Room was ok to look at but after a few minutes there was a doggy odour. Fine if you have dogs but not fine if you don’t. Room was on ground floor at back of pub so couldn’t leave door or window open . If I’d known that they allowed dogs in all the rooms (as opposed to allocating specific rooms for pets) I wouldn’t have booked this hotel. I certainly won’t be returning.

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, bland and boring beer selection. Average to high prices. A missed opportunity to offer some unusual and exciting beers. This pub offers an uninspiring selection of quite expensive beers, which is why I didn't stay very long. Overall experience was unfortunately very average.

We have stayed at the Old George, Stony Stratford on numerous occasions in the past and it has always provided bed and breakfast. Bar meals were also available.

We arrived last Friday after an horrendous journey from Yorkshire. We were looking forward to a shower, change of clothes and one of their lovely bar meals.

When we asked about an evening meal we were told that they no longer do food. We were then told that they no longer did breakfast either. We had booked bed and breakfast but we were not informed beforehand that breakfast was no longer an option. The manager said they had no chef. In the past it was the chambermaids who had cooked the breakfast not the chef.

The manager was very unapologetic and stated that they were trying to sell. We were told that there were plenty of places to eat in the High Street but we had our dog with us and those pubs that were open did not allow dogs. The one that did was not providing food. The other of the 2 pubs in the High Street was closed and up for sale.

Comfortable stay, friendly staff and a fun pub, a perfect combination for a great visit. A gem of a find in Stony Stratford. We had two rooms at the back of the venue, both clean and comfy, the weather was HOT so the staff sourced a fan upon our request - Thank You 😊

We had booked this hotel for a visit to our family who live in Stoney Stratford. We drive from Sussex with our son and dog. We had booked for two nights.

We walked into a busy bar and directed to the glass collection point at the bar. A large man in his late 50s started to check us in. He took my cash then asked “is he related to you”. I said he’s our son. He then said “you see two men checking in with a boy you can see how it looks, we have to be careful”. People around us stopped talking and were looking and listening.

I said I’m sorry it’s 2022 we’ve come to see elderly relatives we haven’t visited and you are suggesting we are paedophiles. Another thinner balding man then joined in and said you never know these days you can see how it looks we have to ask you could be paedophiles!

My son aged 11 started to get upset I demanded my money back and we left.

I have reported the Incident as we both work in the NHS and familiar with safeguarding rules and this was extremely in appropriate, discriminatory practice. I can guarantee if we were a man and a woman with a child we would not have been asked the same question.

This kind of hate and bigotry left my son in tears, and me and my partner of 21 years extremely angry. We have the right as a family not to be treated in such an abusive and discriminatory manner.

If you are LGBTQ+ do not stay here you won’t be welcomed and I wouldn’t give this establishment a penny. If you are straight but have any values I wouldn’t visit or stay at this establishment as their values belong in the dark ages.

We adopted our children six years ago and have been on many holidays in hotels and we have never experienced such blatant homophobia.

Stayed in the new out building. Room had a glass panel in the door and the outside lights stayed on all night which lite the room up all night so made it difficult to sleep. No hairdryer in the room which is a basic everywhere else we have stayed. Shower was wet room but floor stayed wet so had to put the towel down as went all the way to the otherside of the room to the toilet. We only had one towel between the two of us ( this could just have been a error on housekeeping side) . No parking on site we had to park in a carpark out of site. No breakfast as stated as the pub does not open until 12pm.
The staff were friendly and we did have lunch in the pub which was very nice.

I've stayed here perhaps six times now, while attending an event nearby. It used to be great, with friendly staff and decent breakfasts. It's really gone down hill now.

The person who checked me in was as miserable when I checked out as when I arrived. The room was OK but very basic. It was very warm in the room but only one small window opened - the other was nailed shut. They no longer do food AT ALL and, at 08:00 on a Sunday morning, all I could find for breakfast was a sandwich at a nearby filling station.

It's noisy with a quiz on Friday night and a band on Saturday. That didn't bother me but it would probably bother some.

The bar is OK with a good selection of ales etc. I douns the locals in the bar generally very friendly.

Overall, this place has gone down hill. A few of the staff, including the chap who checked me in, all looked like they'd rather be doing something else. I won't be staying here again, which is a shame because it's a lovely little town.

Small but cosy room, perfect for myself as a solo traveller. Good vibes in the pub, cute high street. Felt very safe and relaxed in the area, felt free to walk around and explore. Bed is very comfortable. Option for late check out (11am instead of 10am) would have made my life much easier on morning of checking out, due to early morning appointment.

My friend and I booked to stay one night. On arrival we asked where to check in and got a bit lost. The woman at the bar angrily snapped at us.

She then asked the name of the booking. I have a foreign sounding name which she made a face at and couldn't find it in the book. She asked me to look for her so I did and pointed at my name. She then proceeded to have a go at me for helping her find it even though she asked me to???

She then said in a very hostile manner "you and I, we're really not getting along are we?" whilst staring me down. I felt really intimidated and uncomfortable and when she finally showed us to the room I ended up crying because I'm just not used to being spoken to in that way.

The 2 stars is because the room was actually very nice and well stocked with tea and coffee but in terms of basic human decency it gets a zero.

Great evening in a fabulous village pub
We visited the Old George with friends to enjoy a bit of Christmas cheer. The place was busy, but the atmosphere was very friendly and the attentive bar staff meant little or no queuing at the bar. Great range of beers and ales, all beautifully conditioned. Added bonus of a bingo based quiz but using snippets of Christmas songs instead of numbers on the cards …a brilliant idea because you had to know the songs / artists to complete your card
It’s clear the Landlord and the team put a lot of effort into making a visit to the George one to remember and they should be proud of the result
Great place to visit
