We have always wanted to visit Lancaster so decided to on our way back from Inverness to Liverpool. We found The Sun Hotel and Bar online and decided it sounded lovely and we were not wrong. It is in a beautiful Georgian Building right next to the main shopping area and a few minutes walk from Lancaster Castle and the Priory. They do not have their own parking but you can park in ParkSafe secure car park in China Street literally within less than 5 mins walk from the hotel, no inconvenience at all.
The hotels interior was magnificent and so much original parts of the interior intact including the bar/restaurant and the rooms. Our room was very large and had a magnificent large old style bed that was extremely comfortable. The room had all the mod cons but very sympathetically incorporated into the room. The bathroom was lovely mix of old and new and the shower was extremely powerful. Don’t expect the furniture to be pristine because a lot of it is old in style to suit the building. We were very happy with the room.
We ate in the bar and the food was top class pub type fare but with a lovely twist and superbly cooked. I had chicken supreme pan friend with black peppercorn sauce and have to say it was 10/10 in flavour. My partner had Fish and Chips and said that the fish was so fresh and again beautifully cooked. The bar was very well stocked with different local beers and good selection of wines.
All the staff were very friendly, professional, attentive, charming and could not do enough for you. We are both vapers and it is the first bar we have ever been in that allows you vape so that saved trips out onto the street, and before any of you think that that is disgusting, the people who were vaping including us were very discreet and there were not great plumes of vape in the air. Well done to the Sun Hotel.
Morcombe Bay is only about 20mins away which is well worth a visit and make sure you have your picture taken next to the statue of Eric Morcombe.
We will defiantly be making another visit, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our first meal out since March and used the Lancaster Brewery app to order everything from our seats. It worked great after we got our collective heads round it. The drinks came quick, the food the same, both were first class and the waiters were smiling, attentive and mindful of the whole covid thing without it being too antiseptic. We had a lovely evening in the Sun back yard. The only drawback was that by choosing to eat outside we were forced by proxy to sit near smokers. Like the olden days when folk sparked up at the table willy nilly! It didn't spoil our night. Thanks to all the Sun staff. You did a great job!

We returned here because we had a lovely stay a few years ago.
On arrival the staff were very welcoming. The covid situation was dealt with effectively with a one way system, sanitisers and people being asked for track and trace ID.
We had been upgraded to the suite and it was very clean and huge. I love coffee, so the nespresso machine is a great touch.
No problem with providing me with non-dairy milk.
We didn't eat here, but we came back for drinks before bed and the beer rates great and us obviously very well kept. The young men behind the bar were attentive and friendly to myself and my husband. The bed was really comfy with nice linen.
The check out time is very generous at 11am... But we are early morning people and went down to be greeted by the same welcome.
The staff here are really good at remembering things that you have previously said, for example... They remembered that I was drinking my coffee with soya milk, so they brought non dairy spread with my toast. I had an interesting smoothie and my husband ate a full English breakfast. Both lovely. Lots of coffee and tea. We would definitely come back. Excellent service.

Many thanks to the manageress and her exceptional team for a wonderful 2 night stay. A welcome respite in these troubled times; full attention to cleanliness, & distancing but without the experience feeling diminished by necessary rules. Plenty of sanitiser, and care, but maintaining a relaxed feel. The room was lovely, and we enjoyed food and drinks both evenings, with some nice personal touches from staff who remembered our preferences. Breakfast was very good, with veggie options for me as well as local meat produce and full table service. I’d advise booking direct to have this inclusive. The building has lots of history, with plaques to highlight its origins and features. Location great; 5 mins from castle & centre and 7 mins on foot to station. We liked the discretional extra touches such as proper filter coffee in the room, and a fan for the humid evenings provided without asking... oh and full marks for the evening background music. Classic after classic & no tinny pop which kept us in for drinks all evening! Don’t say this often but based on last 2 days (and our first foray ‘out’ since lockdown) I’d struggle to fault it. Nice whiskey range if that’s your thing too...

Came here on the 25th January with friends, 2 of us ordered off the Specials menu (good value for money) & the other 2 ordered the steak board special. Firstly, the waitresses were very friendly & explained that the Steaks were cooked in a particular way so you couldn’t pick (not rare for example) this was fine as they were beautifully cooked, you could also open a ‘tab’ which made it easier for us. Every single meal looked and tasted amazing, the meat is cooked to be very tender and tasty, I had the pork special which was amazing. Price was I would say it was very reasonable for the quality of food and the place itself was decorated lovely, very cosy. The well in the cornered off room was really interesting, worth a look! I would definitely recommend eating here, we arrived at about 4pm and was told there would be a wait for a table - we literally bought a drink & then we were shown to our seats so the service is top quality too!

The hotel is very central and easy to find in Lancaster. It's a few minutes away from the Lancaster train station.
When we arrived at the hotel, our room was not ready, but that is understandable, because we arrived before the check in time. The stuff was polite and helpful and there was no problem in leaving our last luggage while doing sightseeing and stuff even offered to call a taxi for us.
The room was very spacious, so is the shower, which I enjoyed so much. The bed was comfy and big.
Room had a hair dryer in with coffees and tees- your basic necessities really.
We ordered dinner in a main restaurant, which arrived pipping hot, fast and delicious.
However, on a bad side. The hotel room was very dusty: tables, lamps, drawers and cupboards. There were a set of sockets attached to the wall, which eventually fell off the wall while trying to charge the phone.
Bathroom was very dirty, with a pee or poo bits around the inside of the loo, hair on top the loo cover and inside the sink.
I was sceptical to use their water for tees and coffee.
We asked for a quiet room, however it was facing main street and it was very noisy through the night. It didn't help noisy neighbors, who were banging and dropping things way till 23pm.
I found the menu limited and was struggling to pick suitable foods.
I was in two minds whether to leave 3 or 4 stars, I decided to leave 3. While the stuff was great and we were placed away from the beer garden, I found that I can't really leave 4 stars for a dusty room where I can't have a cup of tea, noise starting at 6 am in the morning.

We had the Suite on the First Floor, beautiful and surprisingly practical! It was excellent value for money, we booked direct and breakfast was included in the price
The welcome was genuine, friendly and pitched at the right level. Everything we needed to know was provided and the room was ready right away. The cpark was also surprisingly good value and was SECURE…..

Given that this was the afternoon the day after England lost, the bar and restaurant were spotless, the staff welcoming and genuinely friendly. Bar service was good and the beers well stocked and well kept.

My only criticism would be the windows in the room didn’t open fully, but as it wasn’t warm and there was a fan, it was no “biggy”. The shower had good pressure and the bathroom well stocked. The filter water station outside the room was a welcome touch.

Dinner was HUGE!

The quality of the fish platter was excellent, but even I had to admit defeat after a while… service was good and Trent I’ve without being overbearing.

Breakfast was tasty and good quality, service prompt and friendly. The only annoyance was that two couples who arrived after us sat right behind us with no sense of social distancing, not the staffs fault.

All in all, a great experience and look forward to returning some day soon.

My twin brother Stephen and I were walking down Church Street on a freezing cold Tuesday morning when we decided to drop into The Sun Pub ,a wonderful and historic pub that was just a great find.
Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, the interior is superb, a cool looking serving bar dominates the main room, pubby decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub all housed in a wonderful looking building, it was just a great pub to unwind in.
We were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of the bar team, we had a study of their real ale's and we both opted to have Wainwright Brewery pale ale, served in pristine condition, we just kicked back, chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub.
My pale ale was really good, a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it, a classic British pale ale, so tasty, so refreshing, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew and planning out the day ahead in this beautiful town.
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and for a first time visit to The Sun Pub we had a great time, its easy to locate along Church Street, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning to visit Lancaster.

Only stayed for one night but everything was outstandingly good - all the staff were so friendly and helpful, my bed was comfortable and there was a cafetiere of good quality locally ground coffee in my room. The breakfast was beautifully cooked and the whole place has great character. It was also exceptionally good value, especially if booking directly on the hotel's website. Excellent food and a tremendous selection of local beers etc. Online check in and checkout all worked perfectly and the WiFi worked well without any form-filling. Wish I could have stayed longer. The location is in the heart of the historic city of Lancaster, with lots to see and do in easy walking distance.

Thank you for your query. Due to our city centre location unfortunately, we do not have our own parking facilities. However, we are situated 3-5 minutes walk from Parksafe. This is a 24-hour, multi-storey car park offering guaranteed security. More information and directions can be found on our website. We hope this helps with your enquiry. Kind regards, the Sun Hotel & Bar Team.
