Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good position by the river with ample parking as long as you remember to register your car. The rooms though basic are clean and quiet and now you can have them serviced daily if you want. Wi fi is very poor

The premier inn set in a beautiful location offered surprise attraction near the river with a lock, boats and lovely walk. Well organised during 2020 nice room , friendly staff beefeater offered nice food too. Enjoyed our break thank you.

2 night mid week stay, room was a very good size, good value £104 for 2 adults, 2 night stay, had all the amenities we needed. Liked the lite up mirror and appreciated the floor standing fan. All the staff at the hotel were very friendly and welcoming.
The beefeater alongside it although in an enviable river side position we found lacking friendly atmosphere and the food served was lukewarm. The waitress was helpful but the greeter who showed you to your table was simply horrid .

I would choose the premier inn hotel again though....just eat elsewhere.

We booked a family room for 1 night at the end of August for myself, my husband and 2 sons.

We stay in premier inns all the time and they are usually very good and thought the riverside location looked really nice.

Upon reading the reviews I noticed that time and time again they mentioned that the noise from above was VERY loud and that they could hear every single footstep.

This is to be expected in some hotels I know but we are travelling with our 6 year old son who has autism so I decided to call the hotel to ask for advice regarding the room.

A woman answered and I explained we had an upcoming booking, that i understand noise can’t be prevented but that I was concerned about the ongoing disturbance if it was in fact as loud as stated because of our son with special needs.

I asked if it was possible anywhere on their system to make a note so that maybe we could request a room on the top floor. She practically laughed down the phone at me in the rudest tone I have ever experienced from asking a perfectly reasonable question. She simply said ‘no, the family rooms are all on the ground floor so no that won’t be possible’.

Obviously I wasn’t aware of this but it makes sense I suppose. I said ok then and there was a few seconds of silence before I was about to ask if there was one side or area that was quieter, maybe the end of a hall but before I got the chance she stated that ‘well there’s no guarantee who’s going to be above you or near you is there so not sure what you want ….’ And then nothing. Just silence.

I was really annoyed with her tone so I just said ok at this point and hung up. We didn’t want special treatment, just maybe some advice and a little guidance as we have had from many of their hotels before to try and make the stay for our son as comfortable as possible.

I have just cancelled the booking and changed to a different hotel chain as I didn’t trust that our visit would be a happy one if their customer service in person is anything like it was on the phone.

We traveled to this premier inn this week on business, We specifically booked this hotel as it had a place to eat on site, we travelled 4 hours to stay here to find out on arrival that the restaurant was closed and no alternative provision had been made or prior notice given, This was incredibly frustrating as this hotel was approximately £30 per night more expensive than the city centre hotel and we had 3 rooms in total with one of my colleagues staying for 2 nights .

On arrival into my room on the ground floor I was met with a stench which I can only describe as fusty and unclean, The Room was incredibly run down with the radiator and towel rail covered in rust , the bathroom was covered in limescale and dirt, the toilet was particularly disgusting , the room was full of dust and spider webs and had clearly not had a deep clean in some time I actually heard the lady on reception talking on the phone when I checked out saying the cleaner could only work 4 hours a day due to her son being poorly and not been given any extra help, We paid £85 per room for this hotel and spent a total of £340 as a company and are incredibly disappointed and would not recommend staying here, we found ourselves having to eat at the village hotel next door and in future would just stay there.

Ist issue is that I booked one night at £76.99 and then decided to extend my stay for another night which resulted in the second night being charged at £98. I had a distinct feeling of being caught in a trap. Shades of Ryan Air! The end result is that neither me or my three colleagues are likely to stay in a Premier Inn if this is the trap that is sprung.
2nd issue is with the breakfast on the second morning no orange juice and a broken hot drink machine. The staff were apologetic - "the delivery did not arrive" I think that both Premier Inns and Beefeater could do better.....
3rd It appears that there is no housekeeping visit on the second day is normal procedure? The result was the tiny number of sachets for coffee and milk was exhausted by the second morning. Again a feeling of being short changed. I will obviously put my comments on Trip Advisor so that others may be forewarned.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist and felt safe with the Covid safety that had been put in place. We had a ground floor room which was spotlessly clean (I always take antibacterial wipes and cleaned everywhere, no dirt to be found!) The cleaners had done a brilliant job. Bed comfortable. Free car park. The hotel is by the river and is very picturesque. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We only stayed for the 1 night after checking out of the hotel down the road, they were fully booked so we was allocated a ground floor room at the back, however we smelt damp upon opening the door. Room was tired looking but was going to do the job for a night.
Early morning we were woke by drunken guests above, as we had no sleep due to the noise continuing till about 4am-5am, we waited till an hour or so later to notify reception of the incident.
They didn't seem shocked when I told them what we had experienced as had numerous other guests also complained.

I did complain and asked for a refund, however clearly the sleep promise isn't all it's cracked up to be as I have been fobbed off with 'T'&C's'.

I shall be staying at other establishments in the future for my travels.

As most Premier Inns you get a good night's sleep and staff that bend over backwards to help.

The "But" is the Beefeater which is attached to this hotel, the position by the medway is to die for, albeit Premier Inn send out an e-mail warning of staff shortages in all their hotels, Beafeater run this pub and restaurant on a shoestring with regards to trained staff bolstering them with what appears to be teenage part time workers, subsequently the ques at the bar are around a twenty minute wait whilst two or three bar staff struggle to cope, In the morning there is just one poor chap rushing round taking and delivering breakfast orders which don't come back in order, the next table to us ordered after us but had finished eating their breakfast when ours arrived 40 minutes later after we prompted the poor bloke who was just delivering what he was given from the
kitchen, and to add insult to injury the order was short on what we ordered, the bacon was like tasteless cardboard and the poached eggs were unrecognisable they had ever been eggs at all, the only reasonable part of the breakfast was the sausages.

We sat outside with a coffee by the medway at 11am after our ordeal in the breakfast restaurant to find the outside area in a disgraceful condition with litter and cigarette ends all over the place, not a good experience in what is a fantastic location.

The check in was easy, the staff helpful and polite and the room clean and well maintained as usual for this class of Hotel. The rooms feel a little dated but this is more of an observation than a fault, though for the per night price its reasonable to expect better. The wifi is a real pain is it disconnects you every 10 minutes or so to ask yet again if you want to pay £5 a night for the upgraded WiFi - this becomes a bigger problem as there is no phone reception in my room and the tv has no signal, so its voip and streaming over wifi or bring a book. The hotel shares a carpark with a beefeater restaurant where meals are provided if you have them included in your room. This could be a good or bad thing depending on how much you enjoy beefeater hospitality.
The rest is just ok, nothing stands out as particularly good or bad, but personally I'll look elsewhere in the future as I feel that there is better to be had for the same money.

Hi Fred I've just checked and our hotel is around 8.5 miles away. If you speak to the team they can arrange a taxi for you. You can also get to the castle by public transport in just over an hour by bus. Kind Regards Samantha Morse Premier Inn Team
