Nice modern hotel close to the railway station. About a 10 - 15 minute walk from the centre of town (in high heels after a night out, probably about 7 minutes if you are wearing sensible shoes). On the plus side quite a few late night takeaways on route. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were pleasant and helpful. I would definately stay here again if I was going out in Derby.

This was a last minute booking for one night in Derby.
The hotel is clean with comfortable spacious double rooms and en suite bathroom. Toiletries, towels, linen, tea & coffee etc provided.
Friendly staff, comfortable bed, warm and quiet.
Approx 500m from the train station and 10 mins walk into city centre where there are many restaurants, shops, clubs, bars etc.
Free parking at the hotel.
We didn't use the restaurant so I can't comment on that but there are several restaurants within metres of the hotel.
Lift available and ice machines on each floor.

We stayed over in Derby for a birthday do meeting friends (who weren't staying at this hotel). First impressions of the hotel are very good but the welcome from the receptionist wasn't so wonderful! She failed to smile, charged us the wrong amount for the room, which wasn't even changed with a 'sorry' and gave out a distinct 'wish I wasn't here, can't be bothered' attitude. The 'non-smoking' room we were given was quickly refused as it absolutely stunk of cigarette smoke. The next room was fine, clean and comfortable and quite spacious. A good deal at £55 we felt. Because of the quite unfriendly and miserable staff, we decided not to eat breakfast at the hotel (charged at £8.75 per person) and instead walked to Weatherspoons where you can have a full breakfast for £2-4 each (and the staff are happy!).

I consider myself lucky that this was a visit that meant I wasn’t in the hotel for too much time, we were there for a weekend event at the Hallmark Hotel and had stayed here last year too. The hotel has gone downhill considerably since 2019.

We arrived to be told the room had been cleaned, it hadn’t so had to lug all our stuff back down to reception so that housekeeping could do their job. Thankfully a member of the reception team came to give us a hand.

The room was okay, but I certainly don’t think it had had a deep clean in the last year, the dust build up above the mirror in the bathroom made my stomach turn.

The sofa had rather a lot of stains on it and was very small, but at least there was one.

The bed was horrendous. Everytime I turned over the whole thing moved, it was bouncier than a trampoline.

When we arrived back at the hotel on the Saturday afternoon we thought it hadn’t been cleaned as there bed was still unmade, but then we realised that there were fresh towels. I have NEVER stayed in a hotel where the beds not been made.

I didn’t complain because frankly I didn’t want to go back downstairs, there were a lot of young men hanging around the reception areas and in the corridors and the car park. It was actually quite unnerving walking around the hotel, I completely understand that these chaps had rooms but they gave the place a real feel of a “hostel” not a hotel.

In addition the lift was so slow I took the stairs as it was quicker.

I am glad I never have to stay here again.

It is very difficult 961maiar when you are given the choice to book to stay in a budget metro hotel and the rest of your party are staying in more luxurious surroundings where the event is actually taking place. It is unfortunate too for you that this hotel is 100% full of a group of mainly men and young families, when principally you are attending a female event which I am sure possibly made you feel quite isolated at this location. The other hotel too was 100% full and due to the complexities to room types it was not possible to room move you which the organiser was aware of.We were asked to keep you and your colleagues together and it is no surprise they have also recorded identical feelings to yourself. I do not agree with your comments regarding cleanliness, albeit the hotel may show signs of wear and tear due to very high occupancies year round. The manager is well known to many in your party and I am sorry you did not take the opportunity to speak to him. I am not sure if this event is taking place next year but if you are attending the summer party we will try and ensure you are not staying at the Inn. Please accept my apologies for not meeting your expectations on this occasion.

I stayed here two nights whilst attending an event at their 4* across the road. The hotel stank of stale smoke and unwashed bodies as soon as we entered, and the room was worse. The paper was peeling off the walls, hair in the bathroom, dirt under the fixtures and fittings, filthy upholstery. Reception was mostly unmanned and I had to shout for service. The breakfast room in the 3* also stank. I complained to the 4* reception in person, and was told a manager would call about a 4* room, but didn’t. I then tried complaining over the phone but the manager refused to communicate with me. The breakfast at the 4* was badly serviced, the waiter got annoyed at needing to get us cutlery and coffee. AVOID STAYING HERE and avoid large functions at the 4*!

I stayed in the European essentially because I suddenly found myself ending up in Derby one Saturday night; the first hotel I thought of was full, as was the first one they recommended. The European was therefore not a hotel I chose, but I could not have been more pleasantly surprised.

The general layout is in essence a pretty straightforward and 'average' modern(ish) 3-star(ish) place - but the way it seems to be run and above all the friendly attitude of the staff put this hotel far above the average.

I arrived to find that the lady who had taken my reservation had evidently taken pity on my lack of access to the internet and decided to give me the substantially cheaper special offer rate which is supposed to be available only on-line (the rate was £50 room only, very reasonable I thought).

I only arrived at around midnight, and only the night-porter was available. This was however no problem, as he was pleasant and highly competent. Above all, I had a sudden minor emergency in that my mobile 'phone was dying through lack of charge, and I'd forgotten my charger (I had to travel for 2 more days on business). Amazingly (at half past midnight on a Saturday night), said night-porter spent some time immediately searching through the hotel's accessory stores, only to come up with the required Nokia charger, which I was able to purchase remarkably cheaply.

This hotel is immediately beside the railway station and pretty much in the town centre - highly convenient, but I'd expected that noise may be an issue so requested a quiet room. Here again they clearly made the effort (the hotel was far from empty), as the room I was given was so well located that I could sleep with the window wide open with no noise disturbance.

The room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed (for the money and class of hotel), and the breakfast, while not particularly cheap (approx. GB£8 if I remember correctly) was of a very high standard (and they did not whinge that I was a couple of minutes late on Sunday morning and wanted a cooked breakfast!).

All in all, a very pleasurable experience, and I'd strongly recommend this place.

Me & my wife stayed here for 2 nights using it as a combined St Leger race meeting(Doncaster Racecourse) and friends/family visit as I was brought up in the Derby area.
We arrived 1pm ish on friday and were greeted by a very friendly receptionist who was able to book us in ahead of the 2pm scheduled book in time, even changing our room allocation to do this. The hotel is 5-10 minutes walk away from Westfields shopping centre where we spent friday afternoon. But the real benefit was being yards from the railway station which allowed us to travel to the St Leger meeting and drink without the worry of drink/driving. The hotel was superb and real value for money, the car park was of decent size, the reception area neat and tidy and bedroom homely (unlike some hotels) with nice furniture, a lovely tv with perfect reception, coffee making facitlites and a very clean room. The only negative and this was no fault of the hotel was some roudy other guests who talked loudly whilst returning to their rooms at 2am saturday morning. We would definitely return to this hotel especially if we needed to travel using the train from Derby.

Dismal hotel. Incomparable to the Hallmark hotel across the road. My room had a broken toilet roll holder, so no attempt was made to fix it. Roll was just placed elsewhere.
Everything about this place just screamed rehabilitation or hostel. It just isn't fit for today's paying guests.
If anyone from the hotel disagrees, go spend the equivalent £70 in any large city and just see the comparison. Any premier inn would likely blow this away.

The room and facilities in the room were fine although th bedding and shower could have been seriously improved. However, the offhand and unhelpful attitude of staff was most off-putting as well as some of the other guests who were shouting, swearing, spitting, and slobbering over each other. A pity, because the location is good. I had actually thought I had booked into the Hallmark Hotel where also the receptionist was zombie-like in her reaction to clients. I had spent a few hours at the Hallmark Hotel earlier in the week, found the food to be poor and the whole place very dirty, both inside and out.
