Our Bed & Breakfast L'Orangerie is housed in a magnificently restored "maison de maitre' from the 18th century in which many original features have been preserved. Our 5 spacious guest rooms retain the atmosphere from the past but possess modern day comforts. In our beautiful garden you can enjoy several terraces as well as our lovely heated pool and Jacuzzi and there is plenty of space to quietly relax. You can park your car in our private (closed off) yard. Our Orangerie is a spacious and stunning space that is intended for the use of our guests and also the eye-catcher of the house. During spring and autumn breakfast and 'table d'hotes' will be served in the Orangerie but, in summer, meals will be served outside. We are located in the quiet village of Monlegun, an excellent base from which to visit the numerous sights and attractions in the direct vicinity. The medieval "Cite de Carcassonne" which is listed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, is located 2.5 Kilometres away. We are in Cathar Country and at the centre of 5 different wine regions. Enjoy the magnificently flowing vineyards and taste the delicious wines! The area offers numerous possibilities. Relaxation, culture, nature, the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees, etc. Everything within easy reach. What else are you looking for? It will be our pleasure to personally inform you about our region and what there is to do. L'Orangerie is a wonderful place to stay and it offers all the comforts that will ensure you, your visit will be an enjoyable experience. We offer you a very warm welcome! Jeannette en Erik

B&B L'Orangerie is a fantastic place to stay. Jeanette and Eric are wonderfull hosts who do everything to make your stay as perfect as possible. The rooms are very spacious with comfortable beds.. Breakfast was lovely; Some evenings Jeanette cooks for heir guests. This was very tasty and gives you the opportunity to meat the other guests. Its also convenient because then we hadden't go out for eating in a restaurant every evening. The garden with al lot of shadow and the pool are the perfect place to hang out in the afternoon after visiting Carcassonne and his surroundings. Higly recommend!

We’ve just returned from a wonderful stay at L’Orangerie. Jeanette and Erik are amazing hosts who go the extra mile to make sure you have a perfect stay. The accommodation is beautifully appointed in a peaceful location. The garden, pool and hot tub are a perfect place to relax after a day out and the honesty bar is a really nice touch and extremely good value. Breakfast is freshly prepared each morning and is delicious. We hope to return one day and would highly recommend.

My husband and I stayed for 5 days at L'Orangerie at the end of June 2022. Erik and Jeanette are amazing hosts and they made us feel welcome from the start. They were full of great recommendations and Erik called ahead and got us reservations at a few restaurants. People in the community clearly love them as well, as we were greeted warmly when reservations were made by them. The house is beautiful. The breakfast and coffee are served with a smile and were delicious. They have a great little honor bar that's stocked with wine and beer to enjoy by the pool. Or, when the weather is foul, in the hot tub. :) We were able to walk down to the city (it's like a 25 min walk, if I recall correctly) and it's a great launching spot for day trips to loads of interesting sites in the area -- old city of Lagrasse; day trip to Collioure and drive down the coast into Spain, and loads of great wineries to explore. Highly recommend!

The house is beautiful and clean. The rooms are tastefully decorated. The bathroom is great. However, I was a bit disappointed when it came to the hospitality aspect of our stay.( I only write this review after we finished our one month trip in France and were able to compare the hospitality we received everywhere else. ) We arrived at L'orangerie during a crazy heat wave. It was 107 degrees F. We ended up arriving 1 hour prior to official check-in time. And I know, we were early, but we had a 2 and a 4 year old and we took a toll road that was quicker than the original road we were going to take. When we arrived, rather than be told we could stay in any downstairs common area or even outside until our room was ready, we were just told to come back in an hour. It was the rules that check-in was at a certain time. So we tried to go for a walk then ended up waiting in our car because it had AC. To me this wasn't enough to damper my stay, I just figured they were rigid with rules. That night it was 96 degrees F in our room and my poor 2 year old couldn't handle it. So the next day I told them we had to leave to find somewhere with AC. They said they understood but would have to charge us the full price for all of the three nights. They said that that was "the rules". I do understand and I know it is their business and they need to make their livelihood, but the whole interaction was very cold. Just a warning for anyone else who may need flexibility and/ or accommodation...that you may not get it here.

Response from Erik Blaauboer, Eigenaar at Bed & Breakfast L'Orangerie
Responded 21 Aug 2022
Bonjour, after your husband Brendan Sullivan, you are of course very welcome to leave your review. Like I said before, it will not affect us, it will just make things clear. If there are 1, 2 or 3 bad reviews out of hundreds... it probably tells more about the writer of it then it does about us. No further comments from my side. It's ALL about respect... As from second one we knew this wouldn't be a happy marriage. If people can't even respect their own promises... We are definitely not rigid with rules, but very sensitive to respect. It needs 2 to tango !

This was our third stay at L’Orangerie and we have already planned our fourth visit. Jeannette and Erik are just brilliant hosts and nothing is ever too much trouble. The rooms are gorgeous, the beds are super comfy and the breakfast is delicious. We love that we can walk to La Cité every day and then come back and relax by the pool and help ourselves to drinks from the honesty bar. Our favourite place.

We came back to L’Orangerie having stayed with Jeannette and Erik 4 years ago. We cannot praise the place enough.

The building itself is so beautiful and every room has such charm. The rooms are spacious and clean and have everything you would need.

The breakfast every morning is fresh and delicious - bread, croissants, meat, cheese, egg. The perfect start to each day.

The honest bar is a wonderful idea, and we made use of it every day in the warm weather.

We walked to La Cite every day from L’Orangerie. The garden and pool are perfect for relaxing. It was too hot to use the hot tub this time, but it’s also brilliant!

Finally, Jeanette and Erik are the best hosts. Nothing is too much trouble. They show genuine interest in how their guests are and how they can help. They really are just what you need on holiday.

Thank you again!! We’ll be back!!

We stayed for three nights in October 17 and everything was graet. Hosts, who are both very nice, have been in the business for 4 to 5 years so they are experienced and it shows. Good suggestions for day trips and restaurants, excellent breakfast and a good spacious and spotless room. We're sure you won't be disappointed if you choose L'Orangerie.

My boyfriend and I came here for our first holiday together in October 2014. Erik and Jeanette were so welcoming, Erik came to pick us up from the local airport on arrival and Jeanette gave us a tour of the house. Our room was beautiful, gorgeous decor and completely spotless. The bathroom, too, was excellent. The shower especially was fab! Towels were provided for both the shower and pool, as well as tea and coffee in our room which was filled each day. Erik and Jeanette assured us just to ask when we needed anything, including access to the hot tub which could not be faulted! There was also a fridge always fully stocked in the dining area which guests could help themselves to for a very reasonable price. Breakfast was beyond amazing!! We cannot describe how much we loved it: a selection of breads, crossaints, meats, cheese, egg, jam and Nutella were provided. The maid was lovely and always made us fresh tea and coffee, and Jeanette asked how we would like put eggs as well as insisting we ask for more should we still feel hungry (but the spread was so good we never had to). We were invited to eat dinner with our hosts 3 times during our stay along with the other guests, and gladly joined each time. Jeanette's cooking was delicious and we had great fun dining with everyone! As neither my partner or I can drive, we spent a lot of our time walking to the Old Town of Carcassonne "La Cite" which is only around a 25 minute walk from the hotel (but the weather was excellent so we didn't mind). One day Erik insisted we had a tourist day and took us to the attractions we would have otherwise missed out on: Châteaux de Lastours and Gouffre de Cabrespine. Erik had no problem with waiting for us while we spent 2 hours exploring the castle which was breathtaking as well as an hour in the caves. Erik and Jeanette went over and above the duties of hosts to make our holiday the best it could be. It was an amazing first holiday all thanks to our excellent hosts and we would not hesitate to return in the near future.

We booked early in the year when it had just opened and there were very few reviews available. About a week before we travelled, we checked up on how things were progressing and found amazing reviews. Being sceptical by nature, we thought that these were probably on the generous side.
What a suprise... L'Orangerie and it's wonderful proprietors lived up to and exceeded our expectations! The room was very large, spacious and well decorated. We could walk into town. Breakfast was great with a wide choice...and the format encouraged conversations with other guests - learning where they had been etc.
Jeannette and Erik were ideal hosts... helpful, caring and great fun!
