absolutely lovely guy, friendly and helpful. He’s a credit to premier inn.

I would usually avoid Premier Inn as for just a few pounds more, you can usually get a gym in the hotel, but one thing I can rely on is that Premier Inn gives a good sleep which is what was required on this trip of the highlands.I love the reliability of the brand for that, most comfortable mattresses ever. Their wifi service, though advertised as free feel like a misdirection as there is not a lot you can do on it, and you have to purchase the premier wifi to be able to do anything with it.At £5 a day, it becomes an unplanned expense which I think should be included in the cost of the hotel, which is where I think the value of the hotel room drops a bit.

Stayed in room five. A nice clean family room on the ground floor. The TV was dreadful having but a handful of channels and as with most older PIs it was a tad warm and would benefit from aircon but a good night's sleep was had at a very good price, Excellent staff here - very helpful and chatty.

We stopped over this place for a night before heading back home. The room he gave us smell a bit stinky feet it must be the carpet. We can hear footsteps someone is running above our room. When my husband opened the lid of the kettle to put some water in for a cuppa what we found inside is some disgusting noodles in it! See photos. Disgraceful. Although it was replaced but the experienced cannot be forgotten.

The hotel is in a very convenient location to explore around the Loch Lomond area - though don't expect good views from the hotel itself, ours was onto the housing estate. The room we had was much larger than other Premier Inns and very clean. The bathroom was poor, with a mouldy ceiling and peeling paint, but all the Premier Inns we've been in recently have been like this. The staff were friendly. The price was good. Overall I would recommend.

Ideal base for exploring loch lomond and beyond. Check in staff were great and special mention to Charlene and Emma on check in who were kind enough to leave some activity packs for the kids and a few other goodies as first timer visitors there. Nice little surprise so thank you for that! Ate next door a few times at Brewers Fayre and all the staff were great there too and very friendly. Only thing was the restaurant seemed to lack a bit of organisation (lots of items unavailable at 5pm on a Sunday and quite understaffed to begin with on the Monday) but the food was still served quickly both times and was good. Breakfast was good too. Overall an enjoyable short stay and great base for our trips to loch lomond and the highlands. Sure we will be back

Zero soundproofing between walls/floors. Ask for a room on the top floor if you don’t want to be woken up at all hours. Certainly don’t accept a room in the newish extension! Then there’s the WiFi. Do t waste your money.

On arrival at the hotel at 2:50pm (check in is 3pm), I entered reception to ask if we could check in. I was informed that this has a £10 fee before 3pm, however she would "waive" this for us... I would have been happy to sit in the car with a coffee for 10 minutes! Room needs a redecoration, shower was extremely feeble and the temperature didn't go below 17 degrees which is too warm for one of us, so sleeping was difficult. We had booked the meal deal, so evening meal and breakfast. We went to the restaurant and were provided with a list of things they didn't have on the menu, including veggie burgers... in 2024 you would think they would have adequate stock! Husband ordered the veggie hot dog, which consisted of 2 normal veggie sausages which had no colour on them and were luke warm in the middle. The drinks machine had fanta, lemonade or cola - no other selections. Breakfast was about the same, although the poached eggs were decent. I've stayed in a lot of Premier Inns but this was by far the worst experience I've had. Our son is getting married in October near this location and we were going to recommend this as a base for those travelling, however we will now be advising people to avoid it

Hotel is in a great location for exploring the area, whether it is Loch Lomond, Helensburgh or even Glasgow by road or rail. Premier Inn can be assured of a great stay as you know exactly that the hotel will be clean and comfortable with a decent eatery adjacent, Dumbarton hotel was excellent, rooms were clean and fresh, and at night quiet and comfortable. The Brewers Fayre next door was very good, especially as we had to use it all 3 nights of our stay due to the weather, with great food and excellent service. There is also two coffee stops close by, Costa and Starbucks, and a petrol station. Overall, despite rubbish weather, we had a great stay!
