Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked a stay at The White Hart hotel for a short break for mine and my partner’s birthdays. I’m sorry to say it was a total disappointment. Be careful, as this hotel is not as advertised. On arrival, you are presented with a beautiful building just as the adverts show. However, once you have checked in and paid (as they make you pay before you have actually stayed), you are told that you are not actually staying at the hotel you have just paid for! You are then told to walk down the street to another building! The rooms here are very basic, and I've seen better in a Travelodge. Some of these rooms don’t even have an en-suite! Luckily, ours did. The room was in poor condition, with a drawer dropping to pieces, marks all over the bathroom ceiling, marks on the towels, and the main carpet was dirty. It was certainly not the 4-star hotel I thought I had booked. For us to stay in a separate building and to have to walk in the rain to use any of the facilities in the actual hotel was not what I had expected. This hotel does not reserve anything for residents - not the restaurant, not a table in the bar, nothing at all, not even a space in the car park. If you do manage to get a spot, it’s £15 per night, and you still have to walk down the street to another hotel. You might as well stay in a B&B and walk in to use the facilities. If you’re looking for a peaceful and relaxing time, this is not the place for you. You can hear everything in these rooms; the walls must be made of paper. You hear every time someone opens a door or turns on a tap or shower. You are constantly disturbed by the doors slamming; we had very little sleep over the 2 nights. Breakfast was the worst I have ever had in any hotel. The plates were not clean; I had to pick up 3 to find a clean one. The food is left uncovered. Sausages were average, bacon was extremely fatty, scrambled eggs were just slop, black pudding was barely cooked, hash browns were so small (about the size of a 10p coin), and the fried eggs were so overcooked and rubbery we ended up leaving them. The only hot thing I got with my breakfast was the coffee. We were barely finished with our coffee when we were asked to leave the restaurant. I’m not sure where they wanted us to go. There is no lounge area; the bar was not open, so our options were to walk around in the rain or go back to our Travelodge-like room! I have never before stayed in a hotel where you are made to feel unwelcome and in the way. It’s as if they want your money but don’t want the inconvenience of you actually staying. So, if you want to be duped into buying a stay in a hotel that you’re not actually going to stay at, this is the place for you. All in all, I feel ripped off, and I’m sure it borders on false advertising. This is definitely one to avoid."

Hotel's Favourite
We have stayed at the White Hart several times and find it outstanding in terms of what they deliver. They never make promises that they cannot meet and the staff are always, always, helpful and polite. This is rare nowadays: Problems are there to be solved not used as excuses for shortcomings. The location is ideal, the prices are good, booking is simple and there is never any onerous admin or messing about. Everybody seems well-trained and switched on in their roles. The Fat Badger, the in-house bar, is by far the best pub in Harrogate. The food is simple but of good quality and the service at the bar is always swift, efficient, friendly and accurate. The evidence is plain to see: It is always busy and it can be difficult to get a table in the beer garden at peak times. I would recommend the White Hart and the Fat Badger to anyone.

Response from Fran Patrick , Guest Services / Front Office at White Hart Hotel, BW Premier Collection
Responded 10 Sept 2022
Thank you for taking your time to write this review We are very grateful for your kind words and 5 stars. It is great to see that you have enjoyed your stay at The White Hart Hotel and also The Fat Badger! The staff all work extremely hard to make sure that all of our guests are made to feel welcome and they try there hardest to make sure all requests are met. The Fat Badger is known for being one of the busiest and best pubs in Harrogate so its wonderful to see that you managed to have the Fat Badger experience. The hotel and pub is located in a prime location for Harrogate. A stones throw away from the town centre and all the pubs, restaurants and shops We hope to see you again in the future. When you would like to rebook please contact us directly for the best rates via email - reservations@whiteharthotelharrogate.com or via phone - 01423 505681

Always my go-to place when I stay in Harrogate. The hotel has verything I need uner one roof, although it is in a superb location to enjoy all of the centre of Harrogate within walking distance. Very good value for money, great food and bar at The Fat Badger.

This is a very attractive, well maintained Hotel. A good atmosphere in the public areas. Our room was clean, warm and a comfortable bed. No noise from other guests. It was busy but check in was quick. Downside .. some of the younger female staff members (not all) were quite indifferent. Okay it was very busy. However a young 'Lady' staff member rolling her eyes because a young member of our Party got a bit confused with the Lift sensor button was Rude! I was not there or I would have said something! Harrogate town is lovely and all the people we met were friendly and helpful. We would visit the Town again.

Ideal location and very welcoming frontage and reception. Staff were excellent - knowledgeable and friendly, very helpful. Restaurant was really good (ate there both nights) and breakfast buffet was great too. Room was excellent, nice and warm on arrival (entire hotel was comfortably warm) and very clean and tidy. Four stars given because the only “down side” was the parking - £15 per day just a bit steep. Would return though - very good hotel!

What a lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Booked 2 nights for my wife's 50th birthday surprise, requested a photo of her favourite band, Westlife, in the room and they outdid themselves and put 2 photos in the room, thank you again. Had a meal in the Fatbadger, wow, they steak just melted in your mouth, compliments to the chef. The wife was also given a complimentary glass of prosecco. Breakfast on Saturday was perfect but on Sunday we had to que for breakfast probably due to the hotel been full. The hotel is located in the centre of Harrogate and perfect for exploring the town and Christmas markets. Overall the hotel gave us a perfect stay and would definitely recommend and be returning. A big thank you to ALL staff and chef's.

We booked a suite for a celebratory wedding anniversary occasion. Room was lovely with a separate lounge. We have stayed in a junior suite on one occasion before in another hotel and had a small fridge in the living room which would have been welcome on this occasion but this facility not available. Room very comfortable, shower was a waterfall shower, flow not fabulous but an old building so to be expected. Staff friendly and efficient, hotel very atmospheric - would have liked a 'history of the building' in our room to be fair as we tend to opt for older buildings with a history but nothing to tell us the history of this building. Fabulous situation for visiting the town, we parked (easily) in the hotel car park (chargeable at £15 per day) and walked into the town - all of about 2 minutes so absolutely perfect. Breakfast was really lovely, great produce, replenished straight away when needed - a real positive. Wifi intermittent on third floor. Upper communal floor looks like needs a little investment as roof panel/skylight directly above waiting area for the lift on the 3rd floor cracked, while we were there there appeared to be water dripping by one of the ceiling lights in the hallway (alerted staff who quickly put a bucket etc in situ and I assume started the ball rolling for investigating the cause). Despite these observations, the building is beautiful, atmospheric and we really enjoyed our stay. We would book again if visiting Harrogate again.
