I was cheaper to stop overnight at The Lodge, than it was to get a taxi to and from the The Olive We were attendintg a tribute night at this venue. The staff were really friendly, even though they were really busy, they were always polte and professional The food was fantastic and well enough for 5 people, we selected various starters to share, also checking to see if any of us had any allergies. The room was fantastic value for money, very clean, bedding lovely and soft, bed really comfortable, had a nights sleep, and a generous amount of coffee, milk and sugar, could not fault it, fabulous place will definatley recommend

Paid £75 for B & B sated in room 8 minus's and plus's:
- Bad sound insulation, unfortunately had very rowdy neighbours, in at 3:40am singing etc, then slamming their door very hard as it was sticking.
- No cover on bathroom light and shower rail rusty
- No curtain in bedroom, horizontal blinds only
- No shower gel in dispenser, but the dispensers looked past their best.
+ Friendly staff
+ Nice cool room on a hot day/night
+ Good sized room, ample storage
+ Clean Linen & Towels, bed throw was stained.
+ Good Parking with CCTV
+ Nice chef at breakfast and some choice, however I think it would have been better to have a pot of tea rather than a cup.
To summarise, a little tired and shabby but fairly good value. Unlucky with neighbours but I wouldn't necessarily let they put me off staying again as the location is great.

We found the hotel on the www and both liked the sound of it.

I called direct and spoke to Martin as I had a couple of questions regarding access as my partner has walking difficulties and uses a stick when not confined to the wheelchair.

My questions were answered quickly & efficiently so we made a booking for 2 nights. Martin even discounted the rate slightly. I guess because he did have to pay a “search engine” commission. I didn’t even have to ask.

On arrival we parked near the rooms and went in to the bar area to check in.

I think there are only a three steps up to the rooms but I do not remember seeing a handrail. There is also a ramp for wheelchairs but this is very tight and I think would be difficult to access in a self-propelled wheelchair.

On entering room 4 we instantly noticed how cold it was and there was a shade missing from one light. The radiator had been turned right down. As there’s a bed against it, it makes it very difficult to access to alter for less abled people.

Whilst on the subject of access.
Not that you would really want to open the blinds as the view from the room is of a brick wall about 6 feet away, you have to climb on the bed to access the blind operating cords. Why these are not at the side of the window is beyond me.
Other issues are with the doors. There’s no handles on the room door which makes it very difficult to open from the inside and close behind you on the outside. The door to the building also has a very strong closer on it which makes it difficult to open from inside or outside. If there was ever a fire elderly, less able and disabled may struggle to get out. You can’t exit by the bedroom window as they are security barred outside.

Once warmed up we found the room to be comfortable and spacious with tea & coffee making facilities. The lighting needs a bit of a sort out as you have to switch a switch near the door to get the bedside light to work.

Also, we did both comment on the small size of the TV though for the size of the room.

The bathroom was functional and spacious if a little dated. Saying that, the shower over the bath is modern looking and easily controllable.

The beds, 1 single & 1 double, were comfortable and the bedding was clean and comfortable. There were also extra pillows in the wardrobe if needed.

The following morning we took the short walk to the main building for breakfast. On sitting down we noticed several very cold draughts.

The chef explained that we help ourselves to cold options & juices, took our drinks order and departed. We moved table to one away from the draughts. I found a heater with a plug labelled “Do NOT switch off” was switched off. There was another heater which I plugged in and switched on to try and help my partner stay warm.

The drinks were brought to our new table and our main order taken.

Not long after, but then we were the only people in the restaurant our cooked choices were brought to us. The food was cooked well, hot & tasted fresh. Unusually the toast was on the main plate rather than plated separately. There was also only one knife each for butter, jam, not marmalade as there was none, and cutting bacon, sausage, egg, etc. We could’ve acquired others from other tables or asked, but I don’t think you should have to ask for the basics.

On our return on the evening we noticed the room had been serviced and additional tea and coffee supplied.

I ventured alone into the bar later that evening & enjoyed the atmosphere and a couple of pints of lager. Looking around quickly I noticed that more people seemed to be drinking lager so I thought I’d try it. The bar staff were efficient and polite & service was quick considering how busy it was. The drinks were cold & crisp & clear. A well-kept cellar springs to mind.

I can’t really comment on the food as I didn’t dine here in the day or evening, but the menu did look good and prices were reasonable. The food brought out for others looked & smelt good though.

Checkout was quick and efficient and we were thanked for our custom & wished a good day.

To conclude I want to say the room once warmed up, the breakfast & the beer were all ok. All of the staff members we encountered were polite, efficient & friendly. I just hope the owners and or management take on board my comments above.

Not good! I chose to drive back home and commute the next morning rather than stay over a noisy pub!

Nothing, unfortunately! The whole experience was very uncomfortable and one that I won't be repeating or recommending.

I had booked and paid a few weeks in advance so phoned the day before my stay to confirm my ETA and to check my room number and location. I was informed the keys would be behind the bar (which I hadn't expected as I had booked into the 'Lodge') I queried this and was assured my room was in 'the Lodge'. When I arrived to check in at the pre-arranged time of around 21:00, the car park was very busy, as was the bar ... with a very hearty rendition of 'Rolling Down the River' being performed by what sounded like every person in the bar (probably a typical Saturday night for the venue, and being out of the area I should probably have checked). However, I dodged my way through the very busy bar area and managed to get the attention of a young man who was serving. It was very difficult to make myself heard above the music and general noise or to hear the reply, but I was passed a key with the instruction 'room 3 upstairs'. Back outside in the car park I looked at the lodge and saw that it didn't have an upstairs so went back into the bar, having to wait again to get someone's attention. The same young man as before told me 'round the back and up the stairs ... I said that my room should be ground floor and in the lodge and he said 'room 3 is upstairs'. The stairs turned out to be what looked like the fire escape at the back of the pub and a chap having a smoke near the bottom of the steps looked at me looking up to the top said 'You staying up there, don't worry they usually finish around 1am! After a long and busy day and needing an early start the following morning I chose not to stay! Luckily I was only an hour away from home! I went back into the bar and handed the keys back to the same young man who didn't even acknowledge when I said sorry I'm not staying!

Company booked a room here above the pub, upon opening the door it stank of old sweaty socks and sour BO it made me feel physically sick , there was no one to complain to, I used a can of deodorant for an air freshener, the place is old and decrepit and I would never recommend any one to this stinking dump.

The rooms are spotlessly clean, spacious and the beds are comfortable, location is ideal just 4 mile from Doncaster town centre in a village called Barmby Dun . Breakfast is good i.e. cereal, followed by a full English plenty of toast ,tea and coffee.we used it as a base for a weekend trip to the horse racing, will definitely be using this hotel again. There is also a very good restaurant attached to the hotel called the olive bar and grill

Just returned from a 2 night Groupon deal, staff very friendly and food good. We had a good room, number 8, however despite my complaint on the first night of having no hot water in the room, was advised it would be fixed next morning, this never transpired, good job we had a shower that gave out hot water.
Breakfast, well the first morning there was no milk for cereal and no staff appeared for a while, the cooked breakfast was good when it arrived. The second morning (today) there was only one person on duty, a young chap called Ainsley, I take my hat of to him, he was actually the chef, he was trying to juggle everything, we had quite a long wait, but it was well worth it, the food was lovely. The managerial team need to listen closely to these comments if they want to get customers to return. More staff needed at breakfast time, it's unfair to expect 1 person to run the breakfasts. Ainsley is an asset to your establishment, along with the other bar and waiting staff. Also regular maintenance checks need to be carried out to make sure everything in working order.
MANAGEMENT TAKE NOTE.
