The hotel has a wide-range of room types. We stayed in the cheapest one, which were small but (but not as small as what you'd find on offer in, say, Paris). Comfortable for a short stay, No complaints. Staff was nice. Wifi worked well. The breakfast was good and the restaurant space was pleasant, but the lobby/common spaces at the...

Located on rue des Granges. The epicenter, the via Condotti of Besancon. Great small hotel with all comforts and kind welcoming. Love the breakfast room. Windows surrounded by gardens. The entrance is simple yet chic. Unpretentious hotel that has great rooms and good service.

We stayed at this hotel last weekend. The location is excellent, right in the centre with access to good shops and restaurants. One eats very well in Besancon. The reception staff were very helpful and gave good tips on where to eat. Good secure parking is available, it would help if the website included a GPS grid reference for the...

This hotel is ideally located in the centre of the old city and close to many great eateries although it is a good uphill walk to the citadel and the shuttle bus is far from convenient for tourists without a car! We found the seemingly newly renovated room very comfortable and accommodating. The breakfasts were typical French (one day I...

Family of six rented three double rooms for one night. Quiet, clean and friendly staff. The hotel is situated in beautiful surroundings. Good, safe parking area. Spot on for shopping and sightseeing. Everything close to the hotel. Nice quality breakfast with good choice.

I have been staying in this hotel for many years. It has been remodeled and it is now more expensive, that's normal. I like that it is so central. I find the staff friendly, the breakfast good (not included), the parking sur place fine. They tried to book me in a more expensive room but talking about the price on...

Unless you will carry your luggage about 4 blocks from a parking house it might be worth while to secure a parking spot by the hotel for a fee. Hotel is difficult to find, even with a gps. The staff are nice. Our room were large, kept in dark colors, but clean. Free wifi is offered, but all our devices...

Driving to the Hotel de Paris is a bit like a game of Snakes-n-Ladders. Just when you think you are getting close, roadworks block the way sending you back to the start. When you are very close, security bollards pop up barring entry. There is a way in, don’t give up. Staff sent me maps via email, I wish I’d...

Hotel de Paris - fantastic staff, very large rooms, unique decorations, huge bathrooms with great amenities, A/C works well. The staff was definitely wonderful and helpful. Nice location in Besancon, walking distance to restaurants, bars, shopping. Parking was great (reserve ahead). My only complaints were: The bed was very big but felt hard to me (although I'd been traveling a...

We stayed here on a random trip to eastern France and had a fantastic experience. The staff is very attentive and the facilities immaculate. Great location but ask about the pop-up barriers that you have maneuver through to get to the hotel. Will definitely stay there again if we find ourselves in Besancon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In the 18th century this hotel used to be a coaching inn and it represents a History lesson in itself. It was called the “Hôtel de France” and became the “Hôtel de Paris” in 1855. It was the favourite address for a large number of learned persons from the higher realms of culture and politics. Even the stones have retained the memory of Prosper Mérimée who stayed here in 1836, of Jules Michelet the famous historian, and even of George Sand and Colette the unforgettable women writers. From this prestigious place the visitor can find the most remarkable monuments and museums. It is also the starting point for nice walks in the historical town centre, hemmed in by the loop of the river Doubs. The setting gives the feeling of a lively inhabited residence where spring generates a delicious woody smell, rising up from the two inner yards, with their totally safe car parks situated at the back of the buildings. On the shaded terrace the visitor enjoys a luxurious moment of calm and can have a quiet breakfast or relax after a busy day. The view on the roof tops and on the forts which surround the town is fascinating. The sun glows into the quiet yards where the fifty rooms have been totally restored to offer a special moment beyond time. With its contemporary and ancient styles which coexist in harmony, the hotel breathes a real atmosphere of serenity. One will appreciate the particular attention paid to the comfort of the bedrooms. The cosy lounges offer original spaces to rest and meditate and the fitness room is the good idea to keep up one’s form. Two well equipped rooms allow people to organize events and conferences in very good conditions. Thanks to the young and dynamic new owners with their good elegant taste, this “hotel de charme” has become a spirited place with its three star service. It is now a jewel in the heart of Besançon. ... more   less
