Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Booked for a special birthday with our dog. Room was great but service very poor. Big wait for service for dinner and breakfast, served in the bar. Not told we couldn’t eat in restaurant until we arrived at the restaurant and dismissively redirected. Dinner when it arrived was lovely but breakfast 2nd rate compared to other hotels. Definitely wouldn’t come again with our dog. At one point the receptionist suggested we leave our dog in our car if we wanted to eat in the restaurant!!

I and 43 others were on a holiday in Harrogate and stayed here. I would say that in my opinion and experience, it is an average hotel, the staff are very friendly and helpful. But there were several issues. My room was okay-ish but slept very well, others did not due to heating issues. Someone's TV wouldn't work and apart from my phone via data, I couldn't get the internet on WiFi. The food on the first night was dire as it was not what was advertised ie pork loin and red wine just on the menu, what was served was a pork loin with semi-cooked, still part solid vegetables and thin cafe gravy. The second night's food was better. But with subsidence in the corridors, I think there needs to be a massive refurb.

Nice hotel in it's day, I'm sure. Unfortunately they let themselves down the way they manage it. 1. Parking. They charge £10 per night! Why? Car Park was empty on arrival. We wanted to spend most of the following day in Harrogate only to be told we must vacate the car park by noon. Despite it being empty. Crazy. 2. Cleaning not up to expectations. Restaurant ceiling covered in cobwebs. Dusty in high up places in bedroom. At breakfast waiter sprays cleaning product on next table less than five feet away while we are still eating! A pet hate of mine. 3. Breakfast was good.

I'm sure this hotel was lovely in it's day. Plus it's famous for the place that Agatha Christie escaped to. The hotel is badly let down by the service. Hopefully this doesn't reflect on all staff members. But the service I received today was possibly the worst I've had in a hotel. I went to the bar and ordered a tea and coffee. These come with complimentary shortbread. I waited at the bar whilst my drinks were made (no offer to serve them to my table). I want offered shortbread (as stated on the menu). I asked the female member of staff for the shortbread. Her answer was that the chefs haven't made any and it's not her job to get the chefs to make some more. To add insult to injury there is a sign on the bar stating that a service charge is automatically added to the bill. I did receive service. Unfortunately it was abysmal. If you work in hospitality you should know how to interact with guests and aim to provide exceptional customer service. Shocking service.

Fantastic hotel. Excellent staff especially David Ritson and Regan on reception. David and Regan went out if their way to assist me and made me feel very welcome. Excellent suite with separate dining area. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Anita in the restaurant looked after me and Uzair on reception was also very helpful. In my view this is the best hotel in Harrogate and I will definitely return.

I can totally recommend this lovely hotel. The staff were friendly and efficient. The cleaning staff went the extra mile with special little touches. The food was delicious. The location was central so easy to walk everywhere. All in all an excellent place to stay

I visited over the weekend with a group of female friends. on arrival everything was lovely we were booked for 1 night BB and evening meal, the rooms were great, although very very hot! the food was good for both evening and breakfast, although no smoked salmon to go with the scrambled eggs. Going to use the toilets by the main entrance we noticed a sign telling us not to worry about change as a service charge would be added onto our bill? at reception we also noticed a much smaller notice telling us the same. When we received our bills we noticed that instead of 1 charge of 10% as is the norm, there were several charges each different to the other added onto our bills but not at the end of the total amount. On questioning this charge which in total was over £36 we were told that this could not be taken off, ( I was under the impression a service charge was not compulsory?) We took the bills to check them and on checking out we stated that we were not paying this additional cost, the manager, who then told me that he would add a comment to our account re this incident that we did not want to pay it, so if we came again it would be on there, (GDPR not allowed??!!!) he stated that if we signed for anything once at the hotel then it clearly states in the small print a service charge would be added on???? | didn't sign anything? he then questioned the service and was I not happy with it??? ( I was under the impression that if you ordered extra veg that is part of the service and you should not have to pay a service charge on it......PLEASE BE AWARE AND CHECK YOUR BILL ON DEPARTURE, EVENTUALLY IT WAS TAKEN OFF THE BILL

One night stay with a murder mystery afternoon tea. Very enjoyable stay, nice hotel and staff. Standard room, clean etc. close to town centre. Impressed with extras on breakfast menu, had eggs Benedict and really enjoyed it. Would recommend

The hotel was nice and in a good location and the staff were pleasant. We had room 138 and i do have to say that the bed was the worst that I have ever slept in. I would liken it to an air mattress that has lost its air, it was also on wheels so moved around. I suffer with minor back issues and the mattress did not help with this. The room was nice enough and clean but was very hot and there was no way to turn down the temperature. It was a nice relaxed weekend but I was glad to return home to my own comfortable bed. There is a £10 charge to park on the ground which was really reasonable and its a nice walk into the Town Center where there are plenty of pubs and restaurants.
