Went in for Sunday lunch and had pre booked to ensure that we got a table. Arrived and they had my name wrong which didn't help but was seated by a pleasant young lady.
We had to swap seats as the tables are a bit jammed together. The sour faced manageress informed us via the waitress that we had 90 mins before they need the table. Ok, having done food retail, I understand this.
Food was delicious, hot, seasoned well and plenty of it.
Debated dessert but ended up giving in. Again, delicious and well portioned but could see that 1 hour in, the manageress was getting angsty. As we asked for the bill, she asked the waitress of we were leaving and had she informed us of the 90 mins stay time. I think I would have preferred it if the manageress had just come over and asked us to leave! The feeling of being an inconvenience was overwhelming though not from the waiting staff. They were very sweet.

Overall I may come back. The food is worth it, maybe not the stares

Booked into The Kings 22nd June and couldn’t be happier, the room I stayed in had been refurbished and was very comfortable.
From checking in to checking out the whole experience was filled with great service.

Breakfast was also really good, so good I felt the need to say thank you to the chef for such great food
Everyone from housekeeping to the landlord worked tremendously.
I look forward to staying here again. “Well done all....!”

We had a table booked and once seated at our table it took around 15 minutes until someone came over to take our drinks order. We did try to catch someone to get their attention but no one to be seen. We then placed our food order and waited around 45 minutes until we decided it was taking way too long and asked when it would be ready and suddenly the food arrives within minutes. We then had to ask for cutlery before she walked away to deal with another table.
The roast was lovely and could not fault it but no one came back to our table to ask us if everything was ok and if there anything else we needed? It seemed as though there was not enough staff to cope with demand and it really did lack customer service. We were very regular customers for Sunday Carvery before all the changes implemented but this will be our last time.

We visited for Sunday roast with family. We had pre booked to ensure we got a table due to COVID restrictions. When we arrived we were squeezed on to a table meant for 4 people at a push ( we were a party of 6! ) so we asked if we were able to move to a bigger table. The staff member did accommodate this, with much effort. At least 15 minutes had passed since being at the new table and still we weren’t asked for our drinks order ( which again due to COVID can’t be ordered at the bar) so we had to call someone over to order drinks. The same thing then happened with the food, which again we had to wave down a staff member’s attention to order. The wait for the food was quite a while, however the food completely made up for it. Absolutely beautiful roast. Great portions and beautifully cooked. Which wasn’t to the staffs knowledge as not one person asked if everything was okay with our meals. Whenthe food was bought out, a hot dish full of veg was placed right in-front of my 10 month old baby... ( basic knowledge). After finishing our meals we yet again waved down a member of staff to order desserts, and take our plates, as one of the staff members was too busy stood behind the bar on her phone. After being in the restaurant for nearly 3 hours at this point we finally called someone over to ask for the bill ( as it was obvious no one was going to come and ask if we wanted anything else). A blonde young lady then started her shift as we were leaving who thanked us on the way out, which was the first bit of manners we herd in the staff since being there.
It is such a shame, as the place has so much potential with beautiful food! But the staff have no people skills whatsoever, we found them very rude and unhelpful, it was obvious they didn’t want to be there to a point where it made us feel awkward asking for basic things.

We went to 20 at The Kings today for their carvery, for a 60th birthday. We used to come regularly a few years back so we had high hopes, but unfortunately we were disappointed. We booked here because of the larger rooms they have at the back for larger parties, we were given one of these but the tables had been arranged in 2 rows so we had to rearrange these. I’m sure no family wants to sit as 2 separate groups for a family birthday meal!
We had 2 vegans as part of our group, and I had pre booked their meals (in this day and age that shouldn’t be necessary, vegan options should be available!). We reminded staff about the vegan meals, and then had to do so 5 times more before their meals eventually arrived - 45 minutes after first asking. They had ordered a meatless roast and a cauliflower steak, 2 cauliflower steaks arrived, but they were so hungry by this point they just accepted it. We were told that they had 2 new chefs in the kitchen, and the usual ‘excellent’ chef, had taken the day off. On a day when you’ve got more than 150 covers in (so staff told us), surely you make sure you’ve got a good chef in!
For the rest of us, the carvery was luke warm and the veg wasn’t the best. The meat was also fatty. And it was painful to watch the chef carve it with the wrong kind of knife!
The service was also poor, apart from waiting so long for the vegan meals, it took a long time for someone to take our drink orders, and then no one checked on us for the rest of the meal.
It’s a shame as their rooms for larger groups are good, but we won’t be returning.

I had a nice welcome at the Kings (the receptionist was particularly nice and helpful). I was happy with my room - until I went to bed. The mattress was the worst I have ever slept on - it seemed to have springs inside, which hints at its age. When I looked at it, you could tell from the design of the label that it was really old. I'm not a fussy person, but that mattress was totally unacceptable in a hotel - or anywhere (Room 10). I don't normally write bad reviews, and did contact the hotel to complain, but recieved no reply, so wanted to warn people!

I stayed at the hotel with 2 friends for 1 evening. I found the hotel decor very modern and updated. Rooms small but clean. Breakfast very nice. I did however have an incident where I arrived back at the hotel to use the bar but was made to queue outside. Never have I ever experienced a situation where I had to queue for a drink at my own hotel bar. I know we are in uncertain times with rules but was treated like a random member of public instead of a guest. Door staff very rude and unhelpful which upset one of our party who refused to stay at the hotel in the end. I did stay, the hotel was very noisy from inside and out. Shame as they have done a great job making it cosy but was made to feel unwelcome. I won't be going back.

We stopped in here for a drink. No alternative to NHS track and trace which begs the question what they were doing before to record details. Lady on the door got pissy because my husband had it but I didn't.

Sit down and watch her get within one metre of a local with no mask (who by his own omission can wear one but hasn't bothered) and stood at the bar bit bo attempt to move them away. Then another member of the bar staff approaches and puts his arm around the local and laughs away.

Won't be going back. Loveky and cosy but either enforce the rules or don't.

Food took quite a while to come (around 45 minutes) and was pretty average. Staff were friendly but the restaurant was clearly understaffed for the amount of people in there. Not the worst but wouldn't rush back.

I really enjoyed the food here. The place is decorated very well. Nice vibe and great atmosphere in the restaurant/bar area! I recommend this place highly. The room was done perfectly welcomed by tea and coffee in the room along with a wonderful clean room for just £50!
