This place is amazing! Quaint and unique and totally different - amazing! The room is so lovely and is huge. Bathroom also fine. Breakfast I agree wasn't amazing value but the surroundings and lovely cheese and coffee mugs made up for it! Felt really special and I would def stay here again!! Vezeley itself also a great town! Plenty of... More

We first called to make a reservation. Possibilities for parking one's car are somewhat limited within the city itself, but just behind the basilique there's plenty of space. We got the biggest room available, with a rather minimalistic decoration, but tasteful. The window had no curtains but looked out on an inner courtyard, dark enough at night. Breakfast is additionally... More

Staying in the Pilgrims' Infirmary in Vezelay France was quite the experience. Now called Cabalus, and owned by two women, both, I understand to be Dutch but long time residents of Vezelay. The friend making arrangements to stay at Cabalus had great difficulty contacting the owner, confirming the nights of stay, and ensuring that our reservation was secure, however she... More

Staying at Cabalus is one of our stranger travel experiences.Despite booking and confirming, the door was firmly locked on arrival. I rang the electronic buzzer and pounded on the ancient knocker to no avail. Finally a lady came to open up. As I walked through the door, she said, "Breakfast is at 9.30 so perhaps you want to settle up... More

We rented the 38 euro room for four nights and Cabalus is, as the others describe, a truly atmospheric place. BEWARE, however, of breakfast! The hostess failed to mention that this is NOT a "bed and breakfast" and kindly offered coffee, orange juice and bread every morning. Upon departure we discovered breakfast was over 9 euros per person per day!... More

Cabulus is an atmospheric cafe very near the Gothic church of Vezelay. They rent rooms. The room we stayed in was very large. It had one bed, quite hard, a wooden table with two chairs, a spinning wheel, another chair, one large window which looked out onto a delapidated garden and onto the walls of other stone buildings. A little... More

A beautiful building tucked just below the Basillica at the top of the hill with lots of character in the rooms and the cafe downstairs. The room was warm and quiet, even though it has a very high ceiling with stone walls and floor. A great little shower and toilet tucked in an enclave in the room. The breakfast provided... More

We stayed at Cabalus, a 12-century abbey, in medieval Vezelay with friends earlier this summer. I cannot recommend it more. The place oozed charm and atmosphere; might be a bit "funky" for some, but we all loved staying here. Our large rooms were straight out of a Vermeer painting. Beds were very comfortable. Showers (in-room) were adequate, but WC was... More

We were only at Cabalus one night, but out of the 15 days we spent roaming France, I can honestly say this was the best accomodation we stayed in. An ex ancient monestary next to Vezelay's equally ancient Cathedral, the rooms are large and hewn from stone, with country style furnishings and gorgeous artworks. Very simple rooms, with stone floors... More
