Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stayed for a 4 night break in a disabled room. Clean with plenty of drawer space and a comfortable bed. The shower room was OK apart from the little black mould at the edge of the shower tray. The hotel is showing signs of its age and the services of a decorating contractor wouldn't go amiss. The staff are friendly but the waiter service was poor; a 10 minute wait to order. The food was usually overcooked, chewy beef and dry stringy chicken with the vegetables long past al dente. Being the first to breakfast one morning I was alarmed at the liquid state of scrambled eggs - they were only partially set. My greatest concern was the heat, or lack of it, in the public areas. I had to make a journey into town to buy some warmer clothing. I would not stay here again.

We booked a night and got worried after reading recent reviews!! We booked in with a lovely reception lady very polite. Found our room to find it very clean with a modern smart bathroom and a great shower. We went down for evening meal in restaurant and was pleasantly surprised all very nice. After a good nights sleep we went down for breakfast yet again all you could ask for a really nice meal finished with coffee. I would recommend this place to anyone we had a faultless visit

A large old hotel with a lot of character. Felt like going back in time. Clean and comfortable room. Would benefit from USB charging points. Bathroom a bit dated but bath was nice. Breakfast was OK. Staff were all very professional and pleasant. It must be quite a job keeping such a big building in good condition as there are parts which need some TLC. On the whole we had a good stay.

Been here before but not had a four poster bed. The hotel is dated but ideal for Harrogate centre and the Royal Hall 4 minutes walk. A rock concert at the Royal Hall was our evening entertainment so location for us was great. Breakfast is always good and the staff are great.

We stayed here on a Mystery Coach Trip with David Ogden Tours & we realised we had been here before in April 2013. The food was as excellent as before & especially the Aubergine Parmigiana (I am not a vegetarian but I love aubergines) & I praised Chris, the chef for it. The breakfasts we OK but I would have liked to have a machine that does the hot drinks because I would prefer hot chocolate & I liked the soft fried eggs even if other diners didn't. One meat item that was not on the menu was a lamb dish which I would have liked considering we passed millions of sheep getting there. We had room 236 which was a long walk from the lift, but I suppose someone has to do it. I also noticed that the hotel had just been redecorated (we could smell the paint & 'wet paint' notices were warning us of this) & it seems, by my April 2013 review it had just been redecorated so we may go back in 11 years to see it again. I must point out a negative fact that for all there was an anti-slip mat was provided there was no grab handle in the walk-in shower. We were only here for 2 nights so never walked into Harrogate because of the up hill walk to come back. I must also point out the expense of the drinks were even worse that before with wine at £15 a bottle in 2013 & is now £24 for a similar bottle.

Amazing room, service and food! Lovely stay away for a Christmas present! The staff were very efficient and very helpful and suggested any pubs/ bars to go to as we don’t know the area very well, large variety of food at breakfast to accommodate everyone, would highly recommend

This is a lovely hotel, staff are all very helpful and friendly. We were part of a large coach trip and I can honestly say this is one of the best hotels we have stayed at. Everything was organised, the food was extremely nice and very hot with 4 choices each course The rooms were basic but very comfortable. A great hotel, excellent food, great staff comfortable room. If ever back in harrorgate definitely will return.

Visited for one night to attend a concert at the theatre and chose this hotel as it offered the best price for a Saturday night and was in a location close to the town centre. Initially we were a bit concerned after reading some of the bad reviews but we had no complaints at all. Staff at check in were friendly and efficient, the room - while basic - was clean and comfortable, with everything you’d expect. A good breakfast was included in the price and despite being busy (there had been a function the night before) there were plenty of staff to keep things running smoothly. While not luxury, the hotel - with its air of slightly faded grandeur - certainly turned out to be far above the budget price we paid. Wished we’d booked to stay another night.

Good value for money.. we stayed one night and had a lovely time in Harrogate very close to the centre (about a ten minute walk). Hotel was clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was lovely. Would recommend spice culture if you are looking for a local curry house to eat 😊

Beautiful hotel full of grandeur of a bygone age. Very close to town. The restaurant/breakfast room is just amazing. Room comfy and clean with modern facilities. Very friendly helpful staff, especially Anthony who I chatted to in the duchy room when I was nosing about.
