Stopped off for a pint (or two) of Black Sheep during a walk with friends. The beer was great, people friendly and views just stunning. Well worth stopping off if you are in the area - this won't be my last visit!

We popped in today after a 30 mile cycle ride for lunch prior to tackling Le Tour de Yorkshire hill and route back to Masham. Such a stunning area and the service was really friendly, efficient and attentive. The food was great and local beers well kept.(not professional cyclists ! ) we then came to pay and discovered they don't...

Never stayed anywhere as friendly as this. Malcolm and Caroline and all the staff are great. The rooms are very comfortable and all have wonderful views. The food is excellent. The locals all chat and make you feel welcome. Even the dog enjoyed his stay.Looking forward to returning. Thanks again Ann and David Hayes York

There's a little test which tells you much about a pub and the way it is run... Actually, there are two. Test One...enter the bar and see how people and bar staff react to you. Does everyone go silent or do you get welcomed or even acknowledged? If it's the former, I might just walk out as I don't want...

Perfect in every way great atmosphere great landlord and staff make you very welcome. Very dog friendly good food selection served well. Always a warm welcome and fires in the cold weather. We have not stayed at The Crown but when talking to others who have all say its a very good stay.

Highly recommended local pub after strolling through the dales. Delicious food, friendly (even to Londoners ordering halves of shandy) and very cosy! The lamb chops and casserole are especially recommended. Some good local bitter on tap too.

Recently home from another October half-term week in the cottage belonging to Malcolm and Caroline from the Crown Hotel. It was just as fantastic as last year - cosy, comfortable and exactly what we were wanting in terms of peace and quiet. Seriously, it's a perfect little gem, and we are already looking forward to another visit sometime soon. The...

One Night Stay to experience North Yorkshire shooting on the Moors. It does not get better than this for true Yorkshire Hospitality in a Yorkshire Inn in a small village. This is not a luxury establishment but a value for money Inn with proper Pub and locally sourced food - Grouse, Partridge and Pheasant on the Menu. Malcolm, his family...

I've been here for a lunchtime drink on half a dozen occasions over the last year - and have enjoyed every visit. Middlesmoor is well worth a little detour for its beautiful view of Gouthwaite Reservoir and the surrounding dales. And after admiring the view, where better to repair to than the Crown Inn, the only pub in the village....

We were staying with friends in a cottage near the Crown Hotel walking the Nidderdale Way. From the very first drink we knew that the Crown was a "gem". The welcome by the landlord Malcolm, staff and locals was just great. Malcolm tries to come across as the grumpy Yorkshire landlord but failed miserably. The banter was friendly and funny...
