We spent a wonderful week at the Hotel-Christiania in Val d’Isere. The staff was very accommodating throughout the hotel. The front desk and concierge service were excellent. The hotel has a lovely lounge and dining room. Dinners began with either a delicious soup or a large buffet as a first course. There were many choices attractively displayed. A choice of main courses were creatively presented each evening, followed by an offering of cheeses and a lovely dessert buffet. The breakfast buffet had healthy options such as fruit and granola to eggs, meats and of course croissants! You will be all set for a terrific day on the slopes.
The location is very convenient for skiers, the lifts or bus to other areas were about a minute walk. The ski room had lockers so that it was easy to keep wet ski gear stored it of our rooms.
The rooms are varied. All are very clean and attractive. My room was quite and very comfortable with a view of Mountains, skating area and ski lifts. Housekeeping kept it in perfect condition. There is also a spa for a steam, sauna and swim at the end of the day.
If returning to Val d’Isere I wouldn’t even look at other hotels. The Hotel-Christiania was wonderful.

We had three rooms at the Christiania, for our family group of seven, the week before Christmas. The first thing I must mention is the incredible quality of service. We had many issues with the airline losing luggage, delayed flights and pending train strikes. These problems could have severely distracted from our enjoyment of time together as a family.

The hotel staff were extraordinarily helpful however and took these stresses away. The concierge made countless calls about our lost luggage and booked a car to get our son to the mountain when his train was cancelled. They handled these matters so efficiently that we could all relax, go skiing and enjoy the spa.

The doorman/valet (apologies for forgetting names, this was two months ago now) was equally gracious, friendly, efficient and attentive. He carried bags, brought skis in and out every day, put ski boots in lockers and delivered our shoes so we didn’t get wet socks. He also literally ran in person to make dinner reservations when restaurants didn’t answer their phones. This was truly service at a top tier level.

The bar tender similarly didn’t just deliver glasses to our room when we had a gathering before dinner. He saw we were making cocktails and came back minutes later with sliced fruit, ice, garnish and bar snacks.

The hotel itself is in a perfect location a few steps from the lifts. It delivers a classic alpine feel. The reception and bar area are very stylish with lovely big windows. Rooms have comfortable beds, balconies and beautiful views (at least all of ours did). It is not a new or modern hotel but it has an authentic and charming ambiance.

The swimming pool was a pleasant addition and we all enjoyed the sauna, but it wasn’t our very favourite aprés ski spa. (Gym equipment is in the middle of everything for example.)

The breakfast was hearty and very good. Service at breakfast could be mixed but I suspect there were new staff being trained and it was often quite busy.

Those small details aside, the service at this hotel truly made our holiday. We really couldn’t have been happier with our experience. Thanks to everyone for taking such great care of us all!!

I spent a long time trying to find a hotel that would be suitable for taking our 20 month old. We booked via Scott Dunn who provided a nanny for us and there is a playroom at the hotel with a lady who does crafts etc with the children whilst parents can enjoy the spa/ a drink!

There is a special charm about this hotel and by the end of the week, we felt so sad to leave. The staff are wonderful, they work incredibly hard but always help with a smile and go above and beyond.

The food is outstanding- the desert table is truly something to behold! The concierge are so helpful, on hand to book any restaurants etc. There are always people helping in the boot room, little things like this mean there is an understated luxury about the whole experience.

The location could not be better- 2 min walk to the main lift area and there is a ski hire shop a few doors down where you get 20% off for staying at the Christiania.

I booked two rooms.

One for myself with our two young children and one for my parents. This was over the UK half term holidays. I was in my opinion very expensive at over £5k for a week per room. I was expecting a lot.

I thought the whole place was old and poor quality. I attach photos of poorly finished walls in the room and the main table that is completed covered in chips.

The pool was cold and not really very nice.

The worst part was the breakfast, Very poor selection for breakfast in general and not a nice room to eat in. The most unbelievable part happening when i asked fro fried eggs. I was told that it would be 6 euros for a fried egg. I have never had this in any star hotel i have stay in, especially not in a 5 start hotel. An absolute joke. When i told the manager he shrugged his shoulders and said that they charge as someone has to cook it. Ridiculous.

The only good thing was the concierge team who were helpful with booking ski lessons etc.

Thank you for a lovely stay. The hotel is beautifully run and the staff so attentive, professional and friendly. Dinner is always delicious and the evening starter and pudding buffets, delicious.

However, the WIFI is poor and needs improving. The water in our bathroom was not hot and the plug did not work, so it was not possible to have a bath, even though I had mentioned the problem on my first day, it was not dealt with.

I also think the manicure prices are too high and my "permanent" manicure failed after a day! I complained to reception after spending a lot of money for 3 rooms over 9 nights that a €30 charge for removing shellac on top of a €70 charge for a manicure was too much - but no concession was given, which surprised me.

However, on the whole we love the Christiania and look forward to its renovation and hoping that the charming decor is retained, albeit improved and modernised. Thank you again for looking after us.

This hotel is in a great location very close to the lifts and a stone throw from all the great bars and restaurants in the village. The rooms and public areas and quite traditional and would benefit from a bit of updating, however the 5 star old school customer service is brilliant! The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, they consistently remembered our name and our room number and even carried our skis to the door or returned them to the locker.
The locker facilities are really good and the breakfast was lovely too.
All round a very nice experience, a great location and 5 star service.

This was our 7th time staying in Val d'sere for skiing, but our first in Christiana. Our usual hotel had not been available for our dates. We were on a B&B basis as this resort has so many restaurants.

The friendliness and helpfulness that we were greeted with upon arrival continued our whole stay and was evident in all areas of the hotel. All staff could not have been more helpful and informative. Nothing was too much trouble.

All amenities were great. The bar was lovely and cosy, despite this being a large hotel; the rooms were large, well decorate and bright'; breakfast was great for all (including a vegan and vegetarian; plus my husband likes his porridge! )' and for skiers, the location was perfect - almost at the bottom of the main lifts.

I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Eight of us stayed at the Christiania, from the time we arrived, to our departure was a delight, special thanks to Thomas Chaussin & his team that provided the highest service.

We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Also short walk to the slopes & village restaurants.

Recommend a pint by the fire after a hard days skiing.

#enjoy

From the moment we arrived very late at Hotel Christiania after a horrendous journey we began to relax. The staff are an amazing group of individuals- always smiling, happy to help and genuinely interested in their guests. Our room was very comfortable and was cleaned daily. The food was delicious- so much choice at breakfast and amazing hours d’oeuvres and desserts at dinner. Staff were on hand to help with skis and boots and were excellent in giving information on local walks. The location of the hotel was excellent for the slopes and the village. We did not want to leave.

Very nice old fashioned quality hotel with great and friendly service. Situated at a great location close to the the two main ski lifts that give access to both the Val d’Isere and Tignes ski areas. And it is also close to the city center.
We will be back.
