Hotel de la Mer worked great for our 3 night trip to Nice. The location is it's selling point; it is minutes from all highstreet and high end shopping, the old town and the beach. The airport is 15 min tram and 10 min walk. It was also good value, compared with some other, more starred hotels.
We stayed in room 8. It has a wonderful balcony looking out over Place Massena. The room itself is huge. The bed was comfortable.
The doors to the balcony, they aren't air tight at all, and their security is questionable. They could be forced open very easily. The room was very loud with noise from the street because they didn't seal very well. We found the air conditioning difficult to use. The bathroom needed work, the sink leaked and the shower door seals were gone so the bathroom was more of an unintended wet room. I would advuse bringing all necessary toiletries, the complimentary ones only include small bar and sachets of soap. There was also no mechanism to lock our door from the inside.
The staff seemed friendly enough, our only real interaction with them was with the sink issues and they seemed attentive, even if it couldn't be immediately fixed. The cleaning was exemplary. We enjoyed our stay, and thought for the price we paid it was worth it. Could use a small but of improvement nonetheless.

Have to say this was one of the safest hotels i have felt safe in during a city break and had no worries at all.
The hotel is actually on the first floor and after about 6pm you need a code to get into the main door to the building then to actually get into reception and the hotel floor you then need another code and all rooms have their own actual key so very safe.
The hotel is located next to a easyjet baggage shop and Nice fc shop and is in the main square in Nice about a 2-5 minute walk form the promenade and beach and loads of bars and restaurants so fantastic location too.
The wifi is good and we had room 6 which was not the largest i have been in but the decor was simple but nice and it was spotless and big enough for us and ideal for a city break and the bed was comfy.
The view from the window was superb and the windows opened up to a view of the Massena square and the water fountain and statue which was lovely.
There was a tv in the room and the bathroom was a okay size with walk in shower which was also very good and again was spotless also the room was cleaned everyday.
Breakfast is served from 8.00am till 10.00am and is not self service you basically get given a basket with a selection of food in it ( bread/croissant/pana chocolate/yoghurt/jam/butter and cheese.
You also get fresh orange tea and coffee and this is located in a small area next to the reception overlooking the main square and there is usually a tv on too.
To get to the hotel from the airport you walk straight out of the terminal and get tram T2 which has a destination of Port Olympia and you can get your ticket from the machine at the station but do not forget to validate your ticket when you get on.
Stay on the tram until Jeam Medecin tram stop in Nice centre which is under ground but when out of the station the hotel is about a 5-10 min walk.
Staff were very helpful and there was usually always someone on reception and there was a contact number for emergencies.
If in Nice i would certainly recommend this hotel as it is in a perfect location for all the transport links in the city and really enjoyed my stay here.

We stayed one night here. It is difficult to see the hotel at first but it is tucked away above the official shop for Nice soccer team.
There is no lift. There was just one flight of stairs so we didn't need it but you should bear it in mind if any of your party have mobility issues.
The rooms were clean and comfortable, air conditioned and very nicely decorated. The bathroom in our room was very small and poky though so it was difficult to get into the shower.
We didn't avail of the breakfast as we preferred to get our own. They very kindly stored our luggage while we did a few last minute things after we checked out.
About the only demerit about the place was the extremely loud disagreement between two staff members who were cleaning out another room at about 8:30 in the morning. It kept going, on and off, until about 9:30 or a little after. I was awake anyway so it didn't bother me much, but one member of our party is very sensitive and such things tend to upset them. No apology was made, even though anyone within a few rooms would have heard what was going on.
Generally, a good find and a good place to stay.

Location, location, location!! This hotel is so well situated, close to beach, in the heart of old Nice, A longer walk or tram to the buses that take you along the coast, very close to restaurants and shops. This hotel offers it all, then add pleasant staff, clean rooms you couldn't ask for more. But, do not expect many amenities other than soap, and small packets of shampoo/body wash, hair dryer and towels, the room was small and pretty bare. My room had a very very firm mattress and pillow.

The breakfast was fine, everyone gets their own basket of croissant, baguette , yogurt, cheese, butter, jam and coffee.
Regardless of the small negatives, I will rebook when I return to Nice.

I stayed at the hotel with my Boyfriend and parents in two rooms, and from the get go we were welcomed with incredible service! I arrived early and was able ti check in ahead of time and also offered to eat breakfast at the lovely taresse in my room, if i wanted.

The rooms were big, modern and clean (the staff cleared the room everyday - with New towels, linnen etc.)

And the placement was perfect! Our room look out over the Big square and fountain, with short distances to vieux Nice and of course shopping as well as restaurants.

Me, and my family HIGHLY recommend this lovely hotel for anyone going to Nice !

This is indeed a charming hotel in a great location, and offers a nice breakfast for an additional fee.

Unfortunately, I can’t recommend it because it has bedbugs. (“Punaises” in French.) We stayed in Room 2 on Thursday night 21 Sept. My husband, who is allergic, received at least 3 dozen bites, which became inflamed and swollen. We found the telltale black spots on the pillow - bedbugs excrete an inky black substance as they are biting you. The young lady desk clerk let us move to Room 6 for Friday night, and we doused ourselves in insect repellent before going to bed. On Saturday morning, as we were leaving, I tried to discreetly explain the problem to the desk clerk, who said he was a member of the owner’s family, so that the hotel could treat the room for bugs. He was insistent that I was wrong and there were no bugs, that it was impossible, etc. I am 100% sure that I am right, and I have the photos to prove it. I did not ask for my money back, I just wanted to make sure that the hotel would fix the problem to spare other guests the misery my husband suffered. I was shocked by the attitude of the clerk, which tells me that the hotel will do nothing about the problem.

Upon arriving home, we had to immediately wash all of our clothes and treat our suitcases with a powerful poison. My bites began to show only the next day, but this is apparently quite common.

When I got home, there was a generic email asking me to “share any feedback you may have about the stay.” I responded by repeating this experience, but I never heard from the hotel.

So my recommendation is don’t stay here unless you want to get bedbugs.

Can be difficult to find, but once there the location is perfect.
Getting to the main fountain in the Old Town is easy. Once there, stand in front of the statue at the fountain. Directly behind the statue is a building with a travel shop at street level. To the left of the travel shop is an ancient doorway with a sign no bigger than an A4 paper beside it “Hotel De La Mer”
The doorway is directly under the only balcony room in the hotel.
Once through the door there is a very old tiled area leading to a concrete / worn stone staircase. Take the stairs and through the glass door labelled “Hotel.”
We arrived before check in time and were allocated the refurbished room with the balcony overlooking the fountain and square..
Bed was reasonably comfortable. Soaps and shampoo was not very effective due to the hardness of the water. Shower head was very high (over 2.1 metres) and the water jet misses the body so some careful and imaginative manipulation and placement of the shower wand is required to have a good shower.
The double glazed doors leading to the balcony totally eliminated the outside noise when closed.
Staff are very friendly. Breakfast only 7 euro was good value for money compared to other hotels.
This Hotel is in the Old City. Lots of eateries to cater for all tastes very close by. The beach is within a couple of minutes walk (two small blocks).
Wifi was free and multiple devices were catered for but on the slow side.
We can highly recommend this hotel for its location, friendliness and service.

We asked for the room with the balcony based on other Trip Advisor comments, and sure enough we got it! It was the best room for us because we could sit outside and just watch everyone hanging out at night. The location of the hotel was great and the hotel was perfect for the one night we were there. The staff was very friendly and we would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay.
