Detailed Reviews
Second stop on multi city trip to Ireland. Lovely house that only reopened a few weeks prior. Owners are a lovely couple who really go out of their way to not only provide a great facility but also friendly and helpful. Rooms are very large with en suite bathrooms (ours had both a shower and bath tub). We happened to be there during a warm soellsand the lack of air conditioning was a bit rough, and you can only open the windows when it is dark so the night bugs don't come inside the room. Breakfast was a full Irish option and they have tea, coffee and sweets available 24/7 which is a nice option. Short 10 minute drive to the heart of Kilkenny, which has lots to do and can be explored by foot. Parking at this B&B is easy and sufficient. Make sure you confirm, your reservations a few weeks prior directly with the proprietors as they receive bookings from an outside company so you might not receive communications from them depending on your email settings. We would definitely stay here again when back in town. Overall a very pleasant experience and well worth the cost.

This guesthouse I have used on a few occasions. Mairead & Jimmy provide the most professional service. Their home is outstanding & immaculately clean. The location is perfect being just five minutes from Kilkenny city but yet it boasts a countryside feel. The attention to detail is second to none (loving the Nicholas Mosse pottery tableware). The ideal place to stay for a quiet get-away with the most gracious host(s).

Thank you so much Tom for taking the time to do such a lovely review of Newlands Lodge, we are always particularly pleased when guests choose Newlands Lodge for their stay in Kilkenny but more so when we know guests wish to return. We are lucky to live in beautiful countryside but still only 6kms from medieval Kilkenny and from Kells priory. We look forward to having you back. Take care until then, Mairead and Jimmy

We had the pleasure of staying at Newlands Lodge for 3 nights in July. It is about 6 km outside of the town centre, in a lovely rural area. Mairead and Jimmy were the consummate hosts, friendly and helpful, offering great recommendations for activities and dining options. Their home is comfortable, with spacious rooms, and their breakfasts are made fresh to your specifications. Kilkenny was one of our favorite stops on a three week visit to Ireland, and staying at Newlands Lodge is a happy memory for us. Highly recommend it!

We had a wonderful stay with Mairead prior to attending a family wedding. The location is ideal, near to Kilkenny city but set in the countryside, very peaceful and quiet.
The room we stayed in was very large, tastefully decorated with a wonderful bathroom. Bathrobes available and bottled water in bedroom also. A lovely touch.
Breakfast was amazing, all fresh ingredients and cooked beautifully.
Mairead is so welcoming and genuinely interested in talking to her guests. She has a wealth of local knowledge and can give wonderful advice on sights to see and places to visit.
I would highly recommend staying here when visiting Kilkenny.

After spending time in various hotel rooms on our tour of
England and Ireland, which were fine but, let’s face it, impersonal, we came to Newlands Lodge a few miles outside of Kilkenny on the main road. If you are driving, it is easy to find; if not, it’s a short taxi ride from the train station. We did not have a car, so we did have to hire a taxi, which was fine. There’s a long driveway from the gate up to the lodge, taking you away from the noise of traffic from the road.
If you were to imagine what an Irish lodge in the country would look like, this would be it. The grounds are lovely and well cared for. We especially liked to sit and enjoy the views from the windows in our room. The interior is decorated for comfort and coziness, including our room which had, by far, the most comfortable bed on our entire trip. The stay was surprisingly very affordable.
Most of all, it was the hospitality that was most appreciated. Mairead is warm, friendly, helpful, and kind. She went out of her way to make our stay special. Her fabulous Irish breakfast was cooked to order and beautifully presented. We could have stayed at a hotel in town for convenience, but we’re glad we didn’t. That experience was one of the best we had on our tour.

We stayed in Newlands Lodge for two nights. The hosts, Mairead and Jimmy, could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The bedroom was spacious, comfortable and very clean. The area is so quiet and I slept really well. There is a wide range of choice for breakfast, all freshly cooked, and I had the impression that if we had asked for something special Mairead would have prepared it. It’s about 5.5 km from Kilkenny City - a very direct route. This place is exceptional and we fully recommend it. Top marks!

Newlands Lodge is delightful. Our room was spacious, light and extremely comfortable. The gardens are beautiful, alive with birds. Breakfast is cooked to order, with personal likes and dislikes catered for. Great location in that it is close to Kilkenny but far enough out to feel relaxed and quiet. Our hosts were friendly and professional. Very good value for money as standards are very high. Thank you, we will be back!

This is a really nice b&b around 10 minute drive outside of Kilkenny. As long as you have a car though that really isn’t an issue. Also the area around is stunning. The host was lovely and very helpful and the breakfast was superb. The room I was in didn’t get a WiFi signal for some reason on my iPad but did on my laptop however it worked very well downstairs. Well worth staying here.

Hi,
Good afternoon from Newlands Lodge and thank you for your enquiry. We are 6 Kms from Kilkenny on R697 driving towards Kells Priory and village. You really need to have a car to drive
to Newlands Lodge as the public transport system (other than taxi) is limited in the countryside.
A better choice for you is to stay near Kilkenny town centre close to the bus stops and railway station.
Enjoy your time in Kilkenny.
Thanks again,
Mairead
