The Welcome Hotel sits like a yacht moored in the charming fishing village of Villefranche-Sur-Mer, surrounded by dappled Mediterranean blues. Its exceptional setting has always attracted travellers, artists and poets. Built as a convent in the 17th century, it was converted into a hotel 200 years ago. Of course, the facilities and comfort of a modern 4-star hotel are provided: 24/7 reception, concierge service, bar, sauna, free wi-fi access and much more... All of the rooms have breath-taking views from their balcony, overlooking the picturesque bay and guests are steps away from the beach, restaurants and shopping. The Welcome Hotel benefits from being in a tranquility of the Medieval old town, yet is right in the heart of the dynamic Côte d'Azur, between Nice and Monaco.

My wife and I stayed at the Welcome Hotel for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. Our room was on the top floor with a terrific balcony and view of the bay.

This was our first stop on our European trip and the extremely comfortable beds helped us get over jet lag. The location can't be beat. You walk out the front door and are at the start of the bay.

I enjoyed a run along the water each morning. Several small beaches were a short walk away from the hotel.

The staff was terrific and the breakfast service was great. There was a good variety of foods offered.

We'd gladly return in the future!

Right on the waterfront this is the best place to stay in Villefranche-sur-Mer. All rooms have a balcony with sea view, and the hotel is decorated with a nautical theme. Jean Cocteau stayed here while painting the nearby chapel, as did many other famous people, but the hotel is unpretentious and has a relaxed air about it. We were lucky enough to be on the 5th and top floor in room 503, and had a fantastic view of the sea and the activity below. The room was small but very comfortable and with nice design touches to give a slight sense of being in a nautical cabin. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, which was a shame but you can order from the bar downstairs though prices are steep. Parking too carries a hefty charge of 45 euros a night so I’d recommend checking out other options at the citadel if you can. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. All in all, we had a great 4 night stay here and would love to go back again soon.

Dear Sir, Thank you for your feed back about your stay at Welcome Hotel. As you noticed, our lobby has a wooden décor inspired by nautical universe and all our rooms have a balcony with sea view. Jean Cocteau actually spent a few years at Welcome Hotel during the 1920’s and realized later (after the WW2) the amazing frescas of the Chapel Saint-Pierre (St Peter). You occupied a Comfort room which is ideal for a short break. Please note that we also have Superior and Deluxe rooms, much bigger (and as well with a balcony with sea view). Tea and coffee facilities automatically come with our Deluxe rooms and Suites but we are happy to provide some on request in other categories. Next time you are coming by car, we will show you where the local police office is to get the parking subscription (25 € a week) so you can park your car in the Citadelle (at 300 yards from the hotel) for a lower rate. Looking forward to seeing you again ! Julien B

My daughter and I have just returned from a European Summer holiday and we were so pleased to have been recommended the Welcome Hotel by a friend who stayed there last year. The location is superb on the waterfront and within close access to everything this beautiful little coastal town offers, restaurants, the beach, shops, etc.

We were absolutely delighted by our room on the first floor which had recently been renovated and redecorated with beautifully chic soft furnishings. The room opened out to a substantial balcony with table and chairs and day sofa. An automatic awning was perfect for the sun movements throughout the day. Coming to Villefranche-sur-mer was like a breath of fresh air compared to having just been in crowded Nice. It really is such a pretty village and staying at the Welcome Hotel just made it complete.

The staff were so lovely, helpful and professional in everyway and the buffet breakfast was perfection. The fresh flowers on the table, the beautiful tassel on the key ring, all the little details that just made this stay so perfect.

Highly recommend!!

While the location of the hotel is perfect, the service is what lets this hotel down. The concierge (older male who wears a suit) and general service from the front desk is completely inadequate. On one occasion, I called the front desk to ask if they could arrange a taxi to pick me and my partner up from Plage de Passable as we could not find a taxi or Uber to get back to the hotel. The employee on the front desk (younger male) told me they could not help and that I would need to ask someone at the beach. In all of my years travelling through Europe, I have never encountered such poor service from a hotel employee. On another occasion, I asked the concierge if there was any JetSki tours in the area. He told me there wasn’t (even though I knew there was). I had to ask him to call a specific water sports company that I knew in the area to check that was definitely the case. After he got off the phone with the company he told me they didn’t do tours only guided jet skiing in the bay. I asked him to book the JetSki (as I knew what he was talking about was the tour - it was on their website) and to arrange a taxi to drop me at the location the next morning, which he said he would do. The next morning (knowing the concierge wouldn’t have booked the taxi) I called ahead to ensure the taxi was booked for that day. He assured me it was. After waiting 45 minutes for the taxi to arrive, I had to ask the concierge to call the Watersports company to let them know we would be late for the tour. It was only after waiting an hour for the taxi to arrive that the concierge begrudgingly offered an apology. We ended up being over 30 minutes late for the JetSki tour and we delayed the whole JetSki tour group who had to wait for us. Following this, the concierge did nothing even though he knew we were not happy (no further apology or acknowledgment of his stuff up). It should also be noted that the taxi driver that this hotel uses is a complete rip off. Each time we used this service the driver charged us 5 euro extra to pay by card (even though no other taxi service we used during our stay did this). He was also always on the phone while driving and even asked us for directions even though we are not from France. In conclusion, the service at this hotel is truly subpar and definitely the worst I have ever experienced at a hotel. Unfortunately it completely spoiled the experience for us. We won’t be staying here again when travelling in the south of France and wouldn’t recommend it to other travellers. If you are considering staying here, you’d be much better off getting an Airbnb on the promenade with a similar view.

Stayed 3 nights in early November. Hotel was not near full. Perfect location on the waterfront in Villefranche with views of the bay and Cap Ferrat. I had a high room )4th floor) and it was good size for France.

Positives/Upsides:
Clean, well maintained room and throughout hotel
Best location in town and easy walking distance to beach and old town.
Very helpful and attentive staff. Since the hotel was not full the front desk staff knew us and gave us our room keys without asking.
Excellent waterfront breakfast buffet. Good selection of hot dishes, gluten free options and fresh breads and pastries.
Hotel faces east and sunrises from your room are the best.

Not So Positives/Downsides:
There is no parking onsite. The nearest public lot is about 100m away and serves the entire waterfront area. During peak season I could see this lot getting full and having to drive a ways to find another lot in town. Not a negative per se but something to be aware of if you have a car.
Nightlife and traffic noise may be an issue during peak season.. The windows are double pane and solid so I didn't have a problem but a weekend night during July may be different.
Since the rooms face east they do warm up early with the sun shining in. Adjust the a/c temperature before bed.
Like may hotel throughout Europe the elevator is very small so take the stairs if possible.

Recommendation:
I highly recommend this hotel. I'm not sure what it's like during peak season but off season it was great.
I suggest getting a high room if possible. this will do two things; improve the view ad reduce the road/nightlife noise.

Just as wonderful as when we visited six years ago - actually probably better since there had been some renovation to the bathrooms in particular. Yes, the rooms are on the small side, but very comfortable, with plenty of storage space and there is something very special about sitting on the balcony staring out at the harbour front towards Cap Ferrat. Even just a night there makes you feel relaxed and happy.
The staff are very 'correct' and have been exceptionally well trained - what a treat in this day. Only very tiny downside, which was absolutely no fault of the hotel, was that on Saturday nights the noise from the roof top bar over the road does carry somewhat.
We will definitely return sooner than six years - but perhaps not at a weekend!

I did not stay at this hotel but did spent quite some time there enjoying their buffet breakfast/brunch. At 22 euros a person, the breakfast spread was not exceptional but offered enough variety and nutritional value to make me feel nourished. The covered patio gave guests an exceptional view while partial escape from the sun. The seating was comfortable. I appreciated that they let me stay there longer than usual to do work in a nice environment. Oh I love the music they played while I was there. Whoever picked the playlist that day, good on you! :) I enjoyed their friendly staff as well. If you are visiting Villefranche, I recommend that you make a stop there to enjoy the vibe even if you don't stay there!
P.S. It's a wine bar so after brunch time, don't expect to eat a proper meal there. They do give you bread sticks and chips if you drink there, though.

Welcome Hotel is steeped in the history and culture of Villefranche sur Mer, a quaint, but not so quiet, seaside village nestled between the luxury of Nice and Cap Ferrat. We came here to relax for a few days before heading home after a "busy" vacation in other parts of France, Paris and Saint Remy de Provence. It was relaxing as long as one stayed close to Villefranche and avoided the crowds and frantic pace of the most popular places on the Riviera. The area on the waterfront abounded with sidewalk restaurants facing the small harbor. The hotel staff were among the friendliest and most helpful I have ever encountered. Our room was comfortable and, like all the rooms in the hotel, had a beautiful view of the harbor.

Thank you to the entire staff at Welcome Hotel for making our stay so comfortable. Prior to our arrival, during our stay, and during our departure, the staff set this hotel apart with their warm welcome, helpful recommendations, and going above and beyond for things like making reservations and calling taxis for us. Our room had an extra large balcony overlooking the sea. The room itself was spacious with a large modern bathroom. The walking proximity to the entire town and surrounding areas is absolutely perfect. Everything in Villefranche is charming and Welcome Hotel represents a wonderful value to experience all that it has to offer without sacrificing on modern comforts. We will certainly be back! Merci!

The Welcome Hotel in Villefranche Sur Mer was recommended to us by a friend who lives in the area. We put a substantial deposit down expecting to stay a few days to explore the area. Reality did not meet our expectations.

The water front hotel is a typical 1970’s style inside and out. That style can be charming, but the Welcome Hotel is an old, run down hotel that probably hasn’t been updated since the 70’s.
Our room was tired, the floor of the bathroom had black mold in the corners, and there were dirty fingerprints on the bathroom door. The carpet and drapes felt like they hadn’t been cleaned in years. We spent the night sleeping on top of the bed in our clothes.

We had a small sea view balcony that overlooked the water, as well as piles of garbage from the boats.

Even though it was very warm outside, the hotel would not turn on the a/c. They suggested we open the windows. There is an outside restaurant/bar on the first floor with many smokers and live music. Our windows were directly above it. When we complained about the smoke and the noise, they brought us a fan.

We left after one night. We lost our deposit but we didn’t care. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

The only positive was the manager and desk people were very nice.

Response from Welcome Hotel Managers, Service clients/Réception at Welcome Hotel
Responded 1 week ago

We had a corner room facing the south and west. The western side contained several outdoor restaurants. We were not disturbed by any noise at all. A very quiet, comfortable stay - would go back in a hearbeat.

Answer from Bernard S
Chicago, Illinois72 contributions88 helpful votes
I'm not sure I've ever seen any guests with babies there, and the rooms facing the back may be too noisy for a baby. Still, the staff are wonderful and helpful, and I imagine they would do what they can to facilitate your stay with a baby or young child. The hotel is convenient if you have a car, if that is a related concern. The old town is inconvenient for getting around if you rely on a stroller. You'll have to constantly pick it up as you tour, because Villefranche is very vertical.

Hi. It's open every day in the tourist season at least. I'm not sure about the hours (but it's late), but you could ask them at this adress; contact_at_wine-pier_com (I can not write the "at" sign in this answer, but just exchange "_at_" with it, and insert a dot between "pier" and "com" instead of the "_", and your're on.)
