Stayed 2 weeks at Le Royal from late January to mid February. Booked a sea facing comfort room and was given one on third floor (4 and 5th were undergoing renovations at the time). Room was spacious and fairly modern, but later switched to another room on the 1st floor as I had an issue with my window no closing properly. New room given was perfect.

Weather was a bit cooler than usual that time of year and all the common area of the hotel were really cold because many of the heaters were non functional. Everyone had to come down with coats or multiple sweaters to dine or at breakfast.

Food on the other hand is where this hotel is lacking. I was on a half board plan it included breakfast and dinner. Don’t expect full restaurant selection here.my you get 2 choices. Everything seems prepared ahead of time and very little customization is possible. Feels like banquet food where you get what was made and that it. Deserts were equally bad, so don’t got there to have a feast. Breakfast was a bit better but again, the bread is cooked from frozen (rather than delivered fresh from a bakery) and is often hard. Still a decent selection. Place needs to have more than 2 coffee machines or offer to give “thermos” pots at the table for those who just want plain coffee. Also music theme evenings were too loud and really not necessary. Made talking impossible.

Staff and very nice and does everything possible to help.

Plus: Location, size of some of the rooms (size can vary widely even in the same category), large bathrooms
Minus: Food, lack of basic amenities like complimentary bottles of water upon arrival, or tissues in bathroom for regular room types.

We stayed 4 nights in the hotel. The history off the hotel and its first impression made us to decide to go here
Once in the room we got disappointed
Yes we had see view as requested. But the extra bed was not there ( we arrived at 21.00 hrs so they had time enough to arrange it. The were no towels in the bathroom. They arranged this immediately.
The floor ( old carpet) in the room was not clean ( needed really to be vacuumed).
The bathroom was quiet old ( nothing broken, just oldfashioned)
For the higher price off a “ luxery room” we had expected more.
I have seen some hotels in my life, bus this was not ok for this price
It looks as a luxery hotel, but it is no more than a too expensive tourist hotel
We had a good time in Nice, but next time we will look for a better value/ money place

If you are looking for a shiny, ten a penny, chain hotel (perish the thought) then Hotel Le Royal is not for you. However, I loved staying in this landmark building (a former palace) which is incredibly full of character. It may not be modern, but the hotel retains the elegance of France of the past.

Location is excellent on the Promenade des Anglais and makes a very good base for exploring the Côte d'Azur. From the airport, the tram stop Alsace Lorraine is not far away. Staff are friendly, helpful and polite. Rooms are perfectly fine - and clean - with comfortable beds, a TV, bathtub and toiletries all provided. Lifts provide good access to the upper floors and the hotel looks lovely lit up at night.

Breakfast was a little unimaginative, but an adequate continental buffet is available consisting of breads, pastries, yoghurts, cold meats, cheese and juice.

I would definitely stay at Le Royal if in Nice again for a quintessentially French experience.

Fantastic view Great location. But that's where it stops sadly. We stayed here at Le Royal, Nice, for three nights in September 2021. The word Royal in the title of this establishment hides the truth inside this poorly maintained and poorly cleaned building. Paint work is chipped and peeling throughout the foyer, dining room and stair wells. I took a wipe from our hand luggage and lightly wiped two or three square cm of one marble step on the stairs. Filthy would be a fair and accurate description. The bathroom was reasonably up to date and befitting of a three star hotel, but there was no shower gel or shampoo. The view from the double room with small balcony was fabulous but could only be enjoyed while one of us stood and my partner sat. I was also somewhat surprised to find there was no kettle, tea cups, tea and or coffee in the room. The carpets throughout the hotel are old shabby and badly stained. I shall be writing directly to the group "Vacances Bleues." What a shame, the hotel group did not take advantage of the pandemic to spend some euros on some urgently required upgrades. This oh so tired building does not even deserve the description "Old romantic period charm."

Can only comment briefly as total stay at this 'hotel' was 90 minutes. This should give an indication (and a warning) as to what to expect. We can only comment on a city view room but avoid at all costs - foul odour, black mould and damp on the carpet, broken tiles in bathroom, dust on dated furniture and headless pigeon as part of the city view. We booked this room based on the pictures offered on the website but they must have been from a different hotel. For the price of the stay you would expect more. It felt more like a hostel than a hotel. Avoid at all costs. They refused to move us rooms, even after we offered to pay for an upgrade and then told us that there would be no refund for the 90 min stay. No interest from manager as to why we were leaving. We booked in to the Best Western Plus Brice Garden - 4 star hotel 2 min walk away, cheaper than Le Royal and significantly better all round. Giving one star so I can post and perhaps prevent others from staying here.

The location of Le Royal is amazing It is on the Promenade d'Anglais and our room had beautiful sea views. You can walk from the hotel to Old Nice and find delicious French cuisine at many restaurants while sitting outside. Visit the Matisse museum, take a train ride on the Cote d'Azur, enjoy the 1st class service at one of the several Beach Clubs across from the Le Royal. In the Royal Hotel be sure to work Nicolas at the front desk as his service was outstanding!

Please be careful: when I cheked in I was asked to pay for the entire stay although I paid it a while back. When i arrived in the room, I was disappointed. The hotel needs to be renovated for sure: the carpet is old and looks dirty, the furniture looks tired. I could not even contact the reception from my room as the electrical outlet is broken. When I checked out, then again, I was asked to pay for the breakfast although this was added and paid for at check in. They do need to pay attention to those small details, as it does make a difference. Also, the walls are poorly insulated so don't be surprised if at 4 am you hear the TV from your neighbor's room. On the other side, the hotel has a very good location and the "breakfast team" is friendly.
However, i do think the price of the breakfast is not worth what they ask for: 16 e adult and 8 child is well too expensive for what it is.

This was a beautiful hotel of character with large quiet rooms which were spotless, we choose a sea view room & it was stunning to wake up looking directly out on the Côte d'Azur first thing or catch an amazing sunset in the evening. The staff are so friendly, helpful, kind & professional. Hotel a stones throw from the centre of Nice & some lovely restaurants very close by. We loved our stay & definitely will return. Thank you again for a beautiful stay 😁

The shower was mouldy and horrible. The claim of partial refund has been refused by the hotel manager. Even if I have suggested to him to send the pictures of the shower to explain the issue, he did not want to receive them. They have No intention to improve their service quality.

Best bank for your buck. The hotel is a value play. The location is excellent - you will not get a better view for the same price. Get a sea view room - the view you wake up to every morning when you see the amazing blue waters of the Mediterranean will stay in your memory for a lifetime. You will get a good sleep as the beds are comfortable. It's not a luxury hotel, but the prices is right for what you get - a great location, great sleep, amazing view at a great price.

By chance is there good snorkeling from the shore across the street or nearby?
Marseille, France1 contribution1 helpful vote
Hello Teresa, No, the beaches of the Promenade des Anglais are not interesting for snorkeling. We advise you to go to Villefranche-sur-mer/Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat for this (easily accessible by train from Nice. You can also contact specialized agencies who offer snorkeling excusions with boat, several are located on the Port of Nice. Best Regards Il y a 0 secondes
