Stayed there when i went back home to North Lincolnshire to visit family in Belton and it is an ok place. Obviously the fact that it's where the Wesleys went drinking is a selling point but it's a very basic set up in terms of rooms and the beds weren't really suitable for my needs. Could have been cheaper for a single guest too .

Arrived at Epworth shortly before 13:30pm and parked up and made our way to the Red Lion in the Marketplace We asked at the bar if they were still serving lunch and was advised to find ourselves a table We ordered 1x chicken and 1x beef Sunday lunch with diet cokes We were told that it would be put on a tab and paid afterwards After almost an hour of waiting we were finally served our lunch at 14:30pm We were not disappointed at all - the portions were quite big and plentiful and the food tasted very nice - however not sure why they put apple sauce on a chicken dinner and we also both got a chunk of swede which we both thought was a bit unusual- they also brought our roast potatoes in a separate bowl as they had forgotten them on the main plates We were unable to have a dessert afterwards as we were both full The only thing I would change or at least advise the staff is that if they are aware of a delay then just to let the clients know so they are fully aware as we were starting to think that they had forgotten us - we didn’t mind waiting but it just would’ve been nice to be made aware that’s all All in all the pub was lovely nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly it was quiet at the time we were there It was not the first time we have been here as my husbands mum lives in the town and we bring her here for special occasions as it’s close to her and always had very nice meals from here We would recommend the pub for their meals and their Sunday lunches they are very nice but would just like to be made aware of any delays in the future

Called in for a meal and a drink on Sunday afternoon. A lovely old English pub in a picturesque and historic village. Pub was busy and had a varied menu in addition to traditional Sunday roasts. We had the Sweet Potato and Vegetable Tikka Pie from the vegetarian and vegan menu, with rustic chips, mushy peas & gravy - absolutely delicious. Good bar with two well kept ales on hand pump - clearly personally selected by the friendly barman/publican. Good service, clean facilities, welcoming ambience and lovely large village (home of famous Wesley family) to walk round afterwards. Highly recommended!

Terrible trip, staff couldn’t find our booking then we got put in another building which was like a converted office. Falling apart, toilet rolls and bin bags on the landing which wa slovenly to see. The door knob fell off in the staff members hand. Ealll mounted heater hanging off the wall with wires in front which was v dangerous (even more so if children were present). Very much in need of a refurb and update, bedside lamp too dim to read a book from. The “upgraded” family room consisted of an additional single room which was more like a messy broom cupboard with cleaning equipment in! No hairdryer in the room but should I have wanted to do a spot of cleaning there were two hoovers in the room!! No extractor fan in the internal bathroom with no windows. A youth hostel would’ve been 5* in comparison to this, they should t be putting guests here, it was honestly the worst place I have ever stayed in (and I travel a lot for work). A shame as I’m sure it would have potential should it get a much needed refurbishment and TLC.

We have always loved the Red Lion we don’t go often as it’s pricey to eat out anywhere so we went for an early Valentine’s meal and we were very disappointed. The chips are advertised as Rustic Fries but they are just chips nothing fancy like they used to be. Apparently it’s cost cutting except I paid more money for it! We ordered ribeye steak it was nice but it wasn’t ribeye. All in all I felt cost cutting had gone too far as it’s seemed quality ingredients had been replaced for cheaper ingredients. After leaving £51 lighter we won’t be returning until the ingredients are back up to their usual standard, sorry but I can’t justify spending my hard earned money on stuff I can get from Iceland. I can’t understand why things are being replaced for cheaper products it’s just going to give you less custom.

I visited the Red lion towards the end of December 2022 for lunch with a group of friends. we had pre-ordered our meal, which was brough fairly promptly. I had the belly pork, which was VERY fatty with not much meat in evidence. My wife had fish pie which did not contain much fish. The roast potatoes were very greasy and the vegetables, especially the carrots, looked like they had just be ploughed from a field. we both had Christmas pudding, which was completely tasteless.

The Red Lion has recently (re)started doing Sunday lunches. We called in off the cuff on 13 November 2022 and had two beef dinners. (Four lean slices of beef, two Yorkshire Puddings, both roast and mashed potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower cheese, parsnips plus gravy boat) Absolutely faultless. As good as Sunday lunch as you could get.

Absolutely the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. Lovely meaty Haddock in light crisp batter and lovely triple cooked chips perfectly cooked. Finally found somewhere that can make fish and chips that doesn't make you feel sick when you've finished eating.
