Stayed for one night at BLOC GATWICK, had a VIP room with airport view. The room was spacious & modern with a large very comfortable bed. The bathroom was tasteful with Armani fittings, the shower was great with numerous shower heads/jets. There was a coffee maker which was convenient. The hotel is conveniently situated in Gatwick’s South Terminal. There is no bar/restaurant but there are a few within the terminal. We ate at Giraffe on the evening & the food was good quality & reasonably priced. An important point to make for anyone planning just an overnight stay is to book the valet parking in advance when booking a room as it will cost £18, when booking on arrival it is £50 so there is a vast difference in price by not booking ahead of your stay. Also the hotel offer meal packages on their booking page but I’m not sure of their pricing. Overall I would recommend a stay at BLOC especially in one of the VIP suites.

Dear Terence What an excellent, detailed review. Thank you very much. You've included many of the points that I would've made if someone was asking me about Bloc. I'd only add to what you say about parking. We offer brilliant Park/Stay Fly packages with our partners at Gatwick Valet parking, but they do need to be booked more than 24 hours before your arrival time here. It's a fantastic facility just to be able to drive up, drop your car off, then walk for about three minutes through the South Terminal to Bloc. It's a real pleasure to see that you'd recommend Bloc and we hope that you'll be returning to stay again soon. With best wishes Sarah

Fab location, quick check in, small rooms (as advertised), blue light is a bit annoying around the window. I wasn't a fan of the open plan shower/toilet. Having to dry the floor and toilet area after showering wasn't the best. Booked this along with the parking package for Gatwick and it actually works out a quite expensive way of doing it (for the convenience) but next time I'll go to the Hilton.

Dear Laura Thanks for this review. I've had a look at the Park/Fly packages at the Hilton and the On-site and Valet parking cost there is more than double what we're offering for an up to 8 day package as of today, so booking at Bloc's definitely the less expensive option. We have varying room sizes, some are functional and compact but we also have more spacious Aspire and VIP rooms if that's something you'd prefer. You can see all our different room types on the web-site and can call up our on-site Reservations team for a chat about your requirements if that's easier. Booking direct gives you other benefits too. You can sign up for our VIP list and you'll get free tea and coffee vouchers, Premium Security passes and free room upgrades where available. Give us another try in a different room type, I'm sure you'll leave rested and refreshed, ready to carry on with your travels. Best wishes Sarah

This hotel is an outstanding travel hack for anyone facing a night at Gatwick. As a former flight attendant used to bussing to Croyden, Crawley or similar this is just remarkable! It’s like wheels in suitcases - why did it take so long to think of something so simple? Our double room is clean, cozy and the bed was remarkably comfortable. Check in took seconds, we used our Bloc discount for dinner at the terminal, then closed the black out blinds and had a great sleep before our morning flight. Why wait in some dreary hotel lobby waiting for a shuttle bus when you can lie in bed till the last minute then stroll down to the terminal? Our room also felt strikingly modern with panelled walls in grey and brown, with lovely discreet lighting. And compared to other pod hotels I have stayed at the room was positively palatial (yet still tiny let’s not kid ourselves - that is all you need!) Two thumbs up.

Dear Ann I'm going to use your expression 'an outstanding travel hack' again, thanks so much. You couldn't have given us a better review. Bloc's aiming to be something new in the travel market based on fresh thinking. We use clever new design and construction techniques to build hotels with small, chic, perfectly-formed rooms for people who appreciate quality but don't want the fuss of a traditional airport hotel. You'll never find anything dreary about Bloc! We also have a range of room types so that if you do want a bit more space or coffee and tea-making facilities, book one of our Vista Plus or VIP rooms. All our rooms are clear to see on the Bloc website whenever you're thinking of booking your next trip. We'd love to see you again and look forward to welcoming you back. All best wishes Sarah

We had a really lovely stay at Bloc Hotel in Gatwick. We also had parking included which we paid for as part of the package so we could leave our car at the airport whilst we went on holiday for a long weekend. This was great & for short-term stay was a really reasonable price and great this was included with the hotel stay (we purchased car park spot online direct on Bloc Hotel website.)

The room was lovely with great views of the runway but wasn't noisy with all the planes which was something I was a little worried about! Lovely big room - We stayed in a VIP Room with panoramic views. The photos online didn't do it justice really! Comfy Big King Size bed, with big tv with sky movies on which was lovely for an early night before a early flight in the morning. Also had tablet room control which controlled lights and blinds which was pretty space age!

Priority Security Check was great as we could go straight through in shorter queue when we were ready. Would definitely stay again!

Dear Laura How lovely to see that your Park/Stay/Fly package was perfect for you. We're able to offer discounted Valet parking when you book directly with Bloc. It's so convenient just to drop your car off at the Short Stay car park in the South Terminal and it's there ready and waiting on your return. Our VIP rooms are pretty special and include panoramic windows, more space and Nespresso machines. Ideal if you want something more than our standard Sleep or Vista rooms. Once you've signed up to our VIP list and book directly with Bloc, you're entitled to free tea and coffee vouchers, Premium Security passes, and where available, free room upgrades. The shorter queues with your Premium Security passes are definitely a welcome bonus. Thanks very much for letting us know that you'll definitely be staying again. We'll be delighted to welcome you back. Best wishes Sarah

I stayed here with my partner. Booking in advance via booking.com. We arrived at 2130 from a domestic flight and had an 0555 departure the following morning.

We waiting a few mins to check in. Staff super friendly and efficient. We booked one of the bunk rooms which was immaculately clean. This was more important than usual as coronavirus was in full swing.

There was plenty of storage in the room for 2 cases, including under the bottom bunk. Hangers on the back of the door. Charging point and plugs by the bottom bunk, TV on the wall.

Bathroom was huge with a great shower as well as some soap and shower gel. Towels clean and fluffy. Yes the bathroom does get wet after someone had had a shower but it is a wet room. Maybe a squeegee for the floor would help. Loads of hot water.

Place was quiet and ideal for what we needed it for. The little guide book in the room has lots of handy tips in it as well as special offers and discount vouchers for food and drink. Good free WiFi connection. Good quality bedding and pillows, very cosy.

It's right next to the security entrance so super easy to find too.

We stayed at the Bloc Gatwick for one night before and after our annual January holiday. We managed to get the Runway Suite, which is a large room offering views right over the runway and main body of the airport - a great spot if you love planes! The room was really tastefully decorated, the bed fairly comfy, and it has great tech for closing curtains, turning lights on and off, etc; but I would say it seems slightly style over substance. Especially when you look at the Armani en-suite bathroom, a bit too much style and a loss of decent functionality, but a better ‘loo with a view’ you will not find - unless you don’t like planes! The shower is slightly over complicated; but we did have two really nice evenings there and will probably be back to stay again!

Dear Alan I'm so pleased you indulged yourself with our amazing Runway Suite. I can't think there's a better room at Gatwick , especially if you're even remotely an 'avigeek'! Your comments regarding the shower will be passed back to the Design team, we want function to be at the forefront of what we're offering our guests. It's great to know that both your nights with us went so well and we'd certainly love to opportunity to welcome you back in the future. With best wishes Sarah

The location is very good, being right next to departures. The reception staff were efficient and friendly. The room was, shall I say, different. It was quite compact and completely inside (ie no window). The double bed was large and long enough for me to spread out without touching the top and bottom. This was a necessity as it was at the end of the room and took up the entire width. The disadvantage was that, if it was shared (as it was) then one person has to climb over the other to get out. It was good to have small water bottles supplied. The 'wet room' shower was good, although, of course, it meant that the floor was wet after use. This was a bit inconvenient for the toilet but soon dried out. With the lights turned off it was completely dark inside. I did not find a way of dimming lights. As the control was next to the 'open' side of the bed, this was not completely helpful to find the way to the loo at night.
This might seem negative but is not intended to be. The booking was to give us somewhere to sleep for one night, it was warm, dry, clean, relatively comfortable, convenient and the price was amongst the best. I would use it again if the price was right but it is not the Hilton.

Dear Les Thank you for this, I've read it carefully and with interest. You were in one of our Sleep rooms that're very much as you describe. We say that they're like cabins on a luxury yacht. Simple, functional, spaces with comfortable beds and the ability to escape entirely from the noise and bustle of the busy airport immediately outside. This means the best night's sleep at really affordable rates. We're aware that not everyone wants a windowless room, much of our room inventory is made up of rooms with windows. There are room types with the head-end only of the bed against the wall, so in those rooms you don't have to climb over each other. Have a look at the VIP rooms for example. They come with a higher price tag but are much more spacious and many more facilities. Have a look at our website if you're at all unsure of which room type would suit you best. We're not the Hilton or trying to be; we're the young, vibrant company that wants to give you the best night's sleep right in the heart of the airport. We'd love you to come back and stay and look forward to hearing from you. Very best wishes Sarah

We have used The Bloc for as long as I can remember. The parking is the best and easiest you can find and we love the location. This time however our room smelt so bad we didnt even want to sit inside it whilst my Husband went down to complain! Sitting in the hallway for nearly an hour they genuinely sent a staff member up with a can of airfreshner!!! The smell of musty BO is impregnated in the floor and the walls, it wouldn't go away and isn't from a guest. Once we complained again, we moved to a great room just a few doors down. If they had free rooms, why they would put us in there as regular guests, obviously knowing there's a problem, I cannot fathom.
Would never stay again.

Dear Kimberley I'm very disappointed to see your comments about the smell in your room. I would really appreciate the chance to talk to you about this. I can't access your Reservation from Tripadvisor and don't know your reservation date so would love you to contact me guestrelations@blochotels.com. I need the further information so that I can deal with this for you and make it up to you. We need to work out how our standards slipped and we don't want to lose you as a regular guest. This isn't a true representation of Bloc and is far from the perfect presentation of our rooms that we always aim for. We inspect all our rooms daily and we would never release a room if there was something wrong with it. As someone who's stayed before I hope you'll agree that this was an absolute one off Please give us another chance and contact me. I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes Sarah

We chose this location for the night before an early departure for our holiday in Gran Canaria. A great location right next to departures and security meant we could gain a few extra minutes in bed from a conventional airport hotel. Although small the room was comfortable and felt spacious. Because of the design the room is air conditioned with no access to fresh air so we both felt a little dry on awaking. Wet room with shower, toilet and sink, shower gel was provided. Only downside was only one USB charging point. For a premium price one would expect to be able to charge a couple of devices simultaneously in todays modern world.

My daughter wanted to stay here as she’s seen some of her favourite travel vloggers stay here before flying out of Gatwick. I paid £80 for one night in a standard room with no window, then on the train up I had an email with offers I could accept for upgrades so I paid an extra £25 for a larger room.
The rooms are dark in decor and super small, even the larger ones. I know it’s only for 1 night but getting stuff ready for the morning was a nightmare as there was no where to put anything except the desk and the cases took up every inch of floor space. The rainfall shower was awful - it only had a few ‘holes’ in operation which spurted out all over the place so couldn’t use it and had to use hand held (love a rainfall shower and we were both looking forward to it). The shower literally is in the toilet so if you want to use the bathroom after someone’s showered and you’re already dressed and ready to go then watch out! Because the whole bathroom is soaked. Nothing except Boots is open in the south terminal so we were directed to a near by hotel which wasn’t actually serving food either. Then onto the north terminal which had nothing and neither did the premier inn over there because they were prioritising their own guests.
So all in all we paid £115 for a dark room (except for the neon purple light shining through the window all night) with hard beds, naff shower, poor wet room design and no space and no place to eat. Next time we will defo stay in premier inn as although its nothing different or exciting it’s value for money and always reliable - sorry bloc
2 stars for the nice guy at check in even if he did misinform us and the fact that is you were flying from south terminal the location would be excellent

I'm really sorry that staying with us at Bloc didn't meet your expectations. We've got a very comprehensive website with photos of all the rooms accurately displayed, along with full descriptions including room dimensions. There's space under the bed for suitcases as well as storage under the bedside table. The rainfall shower should have been a fantastic experience and I'd like to apologise for the fact that it wasn't. If you contact me at sarah@blochotels.com I can discuss this with you further. The fact that many outlets within both terminals weren't open is an unfortunate side effect of the Covid restrictions and shut downs, if there was anything we could do to improve this we would. Thank you for mentioning our helpful Reception staff, they're working hard to restore everything to normal. I'll look forward to hearing from you directly. With best wishes Sarah
