Firstly, the location of this hotel is unbeatable: plum on the Promenade Des Anglais with all the hustle and bustle of the main areas of Nice within a stone's throw and the beach directly opposite over the road. Even though the promenade was constantly busy, as soon as the double doors were closed, we could hear no street noise at all.

Next, the staff - very helpful and efficient.

The rooms: we paid for a seafront room with a balcony and were so glad we did; it was worth every extra penny, so definitely upgrade if you can. Our spotless room was pleasantly decorated, spacious and had a modern feel with good quality bed linen, soft pillows and a comfy mattress. The bathroom had a rainfall shower which was very powerful. The air conditioning worked brilliantly to cool us down on super hot days and the fridge swiftly cooled our drinks. The toiletries supplied were of decent quality and smelt lovely of honey. It was also great to have a coffee machine and kettle, plus, the complimentary cold drinks were restocked every day. Having a huge TV and reliable free wifi was a welcome bonus too.

Facilities: the hotel has a small bar, which although we didn't use apart from to get ice, is good to know. There is also a small range of drinks and snacks available to buy in reception. We didn't have breakfast, so can't comment, but there is a gorgeous bakery nearby (left out the hotel, then instant left) to buy your morning pastries. It's worth noting that there is not a supermarket close by (nearest one is about a ten minute walk away), so factor that in for carrying your supplies, etc.

Slight niggles: the paper cups and glasses in the room - these felt a bit cheap and budget. And, when the air conditioning was on low, there was an intermittent loud mechanical noise (a bit like when your next door neighbour drills) which disturbed us on the first night, but we got used to thereafter.

All in all, I would not hesitate to highly recommend this hotel.

Originally booked two rooms at this hotel for travel in 2020 as an overnight stay ahead of the airport. That got cancelled due to Covid and I got a voucher.

Wife and I finally got back to the Cote d'Azur this summer for three weeks and we needed to use that Covid voucher so used it for two nights for a room with a balcony in July.

The room we had on the corner of the first floor provided one of the best views in the Cote d'Azur, overlooking the Promenade des Anglais, and if you know Nice well and know where you're going (and we do) it's also the perfect location for the restaurants of the old town and flower market. The part of the Promenade des Anglais it's located on has recently undergone a massive reduction in traffic so we were able to enjoy the balcony and view with a bottle of Cotes de Provence each evening.

We've stayed at similar locations in Nice, the Radisson Blu (too far out, very noisy on the balcony as it's on the busiest part of the Promenade and the choppiest part of the sea), the Beau Rivage (poor service, never ready for you to check in at 3) and the Suisse (great views, poor service) and we were expecting much less of the Mercure but the balcony, view and our large recently refurbished room made it ideal and we will return.

Room Tip: Get a sea facing balcony. There are I think only three such rooms.

The location of this hotel is excellent – on the seafront, right next to the flower market and the old town. The receptionists we encountered were all helpful, friendly and had such lovely smiles. There were two small breakfast rooms downstairs and the breakfast offered was of good quality, plentiful with a good variety which was constantly replenished. There are many good restaurants in the market and the old town. We tried one of the restaurants which was recommended on the hotel information board – Le Frog – which was just around the corner, very French and absolutely excellent.
The hotel doesn’t have a lift but, with the aid of the handrail, I managed the stairs. We were given Room 19 next to the Reception area which we would recommend for anyone with walking difficulties who is able to manage some stairs. We had a sea view, the room was large and the bathroom had a walk in shower. The hotel is a little tired in places but that wasn’t a problem.

I opted for the "Privilege Room" which was slightly bigger, and I'm so happy that I did. I was really hoping that I'd end up with one of the rooms facing the sea, but that didn't happen. Either way, I was really happy with my room, I think I ended up with the largest room on level 1 and it was more space than I needed but felt great.
I saw some of the other rooms mentioning street noise being an issue and to be honest, I had no issue with this at all and I'm usually very sensitive to that. The windows are soundproof so as long as you don't have them open it's fine. Even when I did have them open I didn't find it to be overly loud. I never did the breakfast, it didn't seem that appealing and there's a cafe right behind the hotel anyway.

I did have an issue getting into the hotel late at night one night, the concierge wasn't there and it was really annoying to have to wait for them to come back to be let inside.

I liked this location because you can just hang on the beach while you're figuring out what you want to do for the day.

Only stayed for one night. Great large room and bathroom. No sae view, but a view out to the busy interesting street behind hotel which is near flower market. Soundproof when window closed. At night - electric shutters closed and curtains drawn, no sound or light.
Free drinks voucher upon arrival. Very good generous breakfast next morning.
Very well located for old town, main beach promenade, restaurants, bars and shops.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Only issue... strangely they do not provide bath towels, but say you should use your bathrobes after your shower for drying yourself! First time for me!
However, I recommend a stay here.

Disastrous! Avoid this hotel by any means. The hotel pretends to welcome dog owners. But having come with our dog, we discovered that the room was in the form of a mezzanine with extremely steep and narrow staircase leading to it. The dog could just fall from the stairs and break his legs (our dog wasn't able to climb and was afraid of even attempting it). Moreover, the dog could even fall straight from the bed upside the mezzanine (ca. 3 meters of hight) at night. Having requested a change of room (even for a smaller and cheaper one, but safe for our dog), or for any kind of assistance (like providing some equipment/blocade, etc.), we were treated with extreme rudeness by the personnel. Since it was very late for us to change the hotel, we ultimately decided to sleep on the floor "downstairs" (!) with our dog who always requires closeness to our bed at night.
Such was our experience with this "dog-friendly" hotel. Btw - the same problem could occur for anyone coming with a small child. Avoid this hotel if you don't want your child or pet to die!

The location cannot be beat. The front of the hotel is on the Promenade de Anglais, directly across from the sea. The back is on the pedestrian-only and very lively street that the daily flower and farmer's market is on and is full of restaurants. Our room had a small terrace with two chairs, perfect for watching the passing parade on the pedestrian-only street. Breakfast had good variety of yogurts, breads, eggs, etc. Staff were all very friendly. the hotel provides large beach towels for a small fee. The hotel is large with a huge variety of rooms. Our room was small, with our bed up a spiral staircase in a "mezzanine." My husband couldn't stand up in the "mezzanine." Staircase was unnerving in the dark. Bathroom had good storage. Air conditioning worked well and was a necessary treat in the warm Nice climate. We decided to move to a different hotel for our third night.

I’ve started at Mercure Marche aux fleurs for 1night and I’ve been offered an upgrade with an amazing view on the promenade des anglais and stunning sea view. Check in staff was friendly and professional.
Bed and pillows were super comfy.
I had a issue with housekeeping while checking out and had to complain because the cleaning staff was rude and agressive but immediately the director of the hotel listened my complain and offered me a commercial gesture. I would like to say thank you very much for everything. Excellent stay and I do recommend this hotel to anyone visiting beautiful French Riviera.

I’ve stayed here a few times now. I am in Nice regularly for business and have stayed in all of the mercures.
I have to say as far as location goes this is the best one but please be aware the rooms are not as pictured. They are extremely small, barely enough room to get any floor space to open a large suitcase. The breakfast is definitely not worth the money and service is mediocre, one very pleasant helpful guy who does late nights but that’s it.
If you don’t care about room size and purely location then I would recommend only on this.

A small hotel facing the promenade just next to the Opera. Well equiped rooms, many of them with balconies, but be aware of construction work in the building next door we visited March 2023), so we strongly recommend to pay the additional vist for a sea-view room (!!)
Friendly and helpfull staff, and a rich buffet breakfast

Does this hotel have lounge chairs with umbrellas in the beach?
Answer from terrimead2018

No, there is no specific area for hotel guests. But, right across the street there are a number of places that you can rent chairs at. There's also a public section of the beach across the street and about 100 feet south but the beach is very rocky. I was surprised that so many people just set up beach towels and hung out on the rocks. The front desk staff are incredibly helpful so just ask when you get there about the best place to go.

What is the best way to get from Nice to Sorrento or to Rome?
Answer from Joseph P
San Jose, California389 contributions180 helpful votes
The main question is this a solo, couple, family or group at what time of the year. Today, for mid Nov 2017, web prices for Nice to Rome are 88 USD round trip by air and overnight train (Chair set) 35 Euros one way. I myself prefer to travel by train as it is usually city center to city center, and sometimes has great scenery along the way. Always have a money belt to protect your passports, money, and credit cards.
