Travellers' Choice
We completely refurbished the Stables in 2017 and the main house in 2020. Be aware that some of the older traveller pictures are therefore out of date as the rooms have changed completely. Our revamped bed and breakfast is 1 mile from Derby city centre. We are within walking distance of the West Mill wedding venue and close to the delightful Darley Park, which is perfect for dog walks. We offer a warm welcome, comfortable surroundings and a freshly prepared breakfast of your choice. We have 3 bedrooms upstairs in the main house and a further 3 in the original stable block in the garden, each has an eclectic mix of old and new, with hand picked quirky accessories to make guests smile. All rooms have TVs, good connection to wi-fi, generous hospitality trays, hairdryers and toiletries. We allow pets to to stay in all but one of our rooms (room 7).

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful house. Decor was tastefully done. Spotlessly clean. A comfortable nights sleep in a cosy warm room. There was a choice of breakfasts. Full English was lovely. The host was welcoming and friendly. If I were to visit this area again, The Coach House would be my ‘Go to’ Guest House 😊

I stayed in a large and beautiful room. Full of character. The breakfasts were the best I have had for years, perfectly cooked. The owner and staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Lovely details, including a radio in the room.

We booked our stay for two rooms and were delighted to be met on arrival. The welcome was charming and we were immediately made to feel at ease and happy. Information sheets were given to each of us and a booklet found in the room detailed everything you could possibly need during your stay. The WiFi was fine and the honesty bar downstairs was stacked with plenty of booze and soft drinks and crisps and chocolate!! The bedrooms were so comfortable plenty of hot water and a wonderful shower! The full English Breakfast in the morning was amazing, beautifully cooked and served with a smile and buckets of coffee and tea. All in all it was a very very satisfactory stay. In the 3 years I have been going to Derby to stay regularly by far the best. Way way better than the Hotels and I have tried most of them!

This is a lovely place to stay. The decor has a wealth of character and house is well maintained. The facilities are great and the rooms are kept clean. We were warmly welcomed by Zoe and Rob. They looked after us and the breakfast was great, with a range of choices...everything was fresh that day. Highly recommend staying.

This is a really special guest house. Quirky and personal but also really comfortable. I booked because it was close to West Mill for a wedding - unfortunately the weather made walking there less of a practical option but staff were really helpful with taxi's and there's lots of local info. The breakfast was just fabulous, and I was treated with helpfulness at all times.

We couldn’t have asked for more. Some of our family stayed over and we took advantage of the private dining. Food was tasty, abundant and reasonably priced. Staff were incredibly helpful, a beautiful setting for a special occasion. We were able to decorate an already beautiful and quirky room.

It was coming up to my sister’s 60th birthday and as a special treat I decided to book a wine tasting experience at Darley Abbey Wines along with a stay at The Coach House, just around the corner from the vineyard. I had read about the hotel and it sounded and looked absolutely stunning with great reviews. I phoned the Coach House and arranged for a gift voucher to be sent out to me. When it arrived I was surprised to see that the voucher had been put into a normal envelope and duly arrived looking worse for the journey down to me. The edges were crumpled and in no way seemed to represent the hotel I had read so much about. Not a great start but I contacted the hotel to ask for a replacement and an understanding and apologetic Zoe kindly sent a replacement in a more robust envelope to prevent a recurrence., My sister, thrilled by the gift, booked an evening at the hotel which would tie in with a visit to the vinery. I was shocked to get a phone call from my sister on the day of her getaway to hear that whilst she had had a great time at the vinery she and her husband had turned up at the hotel to be told by a young woman at reception that they had no booking for them and that the hotel was fully booked. She was in tears as she and her husband had to make their way back home. My sister’s day had been marred by an incompetent booking system and a receptionist who clearly didn’t give a damn about the mix up and who refused to put me in touch with any management team member when I made a hasty phone call to try to retrieve the situation. Zoe, some time later, once my sister had made it back home, said that, had she been there - she wasn’t - she would have offered to pay for a hotel room elsewhere in the village. What a shame that they had such an unhelpful individual on reception that day. I was consequently refunded and, as a way of apology, Zoe, once again, was left to try to clear up the misunderstanding by sending my sister a bunch of flowers. It was of course too little, too late, as my sister’s intended perfect break had been ruined. I’m sure this is, indeed, a lovely hotel and I read that the staff are excellent - but that most certainly has not been the case here. My advice to any would-be buyer of gift vouchers, which are clearly advertised on the website, is DON’T. It obviously throws the whole system into disarray and a bunch of flowers does not compensate for the awful service we have experienced.
