Wood panelling, 4 poster beds, tasseled lamp shades... the Georgian House is a lot of vintage fun. We imagined ourselves to be in an Agatha Christie novel. The full English breakfast was very good. The staff were very thoughtful in putting us with baby in the quietest room, and returning the comforter we left.

We managed to secure a last minute stay at the Georgian House Hotel this weekend. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. The building is beautful with a really quirky mix of decor, original wood paneling, sweeping grand staircase and narrow corridors we didn't sample pizza cooked in the hotel's pizzeria or the breakfast. The room standard was good. We shared a family room with a four poster bed and twin beds, clean bathroom and ok shower. Overall, it's a cool place only a short walk from town centre, on site parking and lots of amenities.

The Geiorgian house is very centrally located in Derby this can often save money on the taxi fare if going out at night.
The reception area and lounge look great with the log fire, chandeliers and comfy chairs.
Breakfast is served in this area and is very good value at £8 for a cooked meal.
The new management Clare and Ray are very hard working having a big job to renovate the hotel as it is a period property and therefore the restoration will take time.
The room we stayed in with the four poster bed was clean and we slept well. A hospitality tray, fan and bottled waters were included in the very competitive price of £54 I needed an iron and hairdryer and the staff did everything they could to rush it up to my room as we dined in the bar downstairs. Thanks guys for this it made me realise that genuine kindness is really what makes a business. I wish them well with this hotel,as it has great potential.
All in all we enjoyed our stay and look forward to retur

We stayed here for one night, i paid extra for a 4 poster room. Because of other reviews i was thinking this would be a good stay, unfortunately it wasn't. We had came to meet my son and daughter in law who is about to study at Derby uni and this was a short walk from where they live.

I'll start with the good points:

One of the staff members seemed friendly, the location is an easy walk to the town.
The general decor and furnishes are nice in the public main areas and the bed although very squeaky was nice in our room.

Bad points:

Staff seemed unclear that we had already paid as we used booking.com (we had paid and they realised eventually). My partner opened the cupboard in the room and there was a left over bag of chips in there, we also found a hair bobble and clip left from previous residents.
Our room backed onto the pizza restaurant. Literally, and this meant the room had no window as the window opened into the restaurant, it also meant it was not very private and we could hear people talking outside our room by the window, the room has wooden shutters which we closed but this meant no natural light and the room is very dark. The fact this room looked into the restaurant and looked over a couple of tables was not clear at all on the booking and i assumed especially as i paid a bit extra that we would have privacy, it was not relaxing laying on the bed watching people through the restaurant.

The shower did not have hot water, it was a basic shower with two dials on, we tried everything and still no hot water although the sink had hot water. This meant both of us had to have a cold shower. There was a smell of stale smoke in the bathroom. At night the room was hot, obviously we could not open the window as this backed onto the restaurant and therefore people could have seen into the room, this meant it was too hot to sleep well and we had no privacy.

Wifi did not work for me atall during our stay, my partners phone was up and down when using this.

The next morning we went to ask about breakfast and staff were surprised and asked if we had booked a time - we were not asked to book a time on arrival even though our invoice clearly stated we paid for breakfast, however the staff were quick to make sure we had breakfast and resolved this, customer service at this point was good.

Overall we are disappointed as from reading previous reviews thought we'd found a good place to regularly stay in when visiting my son and daughter in law, however sadly we won't return here due to the uncleanliness, the non-functioning shower, the fact the room is not private unless you decide to stay in the dark and have no air and even then you would be easily heard as diners are sitting outside your window. Such a shame as the building itself seems nice.

We had a marvellous stay and chose it as it was a historical hotel that had fortunately not been decimated inside with modern decor and furnishings; we were not disappointed!
My partner and I stay in UK hotels around 10 to 12 times a year and we have frequently paid twice as much and not had such fantastic service from staff, they are truly outstanding! Friendly, polite and above all genuine. We chose not to have our room serviced during our three night stay but nevertheless, each day a fresh supply of towels, coffee, shampoo etc were left outside our room. Every single member of staff we encountered went above and beyond; nothing was too much trouble.

Our room, 12, was beautiful and at the back so no road noise at all. Super comfy bed, everything clean and furnished exactly to our taste. This is reputedly one of the haunted room and whilst no apparitions manifested, there were a few odd things such as sockets being switched off and a saucer seemingly disappearing.

We ate both at Pizza Pony and Mr. Grundy's, both downstairs. Fantastic food and wonderful, friendly service. The pizzas are out of this world. I had 3 and I'm not normally a huge pizza fan. As vegetarians we found ample choice.

I can not praise the hotel, the room and the staff enough. We have already booked another stay for next month!

From the moment we spoke to Karen to reserve the room for June’s wake we were filled with confidence especially in the current climate. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff to organise our wishes for the loss of a very special lady. On the day social distancing and hygiene was strictly observed by staff and guests. We were very impressed with table service by all of the lovely staff . The rooms were set out beautifully and the food ....... well what can I say it was amazing and booked for 30 people however, could of fed 100 thank you to the chef for his hard work and Karen for being so caring on this special day . We would definitely recommend this venue to anyone for any occasion. Thank you again to all of the staff who made this day so special in memory of June xx

I booked here after needing somewhere in Derby close to the town centre on a main arterial route served by public transport. The building and interior are grand, quirky and full of interesting furnishings.
Staff are very friendly and the room I stayed in was well equipped clean and tidy. The four poster bed was a surprising feature and very comfortable. After plans changed I booked again for more nights in the same week. Initially I was placed in a different room, at the far end of the hotel. Unfortunately this didn't have a wifi connection which could have proved a problem for the three nights stay.
However they were more than happy to switch me back to my original room, which I then locked myself out of by accident, making it an interesting first impression for all!
The food options in the evening were limited at the time of my stay due to staff absence but on the Sunday evening I sampled the wonderful pizza provider situated on the premises and the bar is very reasonably priced.
I sampled breakfast one of the mornings (additional £9.50) which was incredible quality. The bacon was thick and gorgeous, the eggs perfect, the full English in full was top notch. Toast, cereals and juice was also provided with a pot of tea but I couldn't finish it all!
I didn't sample any other food or facilities whilst staying, worth noting there is a pub quiz on a Thursday evening (all but 1 table in the bar was reserved by 6pm) and they do show live sports when on (ie premier league over the weekend)

They offer very competitive room rates, in a great location for a 15 minute walk into Derby city centre. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff I had the pleasure of dealing with. I would recommend 100% and love to have the opportunity to return.

I thought I’d try this place as a change whilst working in derby and I wish I hadn’t bothered. The pictures they use on the various booking sites bear no relation to the reality- the rooms are tiny and the very uncomfortable bed takes over the room. The whole place desperately needs some money spending on it - it does seem to appeal to a certain sort of clientele, something which is perhaps best highlighted by the notice on the (tiny) bathroom wall which asks guests not to dispose of their condoms down the toilet.
There are far better places to stay - I couldn’t get out fast enough.

This place has made it to our favourite stay yet! An amazing old building, super quirky. Not perfect, but that’s how we like it! We felt welcomed and relaxed as soon as we stepped through the door. Our room had a wonderful four poster bed and had one of the most comfortable mattresses we’ve slept on, even at properties costing 2 or 3 times as much. We didn’t eat there but are planning to next time as the food smelled delicious. The pub downstairs was great with an excellent selection of beers and ales. Lots of photographs and items which adds to the charm of the building. We now have a great place to stay to attend gigs and events in Derby at a great price.

We held a 80th birthday party there for a family member, selecting a buffet menu and booking the function room, for an afternoon celebration. The whole experience was easy, the service was excellent, the team were very helpful and friendly, food was well presented and tasty, with the rooms delightful and comfortable, displaying a period ambience in keeping with the buildings heritage. Well done team Georgian House Hotel and many thanks, for helping to make the day memorable.
