We booked a three night stay in Nice with friends and chose this hotel because of its location and reviews. Le Grimaldi is ideally situated within reach of everything in Nice and our room was clean and had some style. The lift was a bit antiquated but this is a boutique hotel with a lot of history and a lot of charm.

The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast area is small and was busy but the very attentive staff made sure that the tables were cleaned quickly and food replenished. There was plenty of choice at breakfast. Coffee was from a rather slow machine but perfectly adequate. We enjoyed the experience.

The staff at the hotel were all very friendly, helpful and there when you needed something but not overpowering. Well done to the management fir getting the balance just right. We particularly liked the ‘yummy’ cart by the front door which contained drink and little sweets and goodies that we could enjoy as we passed by. A really nice and different touch.

We have recommended Le Grimaldi to several friends and would definitely stay again.

We loved the location with it being walkable to train station, beach (10 minutes), shopping, restaurants and the Old Nice. We also loved the staff, and the cute little balcony with our room (52). The balcony was terrific to relax after a day of sightseeing (it had one chair but am sure you could ask for an extra one). Free coffee, tea and water in the lobby is nice. The bathroom is outdated and could use a remodel. The style of the room is older too as it is a historic property, so if modern is your preference, this would not be it. The breakfast buffet was really lovely with many fresh choices. There’s a little patio courtyard to enjoy your breakfast if you wish to sit outside. Unfortunately they allow smoking outside in the small courtyard so it wasn’t as pleasant eating breakfast on the outdoor courtyard patio as it could have been since there were smokers there everyday when we were eating breakfast. The hotel might consider having a back alley smoker area instead if there’s a sidewalk or something in the back of the property (so non-smoking guests don’t have to breath in second hand smoke).

The location is really excellent if you want to take a break from the beach or shopping midday, and then go out again after.

We loved how happy, nice, and really helpful the staff were, especially after a long journey to get to the hotel. Upon request, they even provided beach towels which was great for our relaxing day at the free beach walking distance nearby. The rooms were very clean too. The staff gets 5 stars.

Hello, we thank you for the comment you left us. Each review allows us to improve. We are happy to read that you liked the location as well as the staff who are looking forward to seeing you again. The balcony is very nice to relax on, indeed, and an extra chair can, of course, be requested. We advocate a vintage Nice style with deliberately old-fashioned in-room amenities, which many of our guests appreciate. We do have complimentary tea, coffee and water at the reception, we are glad you liked it. We are really happy to read that the strong point was the staff. We try to go the extra mile for our guests and that is great to hear. A big thank you to you for taking the time to leave such a detailed comment. You help us a lot in our quest for excellence. Please feel free to call us and come back anytime, we wish you a wonderful summer!

Working in Nice for ten days we chose this hotel based on the reviews and what a great choice it was!!! The location, although only a short walk to the centre of Nice, is quiet and with a car park only a short distance from the hotel is very convenient. The breakfast was wonderful as was Sandra who entertained us every morning. It became more a home than a hotel, and having stayed in numerous hotels around the world we appreciate this isn't easy to achieve. Thanks to Victor and all the staff at Hotel Le Grimaldi for making our stay so memorable, we are already looking forward to our next visit!!

We booked this hotel for 2 nights and our first night was extremely disappointing. The room was far too small and could only accommodate a one and a half size bed. The space around the bed was extremely limited which meant that my wife if I had to sit on the bed so that I could get to the bathroom.

The balcony doors let in a cold draught despite being fully closed and the safe in the bedroom was broken. The shower head in the bathroom did not create a spray pattern and appeared to be partially blocked. We found it very difficult to have a shower and and the bath was half size so that you could not lie in the bath as an alternative.

In our opinion the room was only fit for single occupancy but even then it's shabby condition would still make it unacceptable. We complain to the manager of the hotel who said that the hotel was fully booked and that we would not be able to change rooms until the next day.

The next room we were given was considerably better both in size and condition despite being the same classification of room by the hotel. This one had a unique charm about it and it is a shame that we were given such a disappointing room for our first night.

My final complaint was that the breakfast buffet on the first morning was overwhelmed by the number of guests which meant that our table was touching the adjoining table. The tables are very small and the lack of space made the restaurant and our experience feel very unpleasant. It was not helped by the fact that the quantity of guests in the the restaurant meant that as soon as an item was put on the buffet it was emptied and it took at least 10 to 15 minutes to refill quite apart from the fact that we had to spend 5 to 10-minutes queuing at the coffee machine whilst it dispensed single cups of coffee at a rate of 3 or 4 minutes at a time.

A sign of a good hotel is that it can cope when it is full and I regret to say that on this occasion the hotel did not perform.

We booked this holiday with BA & this is the first time we have ever been disappointed with the accommodation. Our bedroom number 24 (supposedly superior) was so tired & it really needed TLC.
There was insufficient light in the room, wall sockets dropped off when an item was unplugged, wires trailing from TV. Noisy A/C meant it had to be turned off over night. A nice wicker chair in the room was broken but no cushion so it stuck in you when you sat down. Big rip in the wallpaper, no tea tray in room although it is advertised as having one, (one was supplied when we asked where it was) Telephones not working in the hotel meaning you had to go to reception whenever a problem arose. No tariff or room type displayed on the back of bedroom door. TV lost English channels on 2nd day & they were unable to reinstate. Bathroom was tiny but needed basin sealant to be replaced, and there was no paint at the bottom of its door where obviously the shower had soaked it over many months/years. Just looked past its sell by date.
We were only staying 2 nights & when we told the receptionist all the points we were told the manager would see us on check out, but no mention was made when we settled the account so we left a list & our email address & had hoped he would contact us but 4 days later no contact has yet been made.
Breakfast was OK but it was fairly quiet could imagine it would not cope well if busy, especially as only one coffee/tea machine. Plus take an umbrella to breakfast if its raining as it is across from the main hotel & there is insufficient covering to stop you from getting very wet when it is pouring as it was on our first morning.
Plus points, in a good location & reception staff were pleasant.

Nice is a wonderful place to visit and this hotel is a central base to allow you to explore, only minutes walk from shops, restaurants and the beach. Most (unfortunately not all) staff were very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are very spacious for European standards, however are a little under decorated considering their size. The odd placement of a bar fridge in the middle of the room, takes away a little from the charm. The 2 single beds are pushed together to make a double, which although not unusual, was very obviously felt with a large divot in the middle. This added with the very hard mattress and paper thin pillows and a noisy air conditioner made sleep very difficult (as did a false fire alarm at 7am). The staff did assit with extra pillows which helped. Daily housekeeping is offered, however each day we found something would be missing, towels one day, top up of coffee supplies (which is only instant coffee) on another. Things that are easily fixed with a call to reception who were happy to help, but still…
Breakfast, at a small additional cost, was great with a good selection. Machine coffee and croissant‘s are also available complimentary in the reception, which is a lovely touch. Overall some really lovely touches but missing elsewhere too. We will most probably look for an alternate next time we visit.

My wife and I stayed for a five day break. Our first time to stay in Nice. The hotel is well located and the staff made our stay a pleasant one. We chose the hotel as we wanted to stay somewhere with typical french character. The buffet breakfast was well organised and staff kept the small dining area tidy with food regularly replenished. The only comment we left was that it would be nice if the TV had a few english channels including a movie one. Overall a nice hotel.

Hotel le Grimaldi has been a pleasure to stay at during our time in Nice! The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from the beach, the old part of the city (vieux Nice) and also from shopping centers like Nice etoile and Galleries Lafayette. But the hotel is situated in a quiet and nice street away from the noise, but with a few shops and restaurants nearby. In fact, 2 Michelin restaurants are right next door.

The hotel is clean and quiet, staff friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful view over a little church next door. Rooms were spacious and I love the Classic interior with old-fashioned French furniture! Bathrooms were fine and I love that there were shelves and cupboards to place my stuff there. Beds were comfy.

Did not try the breakfast as kids slept too long. There is a water dispenser with Still and sparkling water for guests to use any time in the reseption, perfect in the heat. Can really recommend staying here!

We chose this hotel because of it's reasonable price being within such close walking distance of everything we were going to want to see on our short stay in Nice. I had made a note that we were going to be on our honeymoon, which a couple of the other hotels we had already stayed at wished us a congratulations but nothing else. Le Grimaldi went above and beyond and upgraded our room as well as spread rose petals on the bed and made kissing swans out of towels! It was such a sweet gesture and we honestly couldn't have appreciated it more! The staff was very welcoming and offered us water seeing that we were very parched after making our way from the train station on a rather warm day (at least for us coming from 40 degree weather at home).
The location was just as good as we had hoped that it would be! It was super convenient to restaurants, the water, and Old Town, so we were able to see everything we wanted to without having to walk our legs off. The staff was great with recommendations when we got into town for lunch options too!
All of this really helped us to enjoy Nice that much more and we definitely want to come back!!!

Ideal location for train station, beach and old town. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our superior bedroom was a good size and I loved the modern decor. It had picture windows with a juliette balcony. Nothing to fault!
However, the bathroom was small and dated. It needed modernising to the same standard as the bedroom. There was a tiny bath with a shower above it. As the bath / shower was boxed in, it was really hard getting in and out of the bath and didn't feel safe. Shower gel provided but no shampoo or shower cap.
The breakfast buffet was €12 and good value with a wide selection of food including hot dishes.
From the photos, I though the bar and seating area were separate from reception, but they are the same area. Hence the bar doesn't feel welcoming which is a shame and I didn't see anyone use it during our stay. There is a small outside courtyard with tables and chairs.
The hotel booked us a car to the airport - large Mercedes for €35 which is cheaper than a taxi.
Next to the hotel are 3 Michelin recommended restaurants which is a nice bonus!
If the bathroom had been the same standard at the bedroom, I would have rated the hotel 5* (I rate the bathroom 2*).

Yes, it is a very safe area - and quite close to shopping and restaurants, and definitely walking distance to the beach. Bonus: one of the best restaurants we ate in while in Nice is right next door! Don't be afraid to use the buses, either. You can take a city bus to Cap Ferrat to visit the Effrusi de Rothschild estate - well worth it! The gals that work the front desk are very helpful, too, so they can direct you, as well.
