The Hotel d’Angleterre in Versailles is the ideal place to visit the famous château . It is less than 5 minutes walking distance from the main entry of the château, walking through a public garden which is hardly visible from the main streets.
The hotel is very clean and the staff is very kind. They allowed us to use the room an extra 2 hours because my husband participated in a 15 km run and needed to take a shower before leaving the hotel. We were also gifted some delicious croissants! Thanks to this kindness, our stay in Versailles was simply perfect!
Excellent value for money!!

Located at less than 500 metres walking from the entrance of the Palace of Versailles, and with a nice selection of restaurants just around the corner, this hotel could not be better located. In addition to its central location, the hotel is also in a quiet street.
The room I stayed in was fairly small, but more than enough for my needs. The bathroom was well arranged, be it that the opening to get in and out of the shower was a bit on the narrow side. The bed was very comfortable and ideal for resting after a day long of exploring the Versailles gardens. The only thing "missing" in the room was an air-conditioning system, but this was compensated by a sturdy ventilator fan.
Breakfast was as expected and well stocked with a good selection of fruit juices.
The cherry on top of the cake, however, is the staff. People at the reception were all very friendly and helpful and make their guests feel right at home. They even lent me a cable to charge my phone after I lost mine.
I definitely recommend this lovely little hotel, and will stay there again the next time I visit Versailles.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a view on the street, others on the inner court. Even street side rooms are quiet.

Excellent staff input before our visit ref booking. Ideally located near the chateau and also Rue Sartory with lots there to eat drink and make merry. Room was fine. On ground floor. Reasonable size as in France rooms are small and expensive. Very clean and tidy. Breakfast was fine and available early which was a bonus. Sweet small garden. Only minus is short shower curtain ref window opening. They just need to stitch a bit onto the end. However hot water was plentiful and a lovely bath as well. Coffee at breakfast one morning was dreadful. Day staff gave us another one when we mentioned. But then charged us for it. Mmmm. Overall I would recommend. A chilled place. And welcoming. France costs a lot. But it’s worth every penny.

I recently stayed at the Hotel d'Angleterre for 4 nights, but only wish I could have stayed longer. The view from my first floor window overlooking the hotel garden, as well as into the rear of the other local family homes in the nearby street, was quintessentially French and really made me feel part of the Versailles community, as opposed to simply being another tourist staying in a hotel belonging to a multi-national hotel chain. The hotel is situated at the end of a small picturesque street, which was not only peaceful and architecturally interesting (I particularly loved the old wall fountain at the corner entrance to the street - the Palace end), but located no more than a two minute walk from sight of the Palace itself - very convenient for beating the tourist rush!

Breakfast is taken from 7am in a very pleasant room downstairs overlooking a simply stunning back garden; quite the prettiest breakfast room I have ever had the pleasure to sit in. The staff were also very pleasant to me at all times.

Whilst the rooms themselves might not be 'cutting edge', mine certainly was clean and well aired upon my time of arrival and thereafter. I particularly liked the individual Dutch theme of my room, with pictures of windmills on the wall and broadly striped orange and white curtains leading onto a patio terrace (which I did not use). My only slight irritation was the fact there was only one power point in the room which meant I could not watch TV when boiling a kettle, charging my mobile, etc, but it was of little consequence compared to the overall cleanliness and convenience of the hotel.

I would not hesitate to stay at the Hotel d'Angleterre again.

The hotel was clean and very chic French in decor in a quiet street in easy walking distance of the Versailles palace and local restaurants. The rooms are small, characteristic of rooms in French hotels in traditional French buildings, but with all required amenities. Good continental breakfast. The management was very friendly and helpful, very much a family run establishment. My attempts at french were unnecessary as their English was perfect. With their help we dined in an excellent French restaurant just a few minutes walk away. The Palace was just 5 minutes walk - incredibly convenient. An ideal choice for just Euro 70.

In july we stayed 3 pers. in a rather small room, it was very hot during night even we had a fan. The fridge did not work, the hairdryer did not work.
The reception was a mess when we arrived. We did not dare to take the breakfast in the hotel.
We read the review on this website and we were very disappointed of the standard.

I found this a solid choice for the location, but this is one of those "depends on your priorities" moments. The building/carpets/bathrooms are older. The rooms are small but the beds are clean and so are the bathrooms, with the exception of a little mold in a corner or two.

This was NOT a problem for me given that the rate was at least 40€/night less than any hotel I could find in the area, and having walking distance access to Versailles was MORE than worth it in my mind.

The hotel is on a cute little back street and I was able to run around the castle for my morning jog. Fantastic, in my eyes. But I don't care about things like old carpets or tilting stairs - I actually find these things kind of endearing.

This hotel is excellent value, considering it is within walking distance of the Palace of Versailles. It has all the appearance of a boutique hotel while being very much a budget one. My only criticism would be that breakfast was served in the same area as reception and the receptionist has to attend guest checking in and some of the guests were kept waiting for their coffee/tea while he was attending the guests checking in. Perhaps there should be one more person attending the guests who are having their breakfast. Versailles itself is a very pleasant city and has some excellent restaurants near the hotel which stay open late for dinner.

Close to everything. Parking was not a real problem and you did not need the car to go to the Palace.
