Enjoy a quiet suburban stay, in brand new lodge accommodation. If you’re looking for great hotels near Derby, the Blue Jay in picturesque Alvaston is perfect. Perfect for families, we have a selection of 38 en suite rooms and all sorts of fun to keep the kids occupied; they can take their pick of indoor and outdoor play areas, games and even their own menu. The grown-ups can relax, whilst the children are entertained. Sleep soundly in a kingsize Hypnos bed, on the Beaumont mattress, which is filled with a wool-silk mix and has a surface which regulates your body’s temperature. All of our guests can enjoy free wi-fi, en suite rooms and digital television. Our delicious carvery sits alongside a variety of pub classics and consists of three meats, cooked to perfection, golden Yorkshire puds, stuffing, gravy and seasonal veg. If you have room for pudding, the choice is just as varied. Find a great wine selection, as well as a range of soft drinks and spirits. We boast an excellent selection of cask ales, from Marston’s five breweries. You’re not far from some brilliant attractions, at the Blue Jay. Explore a limestone gorge or catch a match at Derby Football Stadium. Take in the picturesque surroundings of Locko Park. If you’re a thrill seeker, head to nearby Alton Towers.

We stayed in the hotel as a family of 4 (kids aged 4 and 7) in room 105. The staff were friendly and check in was easy. The room was nice and spacious, and what were advertised as ‘sofa beds’ seemed no different to normal beds - very comfortable. Good location if you’re driving, and a pub and McDonald’s on the hotel doorstep. But overall we were unimpressed. There were dead flies on the windowsill and one on the bed, and a brown stain on one of the bedsheets, when we got into the room. The bathroom had a distinct ‘wet dog’ smell, and a loose toilet seat. But worst of all, being in room 105 - just ahead of the main entrance - meant the room was incredibly noisy. Additionally, every time someone opened the entrance door or a room door nearby, it sounded like someone was trying to open our door - to the extent that my wife put a chair up against the door as she was convinced people were trying to break in!

We stayed for a weekend to visit to Derby. Absolutely loved our stay. The facilities were clean and very modern. The meal deal that was offered with the room was a reasonable price and so was the price of the room. I am looking forward to staying in this hotel again. It is worth a visit.

The whole experience of a one-night stay at The Blue jay was outstanding. Easy on-line reservation, speedy check-in, clean and functional accommodation, high-quality breakfast with fast and friendly service, and overall excellent value-for-money. I can thoroughly recommend The Blue Jay which is conveniently located on the A511 Derby ring road. A tip when reserving a room - request the quiet side, not the Macdonalds (open 24 hours) side to ensure a good nights sleep!

My husband bought this hotel stay for a gift. It was called a spa break but I would not call this hotel a spa hotel. It has a great pool, steam room and sauna but there aren't many loungers (the ones they have are very comfortable) and are so close to the poolside that if you go when children are allowed in you will get bombed by children. Unfortunately when we stayed there were 2 children chasing around the edge of the pool, jumping in over and over and the parents ignored them (no running signs...no jumping signs ignored). The gym was very adequate and due to the package a treatment was included. The relaxation area is lovely much better than pool side. My facial was nice but the therapist decided to talk at me non stop which was annoying as I'd gone for peace. Dinner and breakfast was also included. Staff were courteous and helpful. The food was fresh and tasty. We opted for one of the breakfast from the freshly prepared menu and it was delicious. Parking was £7 for 24 hours and staff told us we could stay longer when we checked out at 11am. It's a short walk to Stratford so perfect as a base for exploring or shopping.

We stayed for a couple of nights and I must say what incredible staff they have (especially Adam who was working around the clock) We ate at the restaurant twice and both meals were superb and really good value! I really hope the company recognise how hard they worked as they are a credit to Marstons.
