We stayed for four nights in the garden room. It has its own small garden which was brilliant for our elderly dog. The room was large with separate shower and separate toilet. The room was clean and airy. Breakfasts were of a good quality although not massive but enough for us. Loved the pub in the evening. Our dog was made welcome and enjoyed all the fussing he got. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful.

I think the point of reviews is so you know what to expect . So - The hotel is fine, it has the feel and decor of a tidy pub. its clean, well maintained and the man at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The room itself was good. It was also clean, had tea, coffee and biscuits. It is on the pricier side, but I think if you don't mind noise, a mattress that probably needs turning - then this will be fine. But for us, the main problem was noise and overpriced food- the walls and doors are paper thin, we could hear next doors TV very loudly for hours. Folks going to the toilet (and I don't mean the flush) through the wall. The evening meal in the restaurant - the restaurant itself was also well maintained and attractive, but £30 for two small microwave shepherds pies, with some frozen veggies on the side was crazy expensive, but the staff were polite and prompt. The complimentary breakfast was a nice, and not just toast and jam. The waitress at breakfast was doing all of the work more or less alone, was very polite, and she had amazing flamboyant glitter make up, which my make up artist partner thought was wonderful and wanted her to know! …

Thank you for your feedback. We are a listed building and have sound proofed as much as permitted and this is not a usual complaint. For the record ALL our food is homemade and not microwaved frozen meals and the vegetables are all local FRESH vegetables. I am sorry if you you were disappointed.

Stayed here for two nights as our base for visiting a nearby winery. We were greeted by Andy (I think?) who was doing a great job keeping the plates spinning, and our first reaction was just how well run and friendly this hotel is. We stayed in an outside room, and it was spotless. On the first night we ate in the hotel restaurant, and the food was not only outstanding, but there was plenty of it. At breakfast a gentleman introduced himself as the co-owner, a nice touch. Overall, the accommodation, food and staff were faultless. It's 200 miles from home, so we are unlikely to be 'just passing' anytime soon, but when we next visit East Sussex, this is where we'll stay...

Beautiful building in a great location with excellent bar and candle lit dining areas. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay which made it feel like a special occasion. Our room (room 5) was very clean but a bit of a letdown due to the smell of damp which was probably due to no window or extractor in the bathroom. The shower over the bath was poor and the mattress on the bed should be replaced. Apart from these issues we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was very good and if eating in the restaurant I would recommend the steak pie and cheesecake of the week. We would definitely return but would request a different room.

This venue is located less than 1 mile from Rye centre which is walkable in just over 15 mins. We stayed in a garden view room which was en suite, clean and pleasant. The cooked breakfast was 'clean' ie not greasy and the staff lovely. There is an added bonus in that the venue is an Inn which has a small bar area which appears to get used by 'older' locals and as such I doubt that it gets rowdy at all. This is a good venue, well placed for Rye, if you want to keep your budget a bit tighter than some other local accomodations.

Our third visit. Very enjoyable and comfortable stays. Excellent meals and choice of menu. The staff are first class, efficient, helpful and very friendly, and that makes it special. Rooms comfortable and well-equipped. Restaurant intimate, makes for memorable meals. All round, this is simply a lovely and very special place in a good position for exploring locality.

I dont normally leave reviews, but I felt that I had to. Stopped off for an impromptu late lunch, and it was the best decision to eat here. Plenty of parking, amazingly friendly staff, clean, comfortable, and really homely. The food was gorgeous (definitely have the steak and ale pie!), and the portions are very generous. Both Kim and the barmaid were so friendly and welcoming. The chef was really accommodating, making up a smaller portion for my 10 month old who is weaning. 4 very happy customers who left 4 very clean and empty plates! My family and I will definitely come again when passing - especially as apparently my son thinks the bangers and mash is better than mine!

The building is beautiful and the male staff member who did nearly everything is superb too. Room stunning and well appointed, hot water for bath actually in the room, separated by a screen was sensationally slow. Round bed comfortable, but could hear all sounds from the bar below but it did stop reasonably soon after bed. Breakfast on the other hand....one element sadly unavailable and missing, "waitress" offered us orange juice and proceeded to put her fingers inside the glass to carry them to the side to serve the juice! Seriously yuck!! Sausage was superb. Overall a great stay with a few serious glitches

Stayed in room 3 which was one of the round rooms. Very spacious. Didn't like the bath in the room, we prefer a shower. However, that's our fault for not asking when booking. Did have a screen but needed to move that to the side as gap between blind and window. Breakfast was delicious, using very good quality produce. Only thing I missed was some fresh fruit salad. Ate in the restaurant all 3 nights as we enjoyed it so much. Food was excellent apart from 1 meal on last night. But staff dealt with it very professionally. Would definitely recommend both the rooms and restaurant.
