I stumbled onto this hotel after doing extensive research on where to stay in Nice. It was my first visit to this lovely city by the Mediterranean. I was traveling on my own and looking for a safe and charming small hotel. Les Suites Massena is charming, well located, run by kind and helpful staff and has outstanding rooms. My suite overlooked the Plaza where I was treated to a first hand view of the Carnivale....an exuberant and crazy festival that runs for several weeks. There is a freestanding, beautiful tub in the bedroom, plenty of storage, a desk and chairs, a closet to hang your clothes in with a small fridge for water and drinks and the biggest walk in shower I have ever seen in a hotel. You can have breakfast in your room or in the check in area with other guests. There is a minimal charge for a nice meal which will get you through to lunchtime. You receive a code to enter your room which eliminates the problem of losing a key. There is no elevator and a few steps but the hotel staff will carry your bags to your room if you notify them. I loved everything about Nice and the Suites Massena was the icing on the cake. I stayed for 7 nights and cannot wait to go back. The hospitality, location to the Promenade, shopping areas, outdoor market, restaurants, museums and so much more in unbeatable. For women traveling alone this is a great place to stay. Thank you Les Suites Massena for making my trip so wonderful. I can't wait to return with my family on the next trip.

The room and location are really a 5 star rating. Just a few minutes by foot to the beach and the view on the square and its fontain is suberb. Comfort level is great. Except.. hospitality isn’t. The people working at Suites Massena are really good at playing hide and seek or they just don’t like people. But you’d better make a career move to run a hotel on an desolated island.
Upon arrival the reception said we had to pay for breakfast which we already did in advance and he said that wasn’t the case. BIG TIP; please don’t throw your money away to book a breakfast at this place. It is really not worth your money. We asked if we could get an extra croissant and she said; NO?! The French at their best! In every restaurant or even at each beachclub you could get a much better breakfast for 9,50€. Our window couldn’t be shut completely so the noise of the square echos in the entire room. The reception didn’t really care about it..

The location is very central , Our room was quite spacious and super clean, though it lacked luggage racks. Be aware that reception is up one flight and the rooms higher up; there is no elevator; when we arrived the lady at reception was unwilling to help us with our luggage. We are in our 80s, so I ended up going to a store next-door and paying one of the clerks there to take up our luggage!( he graciously refused payment at first but I insisted). Also my CPAP machine did not function properly there, something to do with the wiring (it worked fine everyplace else we stayed in France). When we departed there was someone new at the front desk …. a very helpful gentleman who called us a cab and took our luggage down . Wish he
had been there the first day!
Breakfast was not included in our stay so can’t comment on that.

Let’s start off with the positives. The location of these apartments are excellent, close to the Old Town with it’s many restaurants and bars, and also about a 2min walk to the promenade.
We arrived at these apartments at around 9pm and quickly found out there was no lifts, so climbed 2 flights of stairs to the reception. A guy was there and showed us to our room on the 3rd floor (another 4 flights of stairs) and gave us our room code. The room was modern and clean and what we wanted to do was put our valuables in the room safe and go out to get something to eat. It was a combination safe and usually, you enter 4 numbers and press the # key. But this didn’t work for us, we tried a number of times but nothing. We looked around for instructions nearby but couldn’t find anything. So I went back down the stairs to reception to ask the guy there how to operate the safe. He said he would come up the next morning at 10.00am to show us. I told him we were planning going out now and we didn’t want to carry around all our valuables (camera, tablets, passports etc) and I also mentioned, we’d booked a train in advance to Monaco for the morning, so wouldn’t be there at 10.00am. His response was to shrug his shoulders, in a manner that seemed to indicate “tough”. I thought….great first impression to give off to your customers.
Also in the room was a coffee maker and a complimentary small bottle of water. No instructions for the coffee maker either but I quickly worked this one out (put coffee pod in, press full cup). What I didn’t expect, is for the coffee pods and water not to be replenished when used. We used the 4 pods left in the room within 24hr of our 4 night stay. We can get our own water but who goes out to buy coffee pods?
Those stairs really start to get to you by the 3rd day, we came back after 8hrs of walking around only to get up to our room to find the code we were using to get into our room wasn’t working.
So I goes down to the reception (same guy) and tell him we can’t get into our room. He says “oh yes I changed the code, here’s the new one”. I’m ready to drop and need to come down 4 flights of stairs and then go back up them because he decided he wanted to change the code.

The place is in an ideal location but the staff have no consideration or respect for it’s guests.
Most importantly, if you have any mobility issues, this place is definitely not for you.

Stayed for 3 nights at the Suites Massena, having previously stayed at the De la Mer downstairs. The suite (number 6) was very spacious, modern and clean. Amazing view overlooking Place Massena. Comfortable bed. Had breakfast delivered to our room at a time allocated by us (inc. croissants, bread, jams and spreads, yoghurts, cheese, coffee, tea). Friendly reception staff.

One minor suggestion for the room would be a full length mirror.

We will definitely be back on our next trip to Nice!

Such a stylish apartment. Clean, and smelling beautiful when you walk in.
It's really stunning. The bath in the room is a special touch, but everything about the space is beautiful.
It's in a great location, overlooking La Place Massena and just a short walk to the beach.
Perfect for a break. We loved it.

Our suite was very modern and creatively decorated. The bath tub and shower were in the main living space, not in a separate room. The room was very large and overlooked the square and fountain where we could look out each morning and evening and enjoy watching the people passing by. The windows were very soundproof. We didn't hear any noise at night, but would have appreciated some black out curtains. The curtains in our room were lovely, but did not block the light. The breakfast delivered to our room each morning was delightful--a basket of breads, yogurt, juice and coffee. We were able to request delivery time and they were always right on time. We were not given any instructions on where to park and so we found a nearby parking lot and were a little disappointed that they didn't have any type of agreement to reduce the parking rate. Check in was at the Hotel de le mer and that was explained in our confirmation but it also said we would get a code to our suite e-mailed to us and we never did. The young lady at the desk was helpful, even when we had a hard time renting bikes, she offered to assist us, as we don't speak French. The location is great--close to the sea and also to the city. They don't have a lift so we were glad we had packed pretty light to go up two flights of stairs. We felt safe and comfortable but it is a little unusual that there is no one on sight at night, at least not that we were aware of. We might stay here again if we were in the area due to the convenience of the location.

We had stayed the last 3 times in Nice at another hotel that shares the same owners. On this trip we decided to switch it up and try Les Suites Massena. The only problem was that we were only staying one day..

The room we got was large, well placed and had a wonderful ensuite bathroom. We were able to walk from the hotel to our favorite restaurants and easy access to the bus system to get to the Chagall museum. They were very gracious to allow us to store our bags for most of the day. The only warning is that the room was on the 3rd floor with no elevator. Not a problem for us but may be for others.

Great location! Room is large and could easily get to Old Town and Place Massena or jump on the tram to head to other locations in the city. We were surprised at how quiet the room was with the windows closed.

May not look like much from the street or when you reach the front desk on the second floor, but the rooms are new modern funky layouts with great minimalist decor, and most importantly the location is super duper. No elevator but we over looked that because of all of the other benefits ... the lesson here is you are likely not your ideal body weight and probably could benefit from some more exercise after all the food and drink you will consume here in Nice so walking a few stairs will most likely be good for you, and don’t bring so much luggage ... statistically the average traveller uses half of what they bring. Just be happy you’re healthy enough to manage a couple flights of stairs, and it’s a walking city anyway ... the absence of an elevator at Les Suites Messena is truly a first world problem when located in the centre of this beautiful city ; )
