We were disappointed with our stay at Alvera Court. Firstly we had booked through booking.com where we were told that breakfast was included for the price. However, on arrival we were told that breakfast was not included and not available. Secondly, both our beds were also uncomfortable with foam chunks placed upon mattresses and led to sore backs. The heating also seemed rather frugal. The location, however, was good and the room spacious, and the bathroom though very small was functional.
Patricia the host is lovely, very sweet. There is off road free parking which is good. Very central easy walk to exhibition centre and shops. However, we thought the breakfast at £10 was too expensive. We had room 5 and the bed was horrendous, there was a mattress on a mattress so no support at all resulting in a very poor nights sleep. Also only demerara (brown) sugar available despite asking for tea. Great TV though and lovely furnishings except for the random pictures eg of a Pharaoh, African fishermen!
We booked at the last minute and were welcomed warmly by a charming and helpful young man. Nothing was too much trouble. The room (11) was bright and airy, the beds were comfortable and the tea tray well stocked. The en-suite was a bit on the small side but perfectly functional.
My wife and I were looking for an affordable B&B close to the centre of Harrogate. The Alvera Court is an older building but has been nicely decorated and appointed. The famous "Betty,s Restaurant" was only 15 minutes walk away. We parked in the small car park at the rear and were promptly checked in. Our bedroom was very quiet at night being on the second floor and at the rear of the building. The room was bigger than you normally would expect in a B&B, and had good tea and coffee making facilities and more than adequate chests of draws, desk, and walk in wardrobe. The en suite bathroom was exceptionally clean. We did not have the optional breakfast (for £10) preferring to eat out at one of the many local cafes that serve breakfast. We stayed two nights and enjoyed our visit.
We shared a triple room which was ok. Clean and fairly spacious. But the en suite shower was quite poor...one of those where it seems to take ages to get wet because the pressure is so low. Also, maybe it was our fault for not reading the smallprint, but we booked this bed and breakfast through Booking.com and it turned out the price you pay was just for the room and we were told on arrival that it was £10 each for breakfast. We said no because we didn't feel the total price would be good value and instead went to a Wetherspoon just up the road for half the cost. Also, the internet in the room wasn't brilliant, but as it was only one night it didn't bother us too much.
