It is only about 10 minutes walk on the Muckross road. There is an outlet centre in the town which has a few shops (nike, paco, outdoor shop). The centre of Killarney has small shops and restaurants. If your just looking for coffee and cake then I would recommend the café- "underground". It is not really underground and just a step or two below street level. It has a ramp from the door down so no need to negotiate steps.
