Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This B&B is very basic. The breakfast is exceptionally poor, cheap cold food and very little choice. The rooms were clean. I would avoid staying here if possible as it is poor value for money. The standard of the breakfast was the worst we have ever come across.

DO NOT STAY HERE! John Byrne, the owner, refused to honour our reservation and demanded more money from us if we wanted to stay or else we have to leave. He shouted and cursed at my friend and I and raised him arm at me refusing me from leaving. I felt physically and verbally intimidated and extremely unsafe in his presence. I would have called the guards on him had his son not called and diffused the situation. One of the worst people, not to mind hotelier, I have ever met. Do not stay here, would feel unsafe staying under the same roof as him.

After driving 3 hours we arrived at the property and the owner demanded we pay more money or he would not accommodate us. The price for the rooms were advertised falsely on the third party site in which we booked. Which was an issue between the property and the site, not us. We refused to pay the balance as it’s not what we booked. After a heated argument the property owner refused to let my friend leave the property and physically blocked him from exiting the door while raising he’s voice to him, Eventually he told us to “f**k off” Luckily we got accommodated in a hotel close by. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from a businessman that claimed has been operating since 1998.

Parking very secure, the couple are lovely that run it and found it a very reasonable price! No choice of breakfast ie poached/scrambled/boiled eggs. Otherwise very clean n basic for location etc

This was a last minute decision late one night and a poor one at that but we didn’t have much choice. The owner is a nice enough fellow but realizing we were in a bind he put us in this very small basement room which barely had enough room for the three of us and our bags, the beds were old and uncomfortable and at half the cost it would have been acceptable. The breakfast was fine, the place is clean and the location is excellent however I would not recommend it if you have other options but it’s ok to get you out of a jam.

Lovely B&B with fantastic breakfast cooked by the host. The owner is an artist and author and a warm and friendly hostess. The location is great- walkable to castle , restaurants, shopping and pubs. There is onsite parking if you are driving. The rooms are small and old fashioned but clean and comfortable. I recommend it.

Upon arrival, we were told to get in our car and follow the manager in his car. We thought we were going to a parking lot. Instead we drove about 1/2 mile to a totally different B&B. Then the manager announces to us that there had been a booking error, and we can stay in the other B&B, at a 10 Euro cost reduction! We had made our reservation 2 months earlier. The substitute B&B was adequate, but about 4 blocks further from the central area of town. I would avoid Celtic House.

While the hosts are friendly and very well-intentioned, this is a very basic place. Our double room was tiny by any standard, and it was tough to even find a place to put our suitcases. The linens were very tired, the TV was teeny, bed was lumpy. Nice wood floors - but very creaky. Breakfast had little choice and I found it too fatty. The location is a nice walk from the main area of Kilkenny, and the snug secure car park is very helpful. If you want 'basic' in a good location, this is the place for you.
