The Crown Hotel is perfectly located in the centre of Harrogate close to the many shops, bars and restaurants and just a few minutes walk from the Conference Centre. The hotel retains its historic architecture and pays homage to its heritage as a great town centre property. The Turkish Baths, Betty's Tea Rooms and the picturesque town centre with its antique stores, Victorian arcades and boutique shops - the Crown Hotel Harrogate is the perfect location for your stay. Whilst our central location means that parking on site is limited, parking at the hotel is charged at £12.00 per night, there are a number of parking areas close by and the reception team can offer directions. Guests are invited to drop off luggage at reception before parking.

The Crown Hotel boasts a central location favored by guests for exploring Harrogate, though the ambiance is seen as a mix of dated charm and neglect. While the rooms are praised for their size, they are often described as needing an update, with cleanliness levels and maintenance being a concern. Noise can be an issue, with disturbances from various sources. Service experiences vary, with reports of both friendly staff and instances of slow response. Despite comfortable beds, the value proposition is marred by extra parking fees and basic offerings. Amenities, including hot water, require attention.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis.
We liked the room, especially the idea of putting any recycling in a hessian bag rather than the bin. Plus, if you didn't get your room made up or the towels changed we both got a complementary drink at the bar.
Breakfast was good, fried eggs were made to order, all the other hot food was kept hot in containers.
I would recommend this hotel.

Hi, Thank you for your kind review, we hope you had a great stay with us, we are glad you liked the "Green Room" incentive, we are always looking for new ideas to help save energy and stop us from needlessly wasting linen, but also benefit the guest as well. We do hope you will return soon, Cheers, Dan

We have stayed at The Crown on numerous occasions . We arrived about 11.30 and were informed our room was ready which was great news, check in was pleasant and the staff member polite and chatty. The room was ok like other posts the rooms are a little tired. There were no glasses in the room only a mug ufor hot drinks which was strange as there are disposable cups, there was no maid service which we expected but there wasn't any toilet cleaning brush which we found strange. We had an evening meal included in our package and the choice was limited, vegetarians were catered for but unfortunately not for people who haven't a sweet tooth, my husband asked for cheese and biscuits to finish his meal and the waitress didn't think this would be a problem but went to check, on her return she informed us that the kitchen had said there was none in stock which is quite frankly unacceptable for a hotel of this size we were the only guests in the dining room, we appreciated that there were restrictions due to Covid but they offer cheese for a continental breakfast in the morning so was the chef just being lazy? Our break was good rather than average (There isn't a good option) we felt very safe and the staff who we met were very good. There have been many changes over the last few years you no longer have biscuits in your room we noticed that last December and there is no longer any black pudding on the breakfast not major issues but it is the little touches that make a difference.

Having booked a late deal to stay here, we are really pleased we did. We booked a suite, which was an extremely large room, full of character, yet clean and very comfortable.
The 2 extra heaters provided were welcome in the bedroom, as with the windows being quite old, I can imagine it gets a bit ‘nippy’ in the winter.
However, the large bed was really comfortable with a good sized, thick duvet.
The bathroom was really clean, as was the lounge room and a nice touch with an extra espresso machine and coffee’s foc also.
The welcome we received from all of the staff was friendly and efficient and anything we needed, they were happy to help.
It is in a great location, at the bottom of ‘town’, only minutes away from all of the local shops and restaurants.
Parking is available on site, although at £12 per night, a little steep, considering you’ve already paid good money for the room - saying that we did understand parking is premium in Harrogate and were happy to pay.

We’d certainly recommend the hotel for a nice break away, we didn’t try the food, so can’t comment, as we like to try the local restaurants as well.

The main selling point of the hotel is it’s central location, ideal for the town centre and Valley Gardens. We had reserved a parking spot as I am disabled, but it would help if somebody checked that other guests had parked within the bays, as I didn't have a designated blue badge bay and the ‘tank’ parked next to me had encroached into my space making it difficult to get out.

Check in was quick and straightforward, and our request for a reasonably accessible room had been actioned. Our room was quite large with comfortable bed and plenty of storage space, but definitely no view.

Included dinner credit was enough to get us two courses but not three. Food was good quality, in reasonable portions and served by pleasant attentive staff. Unobtrusive ambient music made for a pleasant atmosphere.

Breakfast was again good, and staff were willing to change the options offered on the menu if requested. Good strong coffee on the first day was regularly topped up by a young waiter on the first morning, but we had an individual pot on the second on our table.

The one negative was being awoken at 5am by the extractor fan from the kitchen outside the inner room windows. It was very noisy and continued to operate until 10pm when the silence was breathtaking. A quieter extractor or some new windows would have made it much more bearable.

Addition.

We also had an afternoon tea in the hotel which was served in the ballroom, with good window side tables to peruse the world as we ate. No need to queue for an age unlike another well known local establishment.

Tea was real leaf tea and not a teabag, and there were choices of other teas. The cakes and scones were very good but the whole thing could have been greatly improved by using better quality bread than just a standard brown sliced loaf. It would only have cost a few pence more to provide this. Extra tea was provided if requested.

This was our second visit to The Crown on a one night offer with bed, breakfast and evening meal included. Arrived to find the car parking spaces all full, as we did not realise you could book in advance, although we managed to park in the nearby car park for 24 hours for slightly less than the hotel charge of £12.00. The room we were given had recently been painted and smelled strongly of paint, so was unfit to sleep in. The management quickly responded to our request to move rooms. They could not upgrade us as they did not have rooms with twin beds available, so offered an alternative standard room and gave us free drinks with our meal.
The second room was basic but clean. The evening meal was of a very good quality and quantity and the servers were very pleasant and efficient.
The hotel overall is very grand, but could benefit from some refurb in some areas, but has plenary of charm. The buffet breakfast was ample and offered choice of freshly prepared foods on request.
The hotel is ideally situated to be able to walk into Harrogate centre for shopping, or visiting the conference centre.
I think the offers are a fantastic deal and would certainly visit again.

Despite making allowance for Covid restrictions which inevitably impacted the whole hotelier industry I think they did not capitalise on the closure period to make improvements.
1) Rooms offered had broken windows with no fresh air- government Covid advice is for plenty of fresh air.
2) Room bathrooms had faulty extractors allowing unnecessary and prolonged build up of steam.
3) Insufficient milk provided with complementary drinks package and no biscuits. As a comparison Hilton offer complementary home cookies to guests.
4) No safes provided for valuables other than the hotel corporate safe which usually is at manager’s discretion and normally incurs an extra fee.
5) No mini chillers provided for storage of food and drinks particularly on a hot day.
6) Breakfast service was poor- inattentive assistants and lack of basic courtesy. ‘Hot’ food and drink was lukewarm.
7) £12 parking fee should be incorporated into the overall hotel stay hence making a more attractive selling point.
8) Letter from hotel manager was apologetic but did not encourage a future stay by way of a voucher or discount other than usual corporate ‘we aim to get it right’ but thank you for your feedback.
The only good points were relatively comfortable beds and quiet for a good night’s sleep.

Overall they have definitely missed a trick here- the stay was satisfactory but could have been so much better if they had adopted basic and inexpensive maintenance and housekeeping standards.

Had a two night break here and everything was very clean and we felt very safe. The room was large with lovely fluffy towels (not very much toilet roll so had to ask for some more which wasn’t good) The breakfast was very nice and more toast and coffee was available if you asked. Very central for bars and restaurants and we will definitely return as it was very good value for money

On arrival we were checked in by friendly staff. the reception area was very grand in appearance, but when we got to our room it was spartan with only a bed and dressing table, the floors creaked with every step meaning if you went to the toilet in the night you couldn’t without waking anyone else in the room, no chair/s to sit on, no toilet cleaning equipment. No room service for 5 days with tea and coffees in 4 separate bags, if we required anything else we had to ask at reception. The service in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meals was very dysfunctional. Otherwise the staff themselves were very friendly and helpful.
We are aware all of the above was supposedly down to Covid 19 restrictions. But in another smaller hotel we stayed in afterwards in the same town there was a full room set up including chairs, room service and toilet cleaning equipment.

This was our first visit to The Crown Hotel & our first weekend in Harrogate, we weren’t disappointed, booked an executive double which was very clean & spacious, also an added bonus of robes & slippers which were very much appreciated for our relaxing weekend. You can also reserve a parking space in advance which is I’d recommend as Harrogate is very busy.
Staff on reception, bar & restaurant are very friendly & happy to help with any questions, breakfast was delicious as was our evening meal which very reasonably priced.
Hotel is in a central position and walking distance to shops & bars etc.
We would definitely stay again, thankyou Crown Hotel for a lovely weekend break & thankyou for the complimentary glass of fizz for our anniversary, very nice touch.

,
We stayed over on Sat 5th Feb, booked for our Valentines as I'm away with work week after, main reason was the good deal on the overnight plus evening meal voucher and late checkout.
Arrived OK, booked in to room number 142 and parked up,
Then tried to book a table for the evening meal to be told ALL tables booked and no times at all available, bearing in mind this was only 4pm.
We were quite disappointed with this and had to settle for a bar meal of chicken burgers and fries ( not what I had in mind)
The barman had stated that our £25 per person voucher would include our meal and beverages, we had one drink with the meal and went into town.
Next morning were awakened at 06.00am by a lot of banging and clashing from the room next door, which lasted for quite a while, we had been looking forward to a nice peaceful lie in. When we came out of the room after 9am,we noticed the room next door was actually the cleaners room, hence the major noise so early on. Totally spoilt out night.
Went to check out and was presented with a fill bill including the drinks from the previous night, I questioned this, slightly embarrassed as there were other guests behind me. The nice receptionist stated that the offer didn't include drinks, I reminded her that the barman had said they were. She removed the cost from the bill.
Overall, a disappointing visit to a hotel we had enjoyed in the past.
