Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Old, tired, ran down and try to sting you with carpark costs (as you only get a 12 hour stay, and they try to charge you twice if this runs over, I checked in at 6pm and had the audacity to leave at 7.30am and was held back and late for work because we were arguing about costs then I had to wait for some maintenance man to open the gate to let me out) Vastly overpriced for what it offers. A real shame as it has hit the skids hard in the last couple of years. I can only blame the management of the overall complex. That this has a best Western name connected with it is the only reason it will get any bookings. I would avoid at all costs and yes they do have a rat problem. I don't like leaving bad reviews but as an ex repeat customer I can't in good concious let an innocent customer especially with young family be subjected to that. Absolute circus, ran by clowns

I have stayed here many times over the years, sometimes with family. I would not feel safe bringing my family here anymore. It's dirty, smells, I saw a rat outside. The worst thing is the people there, direct from the home office and funded by the tax payer.

Prepaid on the website. On arrival I was told that I had not paid. Credit card bills show that I had prepaid but the hotel will not refund my second payment. Car parking is £15. No food is available at night. Breakfast is what is available and not as per the Menu. Only 1 member of staff present who has to do all the jobs in running the hotel. Shower was operated by a bolt sticking out which took 10 minutes before tepid water arrived..

The room was clean and very comfortable. The shower is very nice and powerful. However, more importantly the staff were warm friendly and very helpful. I would return for that alone. Thank you to the staff who know what they are doing and made everything effortless.

We booked a double room for a night and on arrival was pleasantly surprised to be given a suite. Our expectations were not huge but we were happy. The room was huge with a very large bed 2 sofas a chaise longue a double shower (never seen one of them before ) and a jacuzzi bath. We tried out the bath and it was fab except after a while what looked like algae came out of the jets. My partner said the shower was amazing. Now we were given a bigger than expected room so I do not really want to complain except if someone was to actually book this room it did not come with a coffee machine or docking station as advertised and the TV did not work. But We did not mind. Only real issue for us was that the pillows were rock hard. FYI parking is not free and breakfast is £8.99 and check out is 11am which is great. All in all we are happy because we stayed in a bigger than expected room. The whole hotel is old and creaky but ok for somewhere to sleep for a night.

On arrival mid afternoon I found the tv in my room wasn’t working. After going out and returning around 4 hrs later it still wasn’t. I was given another room but…. guess what? The tv wasn’t working. I was basically told to like it or lump it, just “go to bed and go to sleep”. I asked to speak to a manager, which I did by phone. Despite no-one having checked the receptionist and manager both insisted it was working. Eventually a very resentful manager arrived still insisting it was working! We jointly made the trip to my room. It wasn’t working. The manager then climbed on a chair and wrestled roughly with the wall mounted tv. Eventually it started working. When I suggested an apology might be in order the manager threatened to call the police. I agreed that I was happy with that. This seemed to psyche her out. I then had to insist she called the police, in an effort to annoy the very angry manager. The police arrived and it was agreed I would leave the hotel but get a refund. It was a cold night sleeping in the car, but better than staying where I obviously wasn’t wanted. P.s. the 2 staff suggested that the hotel will close in a few weeks and they’re out of jobs. Maybe that explains everything!!?? P.p.s. No money has been returned to my account yet.

Firstly, I like this old hotel, it has some real character, the rooms are large and stylish but... A) the parking is now extra, and the advert should say so. B) the staff are clearly inexperienced - helpful yes - but you really shouldn't greet staff as 'mate' or bud,' it's just the wrong 2star tone. C) if the kitchen staff don't turn up to cook breakfast, yes a refund is great but 'sorry for the inconvenience,' is better. It shows you, as a member of staff are invested in the hotel. When there were issues with my rooms TV my room was instantly replaced to an equally stylish room, no issues with that kind of service. I don't blame the young staff, it's about leadership. I saw a review where someone complains about rats and beggers. City facts you're never far from a rat or poverty, you can't realistically blame a hotel that there's a rat in their car park or begging in front of their property, one is environmental and the other economical, and a police matter. (I've stayed in this hotel three times, it's always the same individual, and it's the same story every time, no one can lose their ticket that often) This is a 3 star hotel with memories of 4 stars, staff are helpful, friendly but inexperienced, lacking confidence and pride in their profession, leadership is needed and this could be easily turned around. But despite these issues I'd still rather stay here than a characterless travel lodge.

This is the strangest hotel I’ve ever been too. The extremes of good and bad are wide so here goes. Upon arrival I found out I had to pay £15 to park the car. That’s extortion and wrong with zero warning of this. The front of house and reception are shabby and the lady that checked me in was the most miserable person I have ever met. But! The other staff I encountered were really nice. The room, once in there was very nice. Huge bed and massive bathroom. All clean and functional. Breakfast was very good as well. The fact that the evening receptionist was so miserable and the car park being a rip off and not mentioned in the booking made it two stars and not three or four

Outdated rooms, broken furniture, the fridge was dirty, cobwebs in the bedroom and bathroom. The worst part is paying for parking. I spent over £20 for 2 nights spent at this hotel. Very disappointing as I’ve always known Great Northern Hotel to be one of the more prestigious hotels in Peterborough. Staff need hospitality training.

We stayed here 3 nights to see family. I should have read the reviews first. !? Very run down rooms, Breakfast staff( man) didn't smile, didn't have eggs on first morning ?? Very bare continental breakfast table !? Our 3 rd morning !! Wow.. lady had a full table/choice... Very lovely, Smiling... Even the food was better cooked on the Friday ( last morning).. A bit scary to go out after teatime! Lots of beggars . They asked for money... 😳. Peterborough is quite spaced out to get anywhere ! We were visiting family, so met them in Peterborough as a base... So we thought the hotel at the train station would be good !? Not really ! If their photos showed the real rooms, then we wouldn't have booked and paid £312... Their photos only seemed to show their Suites !! I feel for the money we paid, it's not worth the basic rooms with marked baths and dirty window sills..Some of the corridors looked nice with old looking wooden skirtings.... 😕😕 They advertised our room as Deluxe Twin ???? Nope !! Nowhere near deluxe !! Don't Waste Your Money !! Oh... And the cards to open the doors rarely work !! Also pulling the door shut didn't always lock the door !!??
