This is an expensive two-star hotel! (Keep reading).
To be completely fair, I just want to state that the rooms were quite nice, clean (although the ensuite loo wasn't - but we kept the door shut), the separate shower-room was small/adequate, our room was pleasant and the bed was extremely comfortable, and although the location took a few minutes walk from the station, it wasn't an exhausting distance with wheelie-cases. Floors could have done with a bit of a hoover, but generally okay. There isn't a lift to the upper floors, just the main spiral staircase.
Mark on reception was a lovely fellow, very helpful and knowledgeable about his city.

However......
We paid the equivalent of £8-10 extra for breakfast per person - the equivalent of just less than £100 extra per day for all of us, in addition to the (rather expensive) room rates - and what did we get?? :

ONE stale croissant, and a VERY NASTY woman who took my kids breakfast away from them after they had only had one bread roll, and refused point blank to let them (or us) have anything more!
Both my children are well behaved, well travelled and quiet kids, despite having learning difficulties and other health issues. My eldest child has a food allergy that means he can't eat dairy-type food such as milk or cheese.
And that is all there was: packet cereal, jam, a portion of cheese, a yogurt, plus some (stale) bread on a plate.

This nasty woman actually stood over my boy and demanded in staccato French he eat cereal instead - she was even COUNTING the number of bread rolls consumed by each guest!!
She watched you from the doorway, and waited to pounce.

If she suspected a guest - who had, lets not forget, PAID in advance for breakfast - had consumed more than two bread rolls or pain-au-chocolat each, she would keep returning to the dining room and removing the plate with the rolls on it, deliberately preventing guests from having anything more to eat.
We had to continually ask for the bread to be brought back - which she did with very bad grace.
(It was like a scene out of Charles Dickens!).

Then she was nasty because my little boy had a second small glass of orange juice to wash down his single bread roll. Neither of my children can drink tea or coffee, which was the only alternative.

Apparently, the locals told us, this woman lodges at the back of the hotel and is not even officially a staff member, 'working' illegally and not paying Government employment taxes, etc - which may or may not be so, who knows?
Whatever the fiscal situation, I have never, in many years of national and international travel with my children, EVER encountered a more unpleasant, wilfully unreasonable and nasty person as this female!

The other staff took pity on us and were actually sneaking morsels of food from the kitchen hoping she wouldn't see, so that the children could have something to eat to start the day! But we had PAID for breakfasts that we didn't get.
It might have been funny, if it hadn't been so bizarre, outrageous and upsetting.
My young son is usually a happy-go-lucky, smiling kid, but she frightened him and reduced him to tears.

So, by all means, if you want pleasant accommodation - rooms only - near the centre of Versailles, this hotel is fine for that. But under no circumstances take any children, family or friends there, and certainly do not pay this hotel for food - eat out! There are several good eateries nearby, all within strolling distance.

Finally, I just want to say, I do hope that this weird person has since been removed from the hotel before your visit. Because frankly, no-one, especially no paying guest, should be put through the nastiness, and extraordinary downright meanness, we were mistreated to by this 'non'-employee.
(Pun intended).

None of our group would choose to stay there again, though.
Good luck to you if you do!

I had stayed in this hotel one week, and i must say that it was a terrible experience. First of all it was very cold in the room, so i asked if they can turn on the heat, so in 15 minutes a nice lady had arrived with a screwdriver in order to try budge the jammed radiator mechanical switch. With no result...
The carpet close to the walls was damped from the condensation…
The toilet was disgusting, i had to pull on a bolt with a nut in order to flush.
So i advised you to not stay at this hotel! For 100€/ night is quite a rip off!!!

Nice budget hotel with friendly staff and just a 20 minute walk from the palace and railway station. You could consider staying here when you visit Paris as it is roughly 1:20 hr to get from the hotel to the center of Paris (walk + public transport). Basic room with small bathroom and good free WiFi internet. Breakfast was ok with nice bread, cheeses, fresh fruit, etc. A good deal

The front desk staff were extremely helpful in arranging a taxi to the airport. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the hotel was very quiet, the wifi worked. We got a good night's sleep. The location was a few blocks from the chateau, but you pass by many restaurants, boulangeries, etc., which makes for an interesting walk.

I wasn't actually supposed to stay at this hotel, but rather, at an affiliated hotel a little way away. The hotel that I had booked for had had an "accident", and so, I was moved to this hotel.

It's dingy, feels dirty, and is tiny, for the +100 euros per night. The bathroom is tiny, and has a constant drip, and the staff don't speak English, even though there is a sign that claims that they do. The carpets are worn out, there are no english channels on the TV, the bed squeaks, and I can hear the rest of the hotel.

Don't be fooled by the photos on their website!

I certainly won't be coming back to this hotel, nor will I use the hotel that I had originally booked.

Stayed here for a weekend and price isn't bad, room was tiny and washroom really run down. Staff were friendly but it was frustrating at breakfast when there wasn't enough food laid out for us and other guests wanting to eat and no staff member to be found.

Although "Home St-Louis" is classed as a 2 Star Hotel is should be seen as a B&B. My wife and I stayed here for four nights in February and found the accommodation excellently positioned for access to key tourist attractions but also sited in a quiet location of the city.
The staff are very helpful and friendly and speak some English, offering us good tips on local restaurants. The accommodation needs some TLC as it is looking tired and facilities and services are very limited. The Wifi is free but worked intermittently, particularly in the bedroom. For me, the overall price was acceptable and reflected the type and quality of accommodation offered.

Very quiet district of Versailles. 10 min walk to 2 train stations, 20 min walk to Chateau de Versailles. Room was adequate with unusual arrangement of WC in one corner (enclosed) and a shower + basin in the other. Staff helpful with adequate English spoken.

Take your own kettle and mug if you wish a hot drink in the room.

No nearby restaurants for breakfast and the E9 charge does seem steep (E7 in Paris) but then you do get a sizable cold buffet your money of:
Cerial / museli, croissant, pain au chocolat, yogurt, cheese, fruit juice, hot drinks (inc herbal). However there are a local Tabac, green grocers and 2 pizza type shops nearby for those on a low budget. Personally I perferred La Ferme with a 3 course meal for E20.

If you are wanting to visit inside the Chateau beware of the enormous queues. This hotel is a great launch pad to beat the hordes delivered by the trains from Paris (so many that there are 3 stations to cope with the numbers!). However:
- Buy your tickets online and print them out before you travel
- Leave the hotel at 8am to get to the chateau by 8:30am. By 9am the queue reached the courtyard gates. By 11am it was snaking all over the courtyard, back and forth.
- If you have NOT got a paper copy of your entrance ticket then you have to queue for your ticket and then queue again for entrance - bang goes your day!!

Doing a lot of business travel I get to compare a lot and this one was really terrible. On arrival there was no reservation although i showed the confirmation to the receptionist (no English). After much debate there was a room but it was terrible. The room was small somewhere on the 2nd floor, it had a separate shower which was fine but the toilet was tucked away in a closet it seemed. As for breakfast it was a typical French breakfast so if you like that it is fine, I don't. The rooms showed on the website are not even close to where I stayed in not to mention the shower.
It is in walking distance (15 minutes) from the Palace but that's as much as you get in the neighborhood.

My wife and i stayed in this hotel for a weekend break to celebrate her 40th birthday .It is a 10 minute walk from the train station ( 1 straight rd 1 left turn and your there) do not follow the brown signs with the name of the hotel on as these are aimed at traffic been sent around the one way system ,it of course takes longer. The hotel was just as we expected ,very French, lovely. Mark the guy on the reception was very pleasent and very helpful .Mark recomended a nearby restaurant that was very very good he also gave us directions and other helpful information .The hotel booked us a taxi to go to a restaurant it was very prompt.Everything is in walking distance of this hotel, my wife had heels on and the cobbled pavements where the reason for the taxi....not the distance. The room itself had everything we needed the bathroom had obviously been recently upgraded it was very clean and comfortable (i slept like a log.
It is perfectly located for visitors to the Palace.
