Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Looked good on trip adviser but this hotel was of a poor standard. The check in and welcome were good but as we went up the stairs to our room the smell was a bit off-putting. I think this came from the stair carpet which was well used. The room itself was very small and the en-suite tiny. The shower was surrounded by a curtain that trailed on to the shower try and the door was a plastic folding screen. During our time there we never saw another guest. The location is fairly central close to the main station and the main square.

The moment you check-in you know if your comfortable or no and that was the case at Hotel Nova, lovely family run hotel, we did not know that there wasn't an elevator but the staircase was beautiful and the owner helped me with the bag (need that kind of help when your travelling with family). Montpellier is great and a pleasant surprise as to how nice the city is. Recommend all guests coming to this hotel to not drive hoping the location will get you to the lobby and its better to drive to the Gambetta parking 500 metres away from the hotel.

From the bottom of my heart I'm thanking the owners of this hotel. Apparently it's been going down many generations in this family and since they are caring so much for the customers I feel obligated to share my words about the amazing stay we had. Read more about why it was good below. The price is alright, the location is even better, but the service they provided was beyond my expectations. The day we were going home it was raining the whole day, and we thought about paying for a day-room, but they let us use the breakfast hall to relax for several hours and feel as comfortable as home. The owners lives there so it feels like a home in many ways. Thank you for being so kind to us through everything. We will come again!

Location is central and the reason we booked this establishment, but it is one of the worse places I've ever stayed at. The lobby is smelly and it feels generally badly cleaned. Stay away from this place!

We come to Montpellier in the summer for the Estival (Friday night wine and food street festival) and shopping. We always stay at the Hotel Nova. It's in a great location just behind the Comedie and surrounded by hip shopping streets and restaurants and we can walk from the train station. The owner is a nice helpful guy and he always makes us feel very welcome. And he speaks English very well.

Chose this hotel for being within walking distance from the train station. Is located in a quiet street. I was impressed at how organised and to the point the owner was. No small talk, no time wasting, but you still felt welcome and cared for. The room was satisfactory and had a pleasant scent, window had double-glazing, there was free wi-fi in the room. The only not up to standard feature was the bathroom, but since we were only staying overnight I wasn't too bothered. I also wasn't too excited about the 'no food in the room' policy - it's understandable, but then I'd have liked to have a place in the lounge where I could have a meal... So we had no choice but to dine in a restaurant and naturally came back with our clothes filled with cigarette smoke stink (that's absolutely horrible about France, smokers everywhere!). The owner graciously allowed us to leave our bags at the reception on check-out until we left town later in the day. Overall, I'd say this hotel is a reasonably good choice for an overnight stay if you absolutely have to travel through Montpellier.

The other complimentary reviews on this place brings Tripadvisor into disrepute. In our one nights experience - - carpets filthy & very old - no air con fan yes - showers so unclean we had to use flip flops -the bed covers were so un inviting that (like another reviewer) we slept on top of the beds - we landed in late with two kids & though we tried unsuccessfully to find somewhere else we reluctantly slept on first floor - very rowdy from street/bar till all hours - had no breakfast so can't comment In all I would encourage the owner (a nice enough French guy who did give us €20 discount bec he could see we were livid) to either spend a little & renovate & keep the place clean or get out of the game. Running hotels isn't easy & guests are entitled to comment when things are honestly appalling. -

Hello Mister O'SULLIVAN thank you for your annotation. the room that you have is the number 1 and we change the floor inside now, it's a wooden floor and not a carpet. the client who came 1 week before you made painting inside and we are not arrive to clean it. The bar near my hotel is close from 20 june and reopenned the 25 september, the noise don't came from the bar. We are sorry for the bad night that you pass and when you come to see me and say to me that you want to leave, i tell you to be careful because MONTPELLIER was really full every where and i don't want you and your kid in the street without room. anyway, after you departure ( 2 weeks after ) we change all the floor. everybody can see the new room number 1 on the booking system. We are not playing a game, i manage this building from 20 years and we made a lot' of renovation very expensive. Some are visible, some are not. Thank you Mister O'Sullivan and sorry that the night that you pass in my etablishment wasn't good.

Montpellier is not one of France's best cities to visit, there are creeps tugging your shoulder for money at every corner, they rip people off at supermarkets, half the town is in ruin during new tram rooadworks, and smokey restaurants have terrible food. This made Nova hotel the brightest spot of our Montpellier experience, the room was safe and decent, and the owner was the most organised person Ive ever seen. The good: super organised owner has everything under control and knows everything, close to sncf station, good bed, free wifi albeit slow The bad: no food allowed in the room, no air conditioning and too noisy with open window, rusty shower, town is unremarkable and unpleasant Bottom line, this hotel is good for an overnight stay, but Im never visiting Montpellier again, many much nicer other cities in France and elsewhere.

We stayed for 2 nights We got great recommendations for sites and restaurants. And when our rented car dropped dead in front of the hotel, and we had to wait for 2 hours while blocking the entrance to the neighbors' parking, the hotel manager helped us deal with the angry french tenants. We had a great experience. Do note that although the stare case is beautiful, there is no lift... So take a room in the lower floors if you're not in shape.

This is a modest hotel in a charming building with very friendly service. It was a budget choice but our room was quite large with two double beds and quiet despite the central location near the Opera. Don't expect modern plush anonymity but do expect systems that work and all the basics you need in a hotel. Our host was charming and helpful. He was happy to tell us the history of the building which is interesting. We had a very pleasant two days.
