I can imagine this inn as an old coaching inn on the Great North Road. I was told that it was 300 years old but I think it may be even older. Lots of character.

We paid a good price for two rooms in the courtyard, which comprises converted old buildings. They are basic and feel dated. The bedding is cheap and a bit thin. The room (9) was cold on arrival. The bathroom is not a nice environment.

The building looks as nice as it does in the photos, but they don’t show the proximity of the dual carriageway. This makes the location convenient but you can hear vehicles through the night. It’s more of a background noise than a roar, but I noticed it because I live in the country. My colleague who lives in a town did not.

We didn’t eat as we arrived late and left early. Ultimately we got what we paid for. A bit of imagination in the rooms perhaps drawing on the heritage of the place might pay off.

Well, where to start! We went on the search as newly engaged people do for the perfect venue. We visited several and then chanced upon a google search of The Sibson. One quickly answered email and off we went to visit. Bearing in mind that the other venues just didn't feel right when we walked into the marquee we both said WOW! It looked like and felt like the perfect wedding venue. We didn't book it on the spot but did so 2 days later after working out the cost, which was broken down so easily and was not like so many venues which had a minimum amount of guests.
So, now we are all booked up and busy planning and then Covid hit! We held our ground from the start, we were keeping our date 5th June 2021 and we would have as many guests as we were allowed. Diane and David at the Sibson were great and supported us all the way through. Any wobble, question, panic we had they calmed and answered.
The weekend of the wedding arrived and everything was ready for us to put the finishing touches to. I know that had we wanted to the staff would have done this for us but there were enough of us about to do that ourselves. The rooms we stayed in the night before were lovely and well stocked with tea coffee and biscuits.
The morning of the wedding my future husband was banned from the breakfast room until I had left. We were lucky that we could keep rooms whilst getting ready as they had vacancies for that evening so there was no rushing about. The wedding itself took place in the Ceremony room and was equally beautiful. The staff, although maybe nervous as this was their first wedding since the pandemic, were totally professional and arranged the music, guests and registrar meetings with ease.
The reception was wonderful. The food was exceptional and we had several compliments form the guests about it. All courses were served seamlessly and no-one ended up with wrong meals. Gluten-free dietary requirements were met with ease also.
We stayed in the bridal suite that night which is a lovely room, amazing bathroom!
All in all we couldnt fault any of our stay or the wedding itself. Yes, it would have been nice to have lots more guests and an evening do but that was beyond anyone's control. We will have another go at that in the future.
Thanks to Diane, David, Bret, Zoe and all the other staff that helped with our amazing day. xx

Not our first stay at this in and most definitely will not be our last.

The team are friendly, helpful and thoughtful and have put a lot of thought and work into making their inn as Covid proof as it’s possible to be.

Food is first class our two choices for dinner, chicken and bacon Caesar salad for my wife and an absolutely delicious hone made southern fried chicken burger, I’d love the recipe!

Breakfast was cooked to order and good quality ingredients.

Can’t recommend it enough, we’ll be popping in again next month

We booked last minute for a one night stay with our children. I was nice to receive a personal email from the hotel asking whether we would require and evening meal.
Our welcome was warm and friendly and check in simple. We were shown to our room which had everything we needed for the night, even better that the kids had a separate bedroom area.
Facilities were clean and covered your basic needs. Beds were comfortable, but could benefit from having a couple more pillows. However, I think had we have requested this, it would have been no problem.
The evening meal was delicious and provided more than enough food for the value. Serving staff (I think his name was Brett), was so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble.
Same again with breakfast, sausages were particularly tasty.
Thank you for a comfortable and enjoyable stay!

We have often passed this hotel located on the A1 while on our northbound travels, and every time we comment we need to 'stay at cutsie hotel at the side of the road'. As a random night away we made the trip specifically to come to this hotel for the night and return home next day. We booked the bridal suite as we do prefer a bigger room and the bathtub has room for two! The TV had netflix and amazon prime already on there

Check in was efficient and hassle free. The food was excellent - beef blade and a steak were had and we found them to be excellent. I did not expect a decent wine selection, however of the 6 or so choices of red and white, the one we picked was actually rather good, especially for the price point.

The place is decorated in the old english lodge style and retains a lot of those 'early years' features. Some may not like that, we found it charming. If you like old world charm, low wooden beams, stone fireplaces with an air of a quiet village pub

We felt totally relaxed, there was no pressure, no fuss. The right questions were asked about enjoyment of the room, food and drinks. Something that we did find surprising - there was absolutely no road noise whatsoever. Despite being so close, you honestly cant hear a thing from the road even when trucks are powering past over and over. Slept like a baby

Overall we enjoyed the stay. Its super charming and old world. Friendly staff and the other patrons were friendly too.

Stayed just the night for an early start the next day.
We didn’t arrive until after eight pm but the host made sure we were made welcome.
He had arranged for the chef to stay til we arrived so the 5 of us could have a meal.
The meal & breakfast next day were great.
The hotel is very oldy Worldy with a decent bar.
The room was good , one double & a single. The bathroom with a large tub is just off the bedroom. Bedroom had a wardrobe, 3 sets of drawers, air dryer, tv & looks out onto open fields at the back & courtyard to the front.
The hotel is not glamorous, in need of a little tidying up in places but very homely with great staff.
We did have one issue, the double bed duvet had a large stain, not good really. Too late when we arrived had our meal & a few drinks to get it changed but not a massive problem as we just didn’t use it as the weather was quite warm. Receptionist next day couldn’t understand how housekeeping had missed it, but they obviously did.
Without the stain I would have rated the place higher.
The cost of the room was very good value, the food home cooked & delicious.
Would I recommend the place, yes.

We stayed here for one night on the 27th August, with 2 children (teens) and a dog. Check in was quick and easy and we were impressed with the beautiful building immediately.
The room was spacious with a huge bathroom too, with both a shower and bath.
One double bed and 2 singles, all very comfortable and with good quality mattresses.
Tea/coffee facility in the room.
We had friends visit us for a meal in the restaurant that evening and it must be said that the food was exceptional.
The pork belly was incredible, my husband had the pie which was also homemade and delicious, others had the fish, burger, soup to start and all was enjoyed.
The staff were friendly and accommodating at all times and the bar is well stocked of gins, wines and beer.
We all slept well and were not disturbed by any noise from the A1 at all (courtyard room).
Would highly recommend this hotel and we will be back!

My first encounter with The Sibson Inn was my prom back in 2011 - I was simply a kid who had fun!

Now, as an adult, my partner and I are very excited to wed here next year. We have had dinner here on x2 occasions now, one of which included an overnight stay followed by breakfast and the food is thoroughly enjoyable. Plentiful portion sizes, presented well and using quality produce with more than satisfying wait times! The breakfast didn’t disappoint either.

The rooms are beautiful, clean and styled to suit the venue and its heritage. Do not be put off by reviews mentioning road noise, we were in room 6 and heard no such thing, day or night. If the wind was travelling in a certain direction, I expect you may hear road noise but what do you expect when situated next to the A1?

Bret and Diane are the members of staff we have had the pleasure of being looked after by and they really do go above and beyond, we know we are in capable hands with them and have no concerns about our big day.

We absolutely adore this place.

Friendly helpful staff. We were running late but they made sure someone was available to check us in, point out and switch on the electric car charger and they offered to reopen the bar.
Ideal location for us by the A1 but no obtrusive noise. Excellent night's sleep.
Very good cooked breakfast in the morning. I wouldn't hesitate to book the place again.

We have stayed here on many occasions. We visited for a meal to celebrate early Valentine’s Day. There were only a few people in the restaurant. We ordered leek and potato soup for starter. On arrival it looked ok but very watery and that is what it tasted like! Water. We sent it back. We then ordered steak, £25 per head. Omg, the steak was full of fat and thin. I wish I’d taken a photo, it was all brown greasy food. The chips were in skins and dripping with fat. The mushrooms were shrivelled and wet with grease. No peas, just a tomato! Our food was returned to the kitchen. An absolutely awful meal. We still paid £50 for it, absolutely shocked how very bad it was. The only good part was the lovely waiter who was very apologetic
