Ideal central location for access to all parts of the city..... Extra handy for the gig we attended at the Albert Hall.
Check in was quick and simple once our room was available. Had a drink in the nice bar area whilst we waited . Staff were most friendly during our brief stay.
Our room was on the top floor (7th) at the end of a short corridor which was great as it was very quiet. Good size bed.....more King than a double and very comfy. Small yet more than adequate en-suite was clean and well stocked with towels/toiletries. A handy safe was in the room along with a tea/coffee making facility. Hairdryer was available, handy for the girlfriend. Enough hanging space for 2-3 outfit changes if you stay longer than one night. Decent TV in the room too if you like to watch something whilst relaxing. Decor was clean and tidy.....and the self adjustable air con was good to have.
Check out was swift and straightforward.
Overall a very enjoyable experience.

This is a budget hotel but it is worth so much more than the nightly rate.

Rooms are small...I mean really small, but they are spotless and very comfortable and the staff could not be friendlier or more helpful.
However the number one winning factor for this hotel is the location. It is perfect. Walking distance to all of the city centre, with the Armadale around the corner and public transport in the doorstep.
We stayed for 13 nights and will happily return next time we are in Manchester.

One thing that we really missed, however, was a little fridge in the room. With our long stay it would have been handy to have some milk for tea and somewhere to pop some sandwiches etc.

The hotel is a short distance from the Royal Exchange Theatre and close to all the central shops and restaurants. The rooms are not huge but have everything required for a short stay in Manchester and the king sized bed was very comfortable. MotelOne take the Covid-19 precautions seriously. There is plenty of hand sanitiser and clear instructions on where in the hotel guests must wear their masks. The staff all wore masks and gloves. What really made the stay was the staff. They were all very friendly and provided excellent service at breakfast and at the bar in the evening when we had pre and post dinner drinks.

Upon checking in we were told there was an extra cost to stay as a couple even though we had booked a double bed! The staff were not even polite in explaining just demanding an extra £15, this was not clearly explained when booking. Even their reasoning of saying it was for extra cleaning and towels was nonsense as when we arrived in the room it was already set up for two people with two lots of towels etc. If we had known about this cost up front then we may have booked elsewhere. We also experienced a chaotic fire alarm with staff not clearly explaining to guests where they needed to be. House keeping also came into the room even with a do not disturb sign on the door. Overall the room was fine and clean and would have been a great hotel stay if the hidden costs, staff and early morning fire alarm hadn't ruined it.

This hotel is very strategically located on Cross st. In central Manchester.

For the price, lovely lounge and rooms, missing telephones and fridges though, which is a shame.

The receptionists generally very competent. William was great. Very efficient, check in and out were a breeze.

It is unfortunate though that denied me a free check out at 1 pm. They insisted I check out noon, or else it would be 10 pounds per extra hour. I don’t think this is fair especially given their relatively late check-in time of 3 pm, I am sure it will not hurt them to be accommodating and understanding and allowing me to stay this extra hour in my room instead of the lounge.

Bathroom spacious and clean and well equipped.

I think it is a great hotel for the price. Do not hesitate to book.

Staying here at the moment. Not happy at all. First day room not cleaned or towels replaced. Poor excuse given. I came down this morning and was specific and said can you please clean my room as it needs a Hoover and towels replacing again. The manager said they would and explained they were short staffed but would sort my room out. I’ve just come into not cleaned and nothing replaced. I appreciate this could be an issue re staffing but tell us at the start. Don’t charge full rate when we’re not getting room cleaned and when you get an actual request to clean a specific room, don’t ignore them as you will get a scathing review. Just some basic customer service would work. Tell Us your experiencing issues and don’t ignore a customer’s request. Feel sorry for the night receptionist guy with longer curly hair who had to deal with our complaint twice and went out his way to take care of us. Do better Motel One.

Only bonus to this hotel is its location and the fact that the bed is comfy. However, I would not recommend staying here. The rooms are ridiculously small and there is barely enough room put your bag down. There is no wardrobe space and no vanity space to get ready. The one mirror we had was no where near a plug socket and therefore getting ready was difficult.

The aircon in the room would not go below 19 degrees and the windows do not open. Meaning if you stay more than one night, you’re left in a stuffy room with no fresh air to breathe in.

Staff were not friendly. Cleaner asked if we wanted the room cleaned, we said yes and she responded with “no” and walked off!?

The shower in the bathroom didn’t work properly and was constantly pointing at the wall. The hand soap and body wash are half empty used bottles.

There are many other hotels in the centre, STAY THERE INSTEAD!!

Response from Tamas Szirtes, General Manager at Motel One Manchester-Royal Exchange
Responded 18 Dec 2022
Dear Charlie, Thank you for sharing your feedback, although naturally I wish you had a better experience at our hotel. I am delighted that you found our location to be convenient and our beds to be comfy. It is sad to learn that some features of the bedroom did not live up to your expectations. Motel One's success is underpinned by great customer service, therefore your comments regarding the friendliness of my cleaning team will be addressed in detail. We are proud to be leading the way in sustainability within our industry and reusable soap and gel dispensers are a part of this move, saving tons of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your comments and myself and the team here at Motel One Manchester Royal Exchange hope you have a happy Christmas. Kind regards, Tamas

We had previously stayed in the Motel One in Glasgow so when looking to book a hotel for our trip to Manchester we didn't hesitate to book the one at Royal Exchange.

We love this hotel chain for its quirkiness, the staff are always friendly and helpful and we're made to feel right at home.
Check in was quick, the rooms are so well equipped even though they aren't huge rooms and the bathroom/shower is lovely.

The hotel is only couple of minutes walk to the Arndale shopping, lots of lovely restaurants & pubs/bars within walking distance, close to transport links for the 1,2,3 free bus (takes about 10 mins from Piccadilly station or 15 minute walk), tram & bus stops also nearby.

There aren't many Motel One hotels in the U.K.but let's hope they keep building on their amazing reputation without losing their at home feel.

If you're looking for a hotel in Manchester look no further than Motel One they always seem reasonably priced & are definitely great value for money.

We stayed in this hotel for one night at new year with friends and it was excellent value for money. This hotel had everything we needed for our stay. Our room was on the small side and did not have a great view however we had a good night's sleep and the beds were comfortable and like I mentioned before it was a great price especially for new years eve. This hotel is modern and clean. There was a safe in the room, space to hang clothes and reception can provide an iron upon request. There is no parking at this hotel however there is parking a short walk away and the hotel is in a central location. Checkout was 12pm. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We stayed here at the start of March while in Manchester for a cycling and theatre event.

First impressions left a little to be desired. We walked into reception, three staff members stood chatting and made us feel like we were interrupting. We eventually got served and were given our room key, with no other information apart from it was on the first floor.

We had paid the extra money for the upgraded king size room.
Upon getting out of the lift, we walked along the corridor to the very end, not seeing our room. A tiny sign pointed that it was around the corner, through some fire doors.

As soon as we turned the corner, the temperature dropped, this side of the building was freezing cold. We got in the room, and it was freezing cold also. We turned the heating on full blast, however nothing much was coming out of it, even after an hour of running.

We left to go get lunch and asked at the front desk for someone to look at our heating as it's very cold.

We came back later that day, only one member of staff was behind the bar serving, so we went straight to the room, again it was freezing cold, no notes in the room to say they had looked at it. The only way of staying warm was lying under the duvet with our clothes on!

The room itself was ok, a standard size and small bathroom. The view was of the staff smoking area and car park.

We slept, however picked up a sniffle from the cold night, it didn't get "warm" in the room ever.
The next day I scoped out the area to see why our room was so cold. It was first floor but had a car park under it, so there was no heat from beneath, also the fire escape next to our room was left open at the bottom of the stairs (staff using it to smoke) that's why the entire area was freezing.

We stayed three days in total, and felt it wasn't worth the money, especially the extra we paid for the upgraded room.

When checking out we weren't asked how are stay was or anything about the issue we had reported.

Wouldn't recommend motel one again.
