This is a difficult one to review. Outwardly it looks great and you can see the different choices of rooms including a pet friendly one which appears fully enclosed so your precious pooch won't escape. We didn't bring our!!
Our single night stay was in one of the oast"s round bedrooms. It looks splendid there's a bath tastefully hidden away behind a screen. My partner and I found that arrangement satisfactory. What was slightly less satisfactory was the separate toilet which although there was sufficient room for a small or even abigger basin didn't have one. That merely niggled as you can of course use the bathroom sink. The rest of the room was well equipped eith free toiletries, a hospitality tray with a great selection of teas and a few biscuits. There is a freestanding wardrobe which had plenty of room and there was an iron and ironing board located inside.
Other facilities were a flat screen TV a decent number of power sockets including charging points for phones. Overall all so good but the room is a bit tired so decoration isn't as criso as it deserves to be and I'll not complain too much about a cobweb in the toilet as we are in the country and the farm where my partner lives has plenty of them. It would have been nice if housekeeping had flicked their dusters with a tad more enthusiasm .
Still on the room I was worried that as it was directly over the bar it might be noisy as there was a fair amount of noise transmission evident in the afternoon when we booked in and before we left for dinner. Either the bar closed early or we had wined and dined too well in another location in the town of Rye that I certainly did not notice nighttime noise.
The only bit i really didn't like was the breakfast. Coffee was not great but my partner who had gone down earlier than I did warn me. It's one of the bugbears of us metropolitans that proper, strong coffee we are so used to doesn't feature in many countryside pubs, cafes znd restaurants. Point made.
O.K I'll make another one as I found my full English breakfast underwhelming. Maybe i should have used the seasonings more heavily but I'm hypertensive therefore reluctant to overdose on salt even though I know that will pep up the flavours of most food. I'll leave that there. The quantity on offer was adequate although if you're looking forward to a hearty breakfast you might have been disappointed, we weren't as our dinner the night before was excellent so breakfast wasn't our priority.
That's it, a bit of a curates egg is my verdict. Some lovely and charming things but a couple of niggles some of which can be easily rectified.
I'd go back, OK that should be we'd go back as my partner found most things adequate enough and she doe live in the countryside so deals eith weak coffee on a regular basiS, and I really like the round bedroom!!!

Booked for one night as a birthday trip to Rye. On checking in, we were welcomed by Kim, who gave a brief rundown on the building facilities, what time dinner and breakfast were being served.
We stayed in room 5, a double with en-suite. The bedroom and bathroom were both spotlessly clean. If being extremely picky, there were a chips in the paintwork, but honestly, this adds to the charm. I don't want to stay in a modern hotel room with perfect paintwork - charms works all day long on me!
There is also a very helpful guest handbook - it has the usual health and safety notices, but also sample menus for the on site restaurant, a list of local taxi companies, walks in the local area etc. Also in the room were a kettle, with the usual teas and coffees, a glass and bottle of water on each bedside cabinet. There is a large wardrobe, with an ironing board, fan and heater. Bathroom had travel size soaps, shampoo and body wash (the lemon one was lovely)
I am an extremely fussy eater but had a 3 course meal in the evening and a veggie breakfast the following day. Partner ordered different food in the evening and a full English for breakfast. Neither of us had anything negative to say. The food was excellent throughout.
When we arrived on Tuesday evening, Kim was working the front of house alone. So running the bar, taking orders and serving the food and answering the phone. At no time, would you have thought there was only one person running the front of house. We have stayed in similar sized properties with more staff and had less service. Kim made everything such a smooth service.
I would recommend this property to anyone and if I could give 6 stars I would!

Called in for dinner as my partner was fascinated by Oast houses and wanted to visit. Meals were of excellent quality and very fresh, definitely not microwaved as some claim. Prices were in keeping with the area and value for money for the quality on offer.
Staff were welcoming and friendly.
The "Long Man: bitter was well kept and very drinkable.
We returned for a second visit the next day, which proved an enjoyable end to our holiday. Hope to visit again soon.

We booked the two Oast House rooms and these were good, however, we were very disappointed in the breakfast the next morning. They ran out of milk, yoghurts and cornflakes! The coffee was stewed in the machine and the bread/toast was cheap white bread. Guests were asked to use the tiny long life milk pots on their cereal! They were seriously under resourced on staff with the lady (who was doing her best) serving breakfast and then according to her, cleaning nine rooms!! I'm very disappointed and looking for some compensation as we paid a premium price.

A weekend break away in the Playden Oasts Inn was a lovely chance to get away and see some of Sussex.
From when we arrived until we left after a weekend break the whole experience was wonderful.
We stayed in a round room with the quaintness of the bath/shower behind a screen but the Inn had all the amenities that you would expect to find in a larger hotel.
Nothing was too much and we enjoyed the restaurant for a large sized portion of inviting food with plenty of choice.
The stand out for us in this inn was the service, the Inn team worked hard to make you feel welcome and both dinner and breakfast was as we would expect made even better by the chatty, friendly staff.
Much of the original kilns can still be seen and we were fortunate enough to see behind the scenes one of the large kilns.
I read some of the previous reviews but would say that our experience for the 6 of us was as good as we would want.
Thank you Playden Oasts Inn, I would recommend you.

A lovely little hotel close to Rye. We stayed in one of the round rooms and the bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept in. The bath in the room behind the screen might not be to everyone's taste but I liked it - if anything I'd move the TV so I could watch it in the bath! The DVDs available are a nice touch . The room was lovely and clean. We didn't eat there in the evening but had a few drinks in the bar and soon got in a conversation with one of the locals and it has a nice atmosphere The breakfast was really nice - a good size , freshly cooked to order and good quality. The staff were really friendly. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Tiny scruffy room that smelt of used cooking oil on the outside and damp on the inside (smell came from towels and the comedy sized shower inside a small cupboard without a working extractor fan. Toilet seat hinge was loose on one side and urine stained on the other. The milk at breakfast ( a jug on each table ) was sour on both mornings. No white bread available on the second morning. The cook said it wasn't his problem, so a guest drove to a shop to get some. If you look at the pictures on the web site this is how it looked some time ago. All these things and more were pointed out to the owner and have been mentioned in previous reviews which suggests that nobody cares. A final note on the price and value for money. we paid £115 per night which was higher than the direct price with the hotel for their best room. we were put in a "budget room" so well done Booking.com for charging a booking fee ( The owner told us this) I always thought that booking agents shared their discount?

You booked a basic standard double. You stayed two days out of the three booked and at no time during the two days you stayed did you voice any complaint although I was available. I had arranged a birthday cake at your request for your wife and you did not have the curtesy of cancelling or paying for. I have received no other complaints from people who stayed the same time in fact have received very positive reviews which anyone can view. I dismiss your comments on the room as it has recently been decorate. IF THINGS WERE SO BAD I DO QUESTION WHY YOU STAYED TWO DAYS/NIGHTS WITHOUT COMPLAINT DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. When you left you’re attitude was very aggressive and offensive.

There is no need to spend hours searching for a place to stay if you intend visiting Rye. From the moment we arrived we could not have been made to feel more welcome. Kim ( the owner ) should be very proud of what she has to offer. Jamie and Amy were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble and they catered for every whim with a smile and a laugh. A real credit.breakfast was a knockout with piping hot freshly cooked traditional English breakfast or any combination that took your fancy. We had one evening meal there ( out of a two night stay ) and this was once again superb all cooked to order in a really homely classy restaurant. The ample seating in the beautiful manicured gardens were a delight to sit in and while away an hour or so chilling out and admiring the fantastic old school hop chimneys that we’re the centre point of this enchanting rustic inn. The room was spotless and comfortable and even though we only stayed for two nights we were made to feel special and treated like old family friends. You will have to be lucky to book as there are only 8 rooms but this all added to charm and general feeling of being treated as special by all the members of the great team that Kim has assembled. We spent a couple of special evenings, after spending long days exploring the many charming sites and old world curiosity shops and quaint little tea rooms and spectacular churches and castle ruins, just chatting away like long lost friends, in the lovely old school bar area. One thing I sadly forgot was to find out the name of the lovely woman who served breakfast. Once again she was a jolly, happy member of the team who found nothing was too much trouble to serve her guests. We found the whole experience charming with a great old time inn if you go anywhere you should make the Playden Oats your number one choice. Thanks again. Terry and Josie ( room 6 )

The building is beautiful and the male staff member who did nearly everything is superb too. Room stunning and well appointed, hot water for bath actually in the room, separated by a screen was sensationally slow. Round bed comfortable, but could hear all sounds from the bar below but it did stop reasonably soon after bed. Breakfast on the other hand....one element sadly unavailable and missing, "waitress" offered us orange juice and proceeded to put her fingers inside the glass to carry them to the side to serve the juice! Seriously yuck!! Sausage was superb. Overall a great stay with a few serious glitches

Arrived early as we were organising a family gathering and wanted to let hotel know who got what room. Was really surprised that the staff member, Dave was exceptionally helpful and had some rooms available at 11am. This was the start of how it went all weekend, nothing was too much trouble. For the price and location the rooms were excellent, clean warm with all usual amenities and some extras. Food was of a good standard and variety for this sort of establishment, especially breakfast, quality products. Altogether a really pleasant experience especially as it was a quarter of the price of some places in the town. Please disregard any negative reviews, these people work hard to make your stay pleasant, remember this is not the Ritz at £800 a night, but a small historic country Inn. If in the area I would return, and I am a seasoned traveler, having stayed in all sorts of establishments from small Inns like this to Shangri La’s worldwide.
