This is a really good value hotel when compared to the other offerings in the town. It's in an excellent situated with easy access to all locations. The bus to Eze and Monaco is just outside. The rooms are comfortable, are cleaned each day and towels are replaced. The staff are friendly and were very helpful offering advice and guidance. It's on a busy road that is noisy from early morning so if that's going to be an issue, bring earplugs or ask for a rear room. The bathrooms are excellent and the shower is particularly good.

Well what can I say! Just fab! Have just returned here after staying for 5 days with my husband and grown up son!
I picked this hotel purely on the reviews regarding the warmth and hospitality that other T A's had experienced and they were not wrong ! Betty is a really lovely lady in her later years and she runs it with her husband and son Thierry and their truly loyal staff. They are all just amazing people who go to such great lengths to offer help and assistance to their guests.
The hotel stands at a very busy junction on an equally busy main road! You walk through the bar to reach the hotel bit. As others have stated noise was not a problem and our room ( 7) stood facing the road but the rooms are very well insulated from the noise. The rooms are large and clean although they are quite basic, no mod cons and our shower too went a bit haywire. The beds were double sizes and comfortable and there was plenty of storage space but sadly no safe available.Wi-Fi was hit and miss and no TV's in rooms. Linen was past it's best but nevertheless clean!
We ate breakfast in the hotel and for 7 euros enjoyed, coffee, tea or whatever, freshly squeezed orange juice and croissants or freshly baked French sticks straight from the Patisserie across the road. All very tasty and seconds were available! Very kindly Thierry gave us breakfast on the house on our last morning.
There is no car parking at the hotel but a public car park just across the road. car parking limited to 3 hours ( 1 euro 10 cents an hour) at a time and free 19.00 - 09.00 and weekends. A Sat-Nav is vital if you plan to rentacar as otherwise finding the hotel could be a problem.
Villefranche-sur-Mer is a pretty village but there is little to do there other than sunbathe, eat and sleep however there is a very good train and bus service to lots of nearby and further a field places.
There is an abundance of restaurants to suit all budgets and plenty of bars. We found all the staff in restaurants charming and helpful and best of all the service charge is included in bills so no worries on tipping!
The only real drawer back is the hotel sits high up from the main town area and no matter how hard you may look the journey into the main part of the town where the restaurants and bars are involves climbing some fairly steep hills or equally steep steps. That is fine if you are athletic and fit but we did find it a bit hard going at times.
However apart from that would we stay again, most definitely. Pay a thousand euros more for your stay if you want plush accommodation however I very much doubt you will get the same welcome anywhere like we received.
Please get in touch if you have any questions!

Just spent a delightful 3 nights at this bijoux hotel. It’s basically a sports bar with bedrooms but that’s the least you can say. The most and best is that it’s truly unpretentious, fabulously welcoming, spotlessly clean, comfy and well appointed at affordable prices in an otherwise expensive spot. Ok it’s not on the sea front and it’s a bit noisy being on the main road but it’s a short walk down through the mesmerising old town (feels like a cross between Carcasonne and Sorento) to the various restaurants and watering holes and it has very good double glazing to keep out the traffic noises. It’s family run and Monsieur and Madam are friendly, attentive but totally relaxed hosts - we loved them both! We went for the Historic Grand Prix in Monaco and being 10 minutes from Nice and another 35 to Monaco (or considerably less on the trains is they are not on strike) it’s perfectly placed to be near the action but not stifled by Monaco’s overbearing monied atmosphere. It you want luxury, this is not for you but if you want a few days in a very special town feeling like you are a top class guests, go! We’re definitely going back for the next historic GP in 2 years. Might see you there? Xxxx

I've just returned from a really fantastic holiday, staying In La Regence - chez Betty. As a solo traveller I often wonder if I made a good choice? My instinct on this occasion was perfect. I have visited Villefranche before so I knew that I liked the area. I judge holidays on the hotel and the staff and people I meet. La Regenge is a family-run hotel, friendly and helpful people nothing too much trouble for them. My room was a double room, which is definitely a plus and it was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I am already planning my next holiday with them! Thank you Betty, Thierry and Alexis

I stayed for 2 nights at the end of September 2011. The host Thierry is fantastic, as is the beautiful Betty. Room was clean and staff were friendly and welcoming. No airconditioner but there was a ceiling fan which was more than enough. Had a good look around all of the accommodation options and this was by far the best option for me.

Melanie.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here whilst in the beautiful town of Villefranch sur Mer. We arrived from the airport using the 98 bus to Promenade de Artes in Nice then connecting on the 81 to right outside Chez Betty , bus cost 6 euros. On arrival we were unsure about the location of hotel being on a main road but this caused no problems as rooms are soundproof. We were greeted by a lovely lady who worked very hard and made us very welcome. We had room number 6 on the second floor and had no problems sleeping. Toiletries are provided. Room was adequate as we were out most of the day. The location of Chez Betty was perfect for visiting this area of France and is a 10 minute walk to station. It is also near restaurants and the prom. Bus to and from aiport right next door to Chez Betty. I would certainly recommend Chez Betty if visiting Villefranche sur Mer and hope to return to this lovely place.

I have visited this area numerous times and have stayed at La Regence every time. It offers an ideal hotel/bar located in Villefranche, a beautiful seaside town sandwiched between Nice and Monaco. With Villefranche you get a location that is on the beach but away from the often stressful city environment of Nice. If you have personal transport like a car or scooter, you can go off for the day and explore the surrounding areas at your leisure, beautiful locations like Èze, Beaulieu, Menton, Monaco, Ste. Agnes, Sospel, etc. Otherwise, transport via bus or train for as little as one Euro can get you where you need to go easily. Alternatively, the town has a large beach and a beautiful waterfront for those who just want some sun.

Can't recommend this place enough for its value, location, and friendly owners. The hotel rooms are clean and sheets/towels changed daily. An ideal location for couples, friends, families, with a great bar downstairs that is essentially the centre of the town for locals to meet and chat. Food is available at a reastaurant next door and a pizzeria two doors over, the prices for both are also cheaper than what you'd pay at the waterfront places, but still delicious nonetheless.

Looking at previous reviews, I can also add that the WiFi was working fine in both in the rooms and in the bar.

Giving this place a 10. Everything that matters is right here ...

A charming town. Extraordinary sea views, historic areas including castle, great restaurants, coastal walks are just 5 minutes walk of the hotel.

Restaurant choices: a treat for foodies.

Experience at the hotel: genuinely welcoming staff, café and bar services are just down stairs, the complimentary town wi-fi performance is excellent here.

Range of shops: the essentials are adjacent to the hotel eg. groceries chemist hairdresser, several supermarkets are within a 5 minute walk.

Transport: plenty of outside car parking, the bus stop is adjacent to the hotel, the train station is 15 minutes walk.

Hi Nicolas, we did not have a car either, and there is certainly no parking on offer at the front of the hotel, as it is right on the main road. However, there are several side streets around the hotel that may suffice. You would need to check this with Thierry, one of the owners of the hotel. And as to how street parking is policed and charged. He may have another option for you too. You can contact Thierry via their website. We had room no 9 at the front corner on the second floor, and had small views of the sea and cap ferrat. The windows are double-glazed and we really only heard the traffic noise, if we had the window open. The bar downstairs was fairly quiet when we were there in Nov 2014, so I doubt that will worry you. We really enjoyed staying high on the hill at La Regence, and enjoyed the ambience in the downstairs bar, where many locals used to call in for a drink or a chat. Thierry and his mother Betty are great hosts and I'd definitely recommend a stay at this hotel, which is very affordable compared to The Welcome Hotel down on the quay. It's also in a great location, being right on the bus route for Nice and Monte Carlo. You won't be sorry you stayed here! Also, venture a few doors down to Le Roxy Cafe, where the owner/chef Gerald & his lovely partner Elisabeth run a good old-fashioned hospitable restaurant. Great prices & delicious home-cooked food. Viva the Monzano Liqueur too!
