We stayed here recently just for one night so that we could see my brother nearby. The cost was £40 for the night. We arrived in the early afternoon and was checked in swiftly.

The room we stayed in was just at the top of the first lot of stairs. The room was clean and warm and was decent in size. We only had one towel so luckily we had brought some of our own. It was stated on booking.com that there were free toiletries but there were none in the room. We again had brought our own but if we had not have done so then we would have had to go and purchase some.

The hairdryer did not work but thankfully I had tested this before my shower so just did not wash my hair for the night and instead just freshened up. The room was rather noisy and we could hear people talking as they were coming up the stairs. At one point I did feel like going out and telling the people off that were whistling away at 7am when it was a Sunday morning and we would have liked to have stayed in bed a little later than 7am.

The staff were friendly on the whole but the place could do with a few improvements. Overall it was ok for a one night stay but I don't think we would stay again.

My husband and myself were attending a wedding and rather than travel we decided to book a room at the county hotel, When we arrived the hotel receptionist booked us in, i can only assume that she was the receptionist as none of the staff seem to wear any kind of uniform or if they do its covered up by all sorts of different knitwear. The reception had water stains on the ceiling and quite a few bulbs out and loose fittings not a good first inpression, the room was small and compact and tired looking but was clean, but not as clean as hotel standards should be on futher inspection, the light fitting was full of dead flies not cleaned in a long while as it was thick in dust, the bathroom light over the mirror did not work, the shower fitment was missing and plenty of cobwebs in the bathroom. When going down stairs to attend the wedding we had been invited two there was no signage to state which room this was being held, in fact there were two weddings at the same time, utter confusion as to where to go. Nice big sign at reception would not cost alot. Bar prices - In the main bar the prices are dearer, upon entering the function room by the side of the bar is a laminated price list alot cheaper than the main bar although you did have to remind the staff every time your purchased a drink - Real lack of training or maybe comunication, as on the main corridor downstairs is yet again another laminated sign stating breakfast times and where breakfast is served totally wrong room on signage get it changed you spend 10 minuites in the morning trying to find where breakfast is served. and then when you do find the room you are greeted by the chef watching tv, not a good look. The tea and coffee are presented in large flasks and are labeled tea and coffee, i work in the hotel trade and know how these flasks work, to the average guests they would not and I observed numorous guests trying to get tea out of the flask with no such luck maybe instructions would help or even better modern coffee facilities. In my opion there seems to be a lack of staff, no pride in appearance and lack of training. 1 night porter to clean down 2 wedding and set up for breakfast no wonder the reception area looked no better in the morning the poor guy didnt have time to clean all areas, so no wonder he looked totally fed up.

Upon first arrival to my first (!) room, I was given one right at the back of the hotel. Room 51, cramped but had a beautiful walk in shower. Their statement should be 'free wifi but only for the elite with rooms at the front of the hotel' as it does not extend this far. Forced to do my computer and paperwork in the bar, which really is a 'who's who' place. Trying to settle in the bedroom, the boiler is so loud and when it runs full power it vibrates on the bed!
I demanded another room to which I got my second room (!?) ... Room 64 a twin room (where I am by myself) only the hot water doesn't work and no remote control. The night porter did find one for me though, but clearly just stole one from another room. The two staff who dealt with me this night are just rude.
The next day I asked for a new room or my money back. The two staff this day were much better, and finally gave me what the hotel states it gives: room 36, double room free wifi flatscreen TV shower and heating. Except the floors squeak, in my room, next door, upstairs... The doors slam, and if they don't, they remain on the hinge so they don't close properly. I kept waking up thinking I had somehow moved back in time and was living with my family again.but you won't get a good nights rest unless everyone stops moving.
If you want anything at the bar, you must go hunt the staff down, or they will be gossiping in the back room of reception. Didn't even ask about breakfast. I wanted no more communication with any of them.
I'm not complaining about the interior design, for these prices I expected bathrooms that needed more sealant, light bulbs out, and dirty window curtains.
They scored a two purely because of the three of 5 staff that I had met who were good. Without them, this place really is a sham, a scam for your money. Remember those room numbers, if you choose to come here, they could be your saviour.

I use the County regularly. It is clean, the staff are very friendly and the food is great value.
For the price this is one of the best value hotels I have stayed in - as clean and efficient as Travelodge etc, slightly cheaper AND you get breakfast thrown in.
Don't expect luxury, do expect homely attention to your needs.

Stayed for one night in a £38.00 room as this was all that was available, I was not expecting great things given the price, but the standard of the room was disgusting. Wallpaper peeling on the ceiling, it was dirty, there was bare plaster in the bathroom where it appeared something had fallen off the wall. The shower was covered in mold and the ceiling above this was heavily stained.

The carpets were dirty and had not been vacuumed and I was kept awake all night by banging doors and inconsiderate guests talking and shouting in the corridor outside my room. A totally awful experience. Never again

Hi, I have just come back from a night's stay with my friend at the County Hotel.
Overall the hotel is ok, little bit groggy and outdated but for a 1 nighter it's ok.

Once getting home I had a call from a staff member saying they were going to charge my credit card as I hadn't checked in but when I get into it they say it has been double booked and it is my fault, I only rang once to make a booking for 1 double room so how can this be my fault, I tried to explain this to a staff member and she got really rude and offensive so I think that the hotel management would really benefit from sending there staff on a customer service course as I have never spoke to anyone as rude as she was and I stay in hotels a lot with my job.

I checked in paid for my room and I wasn't given a receipt, Supposably the receptionist was new and just learning to me this is no excuse.

After my experience here I would not use this hotel again neither would I recommend it the staff just don't know what they are doing.

Carpet is filthy and the rooms are scruffy, with dirty curtains wallpaper falling off mould on the walls, and black grime round the bath and taps. Communal area is ok but the rooms leave a lot to be desired!

The only positive things I can say about this place are that it had free wifi, and that it was cheap. The whole place is shabby and dated; much of it is dirty; the bathroom was tiny with no bath and the towels were frayed around the edges - the shower needed a damn good clean and there was unflushed urine in the toilet when we arrived; the beds were very old, dirty and uncomfortable - there were stains on all of the bedding; the staff were generally friendly but not especially helpful; the television in our room didn't work and we were told we could move rooms to get a working one if we really wanted; and to top it all off, at breakfast all of the crockery was filthy. Please don't do what we did and think "Oh well, I'm sure it can't be that bad". It is. There's a reason this place is rated 11th out of 11 hotels in the town.

As a family we attended my cousin's wedding last week.
The wedding was absolutley amazing, such a happy day. We all had a great time. The ceremony was held in one room which was set out very nicely.
The photos were taken out side in a lovely setting.
The meal was served and it was fine, we all enjoyed the food.
A great party at night.
We stayed at the hotel, the room which we stayed in was for 3 people, it was very clean and comfortable. We had breakfast in the morning again it was fine with alot of choice.
We had a great time, thank you everyone at the hotel.

You can get a private room on Airbnb in central London for the same price with much better amenities. The only benefit of this hotel is that it's near family home so it was convenient for coming home for Christmas.

We chose the double deluxe room and we got a tiny 15sqm double bedroom with not even a table. I'll just list out everything about this awful room.

- A RANDOM SOCK was on the dirtiest lounge chair when we entered the room, this was very noticeable so it baffles me how the cleaner did not see this
- Dirty lounge chair was blocking the closet, which held a blanket on the floor and broken wire coat hangers
- Bedding had grease stains, unsure if it was clean or not
- Mattress springs can be felt when sat down, very cheap mattress not good for sensitive sleepers
- Radiator was set on high, room was stuffy and the dial to turn it down was actually broken and just loosely placed on for decoration?!
- Carpet had dust and stains, do not walk around barefeet!
- Bathtub only can take baths, there was a shower head holder but no shower head, showered at family's instead
- Rooms were not serviced at all on any of the days we were there, no trash taken out or room being cleaned
- Cold water was WARM, undrinkable water and no other water was provided
- Brown stains on bathroom walls, possibly a leak in the pipes? It was not wiped off the whole duration we were there

Top it all off, when we returned back late (midnight) from family celebrations, the door was locked in the front! The previous nights the door has been locked but there was a contact number. If we didn't have the number saved on our phone or any mobile data, we couldn't have gotten in. It took us 20 minutes of calling and waiting outside in 0C weather for someone to come and open the door for us. Fantastic. All for the low price of £50 a night!
