La Palmeraie is a lovely B&B located out of the centre of Marseille. It is super close to some sandy beaches on the Mediteranean and the cute shops and stores along the waterfront. The B&B itself is a beautiful oasis with a pool included. My mom and I were upgraded to the studio room which was lovely and has 2.5 floors and a kitchenette. Suzy was nice, informative, and accommodating and provided delicious breakfasts which included: crepes, juice, coffee and tea, cereal, hot chocolate, fresh fruit salad and of course bread and jams. There is also a gym literally located across the street. Or you can take a walk or jog along the beach!

The only thing about this place other than the fact that you have to take a bus to get into town (walking would take a long time!), is that Wifi is not offered. But other than that, we had a great time!

We went here on total chance. It is a Lovely oasis with good location close to the beach, the local hangouts and communications to Marseille centre. We went to Cassis from here with two busses. Took about 2,5h.
The lady who owns the place is absolutely adorable and makes a home made breakfast every morning. We were more than satisfied with this cute place, and we were so thankful to the lady who took care about us. Thank you!

We have had two wonderful weeks at La Palmeraie. A real oasis in Marseille which is perfectly situated for beaches and with easy connections into the city. Suzy Khalifa looked after us perfectly and we cannot recommend this chambre d'hote highly enough. Our room was exceptionally comfortable and beautifully furnished. We hope to return one day!

Better to write it in English. I spent one day on July, 5th 2015. The only thing that this place has to offer is the pool. Unfortunately, you will not be able to use it at lunch, before 10:30 or after 18:30. The host is an old lady who obviously doesn't like at all to do B&B.
She spends her time to complain and explain you what you are not allowed to do at her place.
Lots of rules that totally kill the pleasure to be there. You will not be able to arrive before 16:00 or even 17:00 and if you leave after 11:00, you will be handled like a thief.
The wifi doesn't work, actually she turns it down and even in the studio (one of the 3 rooms) where there is a kitchen, you are not allowed to do your own cooking.
Of course no shampoo in the shower...
Avoid this place if you want to spend a relaxing time.

Response from lapalmeraiemarseille, Propriétaire at La Palmeraie
Responded 11 Jul 2015
Cordialement, Suzy

Suzy was very welcoming when we arrived. She did make us go straight away to the bank machine to pay her on arrival. A first in our 3 week trip in France. We stayed in the Amethyste room, which is not very comfortable for 2 people. The location is a bit of a walk from the beach and not in the best area of town. We saw a man chasing after 2 other men with a gun down the street. Quite shocking for it only being 8 o'clock at night. There is a gym directly across the street which we did use at a cost of 10 euros per visit.(you can negoitiate the price). Breakfast was very good, with fresh crepes.

A pleasant, quiet double room, off a shaded garden with a pool. All very relaxed and felt like a bit of an oasis after a hot day in town. Plenty of lounging space.

The hostess is friendly and attentive. Breakfast was good. You breakfast communally, but it's a big table, so don't be intimidated!

The location is pretty good, though some distance out of central Marseille. It has decent bus connections to the town centre and there's a city bike terminal at the bottom of the hill (don't get caught out in the evening - you may find yourself having to peddle around chasing a free parking space). It's also about 15 minutes walk to the boat into town, and very well placed for buses to the Calanques.

We were in Marseille for a convention my husband was attending at the Parc Chanot. We usually try to find a charming B&B or small boutique hotel when we travel, but need to make sure it is cost-efficient and convenient for his business needs, and for my exploring while he is working. We found La Palmeraie to suit our requirements very well. It is pretty far from the old port center of town in an attractive residential area, about a 10 minutes walk to the beach. The bus stop is only about 5 minutes or less from the B&B. My husband took the bus to the convention center, and I would accompany him there and switch to the underground metro to get to the downtown area. This was not a problem, and took maybe on average 20 minutes (30 minutes tops) to get downtown. The only difficulty is that busses stop running to this area by 9:00pm, and there are not many restaurants in the immediate area. We would walk down to the beach area and eat at the casual restaurants there, or if you were going into town, take the metro to the Parc Charnot stop and find a taxi back for about 9 additional euros. The owner Suzy is very sweet and will try her hardest to meet your needs. Between her limited English and our limited French we understood each other (not to mention Google translate...). Breakfast was very enjoyable. The pool is opened for limited hours, but the one time we wanted to use it when my husband returned after the stated hours, Suzy said that was no problem. The room (Amethyste) itself was very clean, and we thought spacious enough by European standards. There is a small fridge in the room for wine, cheese, water, etc. The wifi worked pretty well. We would certainly stay here again!

Very nice and welcoming place to stay, walking distance to the beaches - but quite distant from city center if that is your destination. If you have a car or bikes, then location is not an issue.

My cousin and I enjoyed six wonderful days at La Palmeraie in April 2011. Suzy is an amazing hostess who makes you feel at home the moment you enter her B&B. La Palmeraie is located at the southeastern (and more beautiful) end of the city, just a short walk away from the beach where also some smaller restaurants are close-by. Our room was tastefully decorated and had even a small fridge inside. Unfortunately it was still a bit too cold to try the pool, but it is for sure great to use in the summer. The breakfast had all one could wish for: home-made jam, fruit salad, fresh baguette, yogurt, cake and - among other things - Suzy's speciality, delicious crepes. Suzy provided us not only with some very helpful maps of the city but anticipated also every other wish we had. If I ever return to Marseille I know already now where to stay.

Entering the gates of the Palmeraie is like walking into an oasis. The property is beautifully maintained and tastefully decorated. Suzy was courtesy and willing helpfulness personified. Nothing was considered too much trouble, from arranging dinner reservations (for a fabulous bouillabaise!) to organising a home delivery of BBQ chicken.
We stayed in the Suite which was spacious, well equipped and quite luxurious. Breakfast was a delight and provided on the terrace overlooking the pool. The location was convenient for us to manage to park our vehicle as well. There was even a fitness centre across the road for those who wish to keep up a routine (not us, however).
La Palmeraie represents excellent value and we would highly recommend it to anyone staying in Marseille. We travelled extensively on this trip and stayed in very upmarket properties and La Palmeraie could hold its own against any of them.
