Cotswold House Hotel & Spa is often celebrated for its excellent location amidst beautiful surroundings, and its cleanliness is frequently applauded, with tidy rooms and well-maintained communal areas. However, guests have called out the spacious rooms for appearing dated, suggesting a need for refurbishment.
While the service receives mixed reviews—some commend the staff's attentiveness, others find it lacking—the atmosphere blends charm with areas of neglect. The hotel's value is questioned by many travelers, who point out high costs and overpriced services, despite some enjoying amenities like the spa.

Detailed Reviews
For a 2 night 'offer' we arrived to a well presented room on the 1st floor overlooking the Square, no fear of traffic noise at night as the shutters had been refurbished and very heavy curtains ensured a light and noise free sleep.
The decor throughout the entire hotel is excellently thought out and presented, superb in fact. The gardens behind the hotel were enchanting, even on a rainy January day!
Dinner on the first night was in the Fig restaurant, we chose the 6 course menu. Wow, chef really excelled on every course, words can hardly describe it well enough.
We elected to try the bar menu on the 2nd night and were equally pleased with that too. Breakfast was served in the barr each morning and was an all encompassing buffet with cooked options included, a really satisfying start to the day.
The Spa is in a separate building at the far end of the gardens and adjoining the private car park, the Spa and indoor pool are small but more than adequate and the treatments excellently and quietly carried out by a very efficient team. We were treated well by Suzanne, Abbie, Ali etc. making us feel good!
The car park is approached from a quiet road, which also offered a pleasant walk (with permitted dogs if required) and enabled us to come out at the beginning of the main road through the town with its unique, grand and and exclusive private houses dating from the 16th C interspersed with shops, cafes, (one attached to a superb delicatessen), hotels etc. Openings between some take you into little hidden gems, including what is quietly denoted as the Post Office, an Alladin's cave of (almost) every conceivable item you could need including a range of computer items!
A delightful Hotel in a delightful small historic town.

We had an absolutely fabulous time at this lovely hotel. The staff are really professional and friendly and the standard of service is high. The food is great. Breakfast has lots of variety, well cooked and the kitchen catered well for any individual requirements. Dinner was really superb. The quality of the food was excellent. Future guests should note that The Fig is shut presently however The Bistro is an excellent alternative with an offering that is above what you might expect from its name. The hotel has beautiful grounds with lots of lovely places to sit and relax. We stayed for 2 nights in The Grevel Suite - superb bathroom en par with any 5 star establishment. The bedroom was beautiful in decor. There is a private small terrace and the suite is easy to stay in if travelling with your dog as it is in the grounds so ready access to the garden. The suite also has a small separate seating area inside with TVs in both that and the bedroom. It has a small fridge. We also stayed for two nights in The Hidcote which is described on the website as The Hottub Cottage (note this is not the same as The Hottub Suite). The room is not so modern and there is no separate seating area - the bedroom and seating area with TV are all one. It has a separate bathroom which is a normal hotel bathroom with a bath and separate walk in shower but not nearly as stunning as the Grevell Suite. The only drawback of the suite is it is a little dark. However the Hottub Cottage has its own proper private garden where the Hottub is situated and again the property is easy to stay in with a dog. The spa is again staffed by lovely people however the pool is very small and some guests found it rather chilly. The steam room is pleasant but only worked for part of our stay. When booking i would advise that if you want treatments you book a long way in advance as they get booked up. Also note that due to covid you can only use the wetside facilities for one hour a day which must be prebooked. We will definitely return.

Another eagerly awaited B&B as part of a walking tour of the Cotswolds’ plum addresses. Again, but now expected, a hot day’s walking is followed by the task of carrying our own luggage to our room from the hotel’s reception, where it must have stood for five hours or more.
A spacious, well stocked and comfortable room awaited us, and it was an enormous pleasure to partake of a refreshing gin & tonic in the quiet, secluded garden before dinner.
It was a disappointment that "The Fig" restaurant wasn’t open, so we were ushered into "The Bistro" for our evening meal. I have to admit at being somewhat taken aback by the prices on the menu, so that settling for the chicken breast with ham hock rosti and tenderstem broccoli at £17 seemed quite a bargain. It was very good though, very enjoyable.
(Other hotel guests must have had the foresight to look at the evening menu before their booking and visit, as there were far more people at breakfast than there had been for dinner).

We stayed here for one night during the week. Check in was simple and the staff courteous. There was a very slight pause as they had lost the room key. We were shown to our very spacious room. Unfortunately, the bubbles and chocolate I had pre ordered for my partners birthday, arrived at the same time as us and were not in the room as requested. Kind of spoilt the surprise a little but at least they brought it (£42 for Prosecco and 4 chocolates).
The room was at the front of the hotel and had two large windows with blinds, shutters and curtains so noise and street lights weren’t a problem. The bed was comfortable enough. There was a kettle and a fridge in the cupboard. The coffee was cheap and looked like the kind of thing you’d take on a camping trip (ration pack style). There was water in the fridge and biscuits in a jar on the sideboard.
The bathroom was Ok but for a hotel charging these prices, I would expect the shower to be in perfect condition and mould free. It wasn’t. There were free bottles of ‘White Stuff’ toiletries in the bathroom but at least one of ours had already been used so we gave those a miss.
The hotel looks ok in some places but is really tired in others. There were stains on the carpet in our room. The carpets on the stairs to the bedrooms looked like they had been borrowed from an old Victorian seaside hotel. Doors and walls need decorating and the overall look was dull and lacklustre. It didn’t feel special.
Breakfast was nice enough. Full English, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, pastries and juices. Filter coffee and teas.
Parking is at the back of the property quite a long walk through a garden. The Spa is also at the end of the garden, so a bit of a pain when the weather is bad.
Would I stay here again? Only if they substantially reduce their prices. I would try somewhere else first.

Had the most lovely time at Cotswold House. We booked the hot tub suite which I would highly reccomend. After reading some reviews on staff being rude I became concerned that I may have felt disappointed because of the price of the room, but actually this was not the case. The lady on reception when we arrived was friendly and helpful and explained what the hotel was doing to follow covid guidelines. Arrived to our room which was so much bigger than I expected. There were instructions on how to use the hot tub which were nice and simple.
We had dinner in the bistro which was lovely. Despite having to close the bistro at 10pm the bar staff offered to serve drinks to the room. Breakfast the following morning was also lovely. You have to pre-order and book your time in advance but this was no hassle at all.
There was a different lady on reception when I checked out. She was also lovely and friendly, asked us how everything was, and what we had planned for the day.
Overall really enjoyed this stay and hope to have the opportunity to return.

Wonderful few days spent in Chipping Campden at this excellent hotel. Generous rooms guanteed a great nights sleep despite being on the High Street side of the hotel (room #5). Luxurous bathroom including all the essential extras. Great to see care and attention to ensure that the condiments for tea/coffee we stored in the fridge (rather than the usual left out on the side). Excellent breakfast that set us up for the day exploring the locality. Nothing was too much trouble when speaking to the staff. We didn't get a chance to sample the spa. Certainly highly recommended. Good sized car park at the rear (although street parking nearby is free too)

We last stayed at Cotswold House a few years back and returned for a one night Special Offer stay that included breakfast, £50 food/drink voucher & £20 towards afternoon tea, which is good value. It is an attractive period building with a great location in the centre of town and thankfully also has its own car park.
The service and helpfulness of the staff was generally good, the exception being inexperienced staff on duty for the afternoon tea. The cream tea had a good selection of food and teas but the let down was the soft bread rolls with smoked salmon and cream cheese. The rolls had long since given up being soft so we asked for fresh smoked salmon sandwiches instead, a request that was met initially by an indifferent response but eventually they arrived. The manager did come and apologise later.
We had a comfortable room on the first floor overlooking the garden- large bed and a bathroom with shower and bath tub.It would be helpful to have a bathroom that had adequate door hooks on which to put towels and also a night light facility.
The decor was starting to look a little tired in places but the room was well equipped with mini-fridge and a good selection of tea and coffee.
Breakfast was served in the attractive dining room which overlooks the high street square. A good selection of food and teas was available but for some reason the only plain yogurt on offer was 0% fat which is not to everyone's liking.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay

We have just returned from a most enjoyable stay at The Cotswold House Hotel. The location and ambiance of the hotel is charming and our (classic) room was spacious and comfortable. We found the breakfast menu to be first rate especially as both smoked haddock and smoked salmon were available without extra charge. Pre-ordering breakfast choices the night before was not a problem and the range and quality of ingredients was excellent. Breakfast staff were both friendly and efficient and we enjoyed 3 excellent breakfasts. We also enjoyed 3 dinners in The Bistro again with excellent service and interesting and well presented food. The menu choice is somewhat limited so 3 consecutive evenings is about the limit of how many times you would want to dine here in the evening. On the first evening there was an additional specials choice but no specials on nights 2 and 3 which was disappointing. A nice touch is the provision of beautiful Robert Welch cutlery which is locally designed in Chipping Campden and gives a real sense of local craft skill in The Cotswolds. We would advise potential visitors of 3 things to be aware of - this is an old and historic property and anybody with mobility issues would need to check their needs in advance as there is no lift so stairs have to be used; the bath in our room was deep with no separate shower and the spray head provided could not be fixed to the wall; security is a potential issue as the room door lock was just a simple Yale lock and both the rear and side hotel doors are open during the day and not locked so external people can easily access the hotel without being seen as we were not aware of any CCTV. There was no safe in our room and we would advise guests not to leave any valuables in their room. The hotel has its own car park at the rear with access from a road at the back of the hotel but it is something of a trek from the car park to the hotel as the hotel has a long garden. Overall a most enjoyable stay in a beautiful part of the world in a hotel with character doing its best to deal with Covid issues although the lack of a hand sanitiser at the rear entrance was disappointing and a deficiency.

Booked a lovely massage with my friend as a treat during our weekend in the Cotswolds. We had a 30 minute massage and used the facilities and we had a really good time. The staff looked after us and we were initially told our massage would cost an extra £10 but this wasn’t the case so they honoured the original price, which was a nice touch. We also received a £5 voucher towards food in the restaurant which was greatly received and encouraged us to have a lovely afternoon tea where we met Lucian, who was also very nice and charming. Lovely hotel and spa, really enjoyed our afternoon and would definitely go back .

Good things: room pleasant, front of house staff lovely, food lovely, restaurant and bar staff superb. Great location, lovely building, beautiful grounds. I didn’t get his name but the Polish gentleman running the restaurant/bar was a delight and just so helpful and attentive.
Bad things: just one, but a big one - the spa.
I’d been very unwell and had surgery last year, so this is weekend was both an anniversary treat and a chance to unwind and feel better. I was desperate for a little spa time and indulgence. I booked ahead in anticipation, longing for that special time.
Sadly, it never really happened.
On arrival at the spa, the reception staff were playing a loud video on a mobile phone and giggling. Bearing in mind that this is an expensive boutique hotel spa, it wasn’t the best first impression. I then got served and was told that there were no robes at all and I’d have to walk around in my swimwear. I was handed a small, hard towel that I could wrap around my waist. Changing facilities were tiny and someone actually came into the changing room to fetch me for my massage (15 minutes early) which felt very invasive. Changing rooms weren’t particularly clean, either.
The massage itself was great. The therapist was pleasant, I think her name was Linda. After the massage she tried to find me a robe and couldn’t and was very apologetic.
Now came the fact that there was literally nowhere to go. Despite being sent a long email by the spa prior to arrival about the capped numbers allowed in there due to it being small, this clearly wasn’t being followed that day. There wasn’t a single lounger free around the pool, there wasn’t a chill out room, the only option I was offered (when asking, no-one bothered to approach) was to return to the single room with a massage bed with unchanged, oily sheets on it and sit on there. Bearing in mind I was a hotel guest who had booked in advance and paid for a treatment, I genuinely couldn’t believe this.
There was no cold water, only polystyrene cups, teabags and a flask. I found myself standing awkwardly in my swimming costume in a corridor trying not to burn my hand on my scalding plastic cup. Reception staff had disappeared at this point. I spoke to a couple had turned up behind me who told me booked and paid for an actual spa day and I felt nothing but sympathy for them as they had nowhere to go, no robes and were standing in reception looking really confused.
At this point I just returned to my room to have somewhere to sit!
It was such a shame and although I’d consider the hotel again, I feel rinsed by the spa and would never go back.

Yes, there is AC in all the rooms
Hi, all of the garden rooms are pet friendly.
Hi Elane
It would depend on the level of disability. There are a few ground floor rooms, including 2 in the main building with walk in showers. However even the ground floor rooms have step access and are not converted for a wheelchair user.
If the guest had some mobility, for example able to walk with crutches it would be ok but not if fully wheelchair bound.
Hope this helps
