The Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel receives accolades for its vibrant atmosphere, enhanced by lively music and charming decor that guests find welcoming. Its central location is a hit among travelers eager to explore Kilkenny on foot, though the joy of discovery is somewhat tempered by remarks about the expensive parking and lackluster breakfast options. While the rooms exude vintage charm and are generally comfortable, the absence of air conditioning and dated furnishings have not gone unnoticed. Commendations abound for the hotel's cleanliness and the staff's exemplary service, which together ensure a pleasant and memorable stay.

My Stay at The Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel was a Wonderful Experience. From The Front Desk Staff to The Restaurant Team, Nothing was to great for the Staff who made my Stay In Kilkenny, a wonderful memorable Experience. The Kilkenny Hibernian is Centrally located in the Centre of town with the Castle just a stones throw away, with great Restaurants and pubs close by. I highly recommend the Field and lanicans for great live music along with The Kyteler inn close by. For those looking for a great Stay in Kilkenny look no further than The Kilkenny Hibernian Hotel you will no be disappointed. I look forward to a future Visit In Kilkenny.

We booked a suite for two nights. Arriving early afternoon on a Sunday the staff were more than happy to keep our bags safe until our room was ready while we enjoyed a fab lunch in the hotel bar. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A continental buffet breakfast followed by a full Irish set us up each day for a ramble around town. We also dined in Harper’s restaurant and we found the choice of menu coupled with the friendly and attentive staff together made for a very pleasant evening. Couldn’t fault our stay and would be very happy to stay again.

We arrived late but was greeted with a very warm welcome on arrival by a lovely lady named Anna Marie. Anna was so professional and friendly, definitely set the standard of first impressions very high.

We stayed in room 120 and were absolutely blown away at how beautifully presented and spotless the room was with a fantastic view of the main street.
Simply gorgeous!

Dinner on Friday evening along with breakfast both mornings was delicious and service was executed flawlessly by the staff. Such a warm and friendly atmosphere created by a team that seem to be genuinely interested and happy in what they are doing. Nothing was too much trouble and customer service seemed to come so naturally to them all.

One staff member that stood out to us was Helen. She served us breakfast both mornings and I could also see her still buzzing around the hotel after lunch. It was clear she works very hard and again seemed to enjoy serving each customer.

Another staff member I would like to mention is Robbie from the bar, Robbie served us drinks Saturday afternoon and was a very polite, bubbly and witty gentleman. He set the perfect tone that you would expect from a nice hotel bar in a busy city like Kilkenny.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! I have done nothing but gush to both my friends and family about how amazing everything was and how the Hibernian will forever be my first choice of stay when I revisit in the future.

Sincerely thanking the entire team for going above and beyond all my expectations!

We have to say the staff were really nice but the breakfast in the mornings were very disorganised, we ordered, then a while later they came and asked for to gave our order again, the tea was the worst I have ever had anywhere in the world.
When we eventually got our breakfast (poached egg on sour dough bread and bacon) it was delicious. We stayed for 3 nights and we had the same problem each morning. The restaurant reception and bar staff were all very friendly.

Our room 220 was very spacious, we were very happy with it, but it didn't have WiFi in the room.
On arriving at our room on the first evening we saw we had no soap four times my husband asked for soap but we didn't get any till the following afternoon.

My boyfriend and I travelled to Kilkenny for our staycation this year. We stayed in a hotel slightly outside of the city centre for the first 3 nights and decided we would extend our stay for an additional night. We booked a deal for the Hibernian Hotel through The Pigs Back which included bed, breakfast, dining credit, a late check out and Lily O’Brien chocolates on arrival. We paid an additional fee to upgrade our room, therefore the total came to €160 for the night. Expensive to say the least but it was the last night of our holiday and we decided to go all out. Unfortunately, our stay wasn’t quite as pleasant as we had hoped.

Firstly, there were no chocolates in sight (not a big deal so we were willing to overlook it). We had asked the young girl at reception upon arrival how the dining credit worked as we weren’t sure. We asked her if we both had to have 3 courses in order to avail of the credit or if we could just have 1 or 2 courses. The girl seemed unsure but told us that she “didn’t see why not”. We were instructed to ask in the bar, which we did, and we got a similar very uncertain answer from the waitress. A little while later, another member of reception ensured us we just had to order off the menu in order to avail of the dining credit. However, upon paying the bill for the bar later that evening, we were told by the bar staff that we were ill-informed and that we would have to pay the bill in full because we couldn’t avail of the dining credit. This was very frustrating as we would have had all 3 courses had we known.

It’s extremely disappointing because we paid extra money for a nicer room, we spent €75+ in total in the bar after being ill-informed by 3 different staff members, a housekeeper walked into our room at 11:20am the following morning despite having a late check-out included in our package. The Lily O’Brien’s chocolates which should have been included in our package were nowhere to be seen and the right window of our room was extremely difficult to close, and it took both me and my boyfriend to get it shut. I informed the receptionist of all our mishaps on departure and she informed us she would let the accommodation manager know and that they would be in contact with me later that day. Unfortunately, I have still yet to hear from the hotel as no one has contacted me about our stay since. I just think for the amount of money we spent in the hotel nobody has taken the issues very seriously.

Dear Guest, Let me start by thanking you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am very sorry that your time with us was not all of a positive nature, but let me reassure you take all comments seriously. As we are a city centre building with a very rich history, a lot of our rooms fortunately still have the original window frames. Most of our guests would see this as a positive point, as it shows the buildings rich character. All the original wooden sash windows have modern day attachments to retain heat whilst still maintaining a certain level of security and comfort for our guests. If you had notified us whilst staying in the room we would have immediately organised a staff member to assist you with closing the window and shutter. I presume when you say you had to "order off the menu" you mean that you were presented with our "inclusive menu" and not that you had no menu at all. The dining credit can be used against a food purchase (not beverages) regardless of which menu you may have eaten from, my apologies if this wasn't communicated accurately for you. We have ongoing active training for all areas of our operation, and I can assure you the aforementioned issues will be retrained in detail to assure there is no future miscommunication. Once again thank you again for taking the time to post your review on TripAdvisor, and please feel free to stay with us again in the future. If you book directly we will always offer the best rate, and allow us an opportunity to communicate to you efficiently. Kind Regards Dominic Assistant Manager

We visited this Hotel today for lunch we are often in Kilkenny and alway have been meaning to have lunch here .
The hotel is beautiful clean and tidy hotel with extremely friendly staff so we really looked forward to lunch here and to say it was very disappointing is an understatement the chips were reheated and greasy and the bacon in the toasted sandwich was rock hard burnt to a crisp and very hard to eat the price for what we got was extremely expensive also.
Not sure if this is a once of but if not wouldn't be racing back there

We had a nice stay here overall, mostly due to the fact the location is excellent and very central. The room was nice, spacious & there was a jacuzzi bath which was lovely! Staff were professional and friendly.

There were a few small let downs in terms of cleanliness: like some of the furniture was a bit dusty & there were hair clips on the carpet that weren’t ours. Also some of the sockets, including the ones next to the bed,
were too small for our phone chargers which was weird. Just think there needs to be a bit more attention to detail and updates and it would be a lot nicer.

Based on our experience of the breakfast, I’d actually advise going room only & getting breakfast elsewhere (take advantage of the central location!!) Everything just tasted like it was bought in the supermarket and wasn’t very good quality. It just wasn’t nice and not what you’d expect from a 4 star hotel. If you’re looking for convenience, there’s loads of lovely cafes/restaurants serving breakfast directly across from the hotel.

All in all it was nice, but I think could use some more care and attention to detail.

Decided to brave a night away despite covid with our two teenage boys.Booked this hotel based on reviews. Rooms are tastefully decorated but the big issue was the air flow and heat. The heating wasn't on (17 degrees outside that day) and the windows only open a tiny bit so was very uncomfortable experience. There is a small electric fan
in each room but not powerful enough to offer any real comfort and noisy when trying to sleep. Dinner was included in package but was served in the bar due to Covid and there wasn't any real benefit to being on the package (€50 per couple) and also set menu. Staff were accommodating though and let us order steak with €5 supp. From Al la carte menu. Steak was lovely as were the wings and goats cheese starter. Breakfast on the other hand was just OK but appreciate that it's a tougher gig during covid. Kilkenny really great city and we had a fab 24 escape despite the below par hotel experience.

My sisters and I stayed for a 2 night stay mid week stay in this gorgeous hotel which embodied old world charm! It’s location was fantastic and the rooms, while a little on the small side, were very clean and comfortable. However, it was the staff who made our visit memorable! Every single member of staff was welcoming, friendly and professional. From the housekeeping staff, who could be seen constantly sanitising common areas such as the lifts and stair bannisters to the bar staff, who were attentive and jovial. However, special mention has to go to the breakfast manger (I forgot to get her name!!) and also Nicole, who allowed us to sit and linger over our breakfast - way after breakfast was over! An never ending supply of tea and coffee was produced along with the offer of extra pastries. We were made to feel relaxed and nothing was too much trouble - even though I’m sure we were in the way!! It’s rare to come across such great customer service so a Big Thank You to all at the Hibernian for ensuring that we had an amazing stay!!

I booked the hibernian hotel because of its close proximity to the town centre. I was travelling with my mum who is blind. The hotel was perfect for our needs with bustling shops and local attractions right on the doorstep.
The hotel was very comfortable and I felt the staff went above and beond to accommodate us.
I was particularly impressed by the staff in the restaurant and in particular Sophie who was the waitress working that night.
Sophie recognised my mums difficulty in viewing the menu so she talked her through the options. Mum usually has what I have but I am vegetarian and she is not. Mum had the slow roast beef on Sophie's recommendation and enjoyed it immensely. The food came out beautifully cut into manageable chunks for her (soemthing I usually have to do) but it was also really nicely displayed on the plate.
As another surprise Sophie brought us a complementary happy birthday dessert for mum which was a real treat that we both enjoyed.
Thank you to all the staff who helped make our trip a success, I can say it gave my mum confidence to travel again soemthing which the pandemic took away. We will certainly be back and I would recommend the hibernian hotel to anyone staying in kilkenny!

Hello, We did not notice any noise from the hotel it's self, but there way some street noise but once we closed the window it was fine. The biggest disturbance for us was the large pub across the road getting a very early morning deliver of beer kegs. Mostly we slept well.
