I was there for a weekend in Manchester.I have had some problems with the people in reception because they wanted to charge my credit card although i had pay. The stay was nice but the negative was the reception. Later on they apologize but i felt inconvenient .
This is the worst hostel I have stayed in. I didn't choose this hostel myself but it was arranged by Choose A Challenge after completing the 3 Peaks Challenge. To begin, there was no lift, no bathrooms on our floor, the lockers were outside our room, there were brown marks on the dorm walls and it generally did not feel very clean. I managed to avoid the bathrooms for the evening and used the ones at the station as heard poor reports from my dormmates. I cannot fathom why someone would choose this hostel, there must be better ones in Manchester for a reasonable price.
Booked 2 nights with a friend when we visited Manchester to see KISS. Hostel location is excellent, 10 minute walk to the Arena and tonnes of great bars/restaurants on the doorstep. Staff were friendly and helpful. Stayed in room 311. Room and bed linen were clean. Shower was cold the first day, but warm the second. Only one bunk of 4 had a curtain, so privacy was a bit of an issue. Sockets weren't beside each bunk, just dotted about room (not a major problem, as we had the room to ourselves). WiFi was excellent throughout the stay. Yes, the bar downstairs is loud. If you're a light sleeper then this will be an issue, but we were both out into the early hours, so didn't have any issues with this. Overall, not a bad stay and a good price for a great location.
Myself and 4 friends had booked Hatters over 4 months ago for the Courteeners gig at Heaton Park. Upon arrival we were told that our booking could not be found, even though we had the reservation confirmation and showed it to the receptionist. The receptionist then proceeded to say it “wasn’t her problem” and said that we should take it up with Hostelbookers - effectively leaving us with nowhere to stay. After one phone call to Hostelbookers, they got in direct contact with the hostel and were initially told two different sets of lies: 1) There was water damage that week and therefore was not enough rooms - nobody bothered to mention this before we got there? 2) There was a mix up with the booking system and they hadn’t received the email Confirming the booking. It was only the next morning that we were contacted by Hostelbookers to say that the hostel had admitted they had overbooked. The only remaining hotel space in the city was either over £1,000, or, as we found out an absolutely disgusting hotel in Salford for 3 times the price of our original booking. Without overstating this, our experience with Hatters Hilton completely ruined what should have been a great reunion for all of us. In particular I would like to single out the female receptionist on the desk on the morning of the 15th June. Her attitude to the whole situation was appalling and she seemingly gave the same treatment to a group of girls who followed us. Chucking 5 lads out onto the street is one thing as most of us can take care of ourselves, but doing the same to three young girls? That’s disgusting. I must however mention the two ladies on the reception at your sister hostel around the corner. (I unfortunately didn’t get their names, however one was American I believe?). They were both incredibly helpful and sympathetic, taking the time to try and help us sort out the situation. This was despite the fact that it was actually nothing to do with them or their particular hostel. Our thanks go to them, as without them we would have been sleeping in Piccadilly.…
We booked a private twin room for the weekend here when visiting Manchester for the weekend. As it was cheap and a hostel we weren’t expecting much. The room was fine condition however the location is awful if you actually want a good night sleep. A bar is next door/underneath and plays loud music Till very late. We could not sleep through it at all. On google we found the bar was closed at 1 or 12pm based on days but the music did not stop until 2am which we had to go see the receptionist at 1.30 as we couldn’t take it any longer! It may be cheap but the price drop is not worth the lack of sleep !
